Rating: Summary: A good mystery Review: Sheriff Joanna Brady is caught up in last minute details of her wedding, when a teenage girl goes missing and an octogenarian is found dead of what looks to be natural causes. This is the hook for Ms. Jance latest book in the serries set in Bisbee, Arizona. There is a thin connection between the two events but enough for the author to weave a credible mystery. I also like the way Joanna Brady is also facing termoil in her personal life and the way the author includes this in the story; Her daughter fears she is losing her mother, Joanna feels she maybe screwing up a great relationship with marriage. Good story, great characters, and a well plotted mystery! I just read an interesting thriller: "A Tourist in the Yucatan" that you might want to check out.
Rating: Summary: Murder and mayhem Review: Sheriff Joanna Brady is preparing for her wedding to Butch Dixon. As usual, though, nothing is simple in the life of this working mother. Two homocides plus a runaway teenager make life difficult for Joanna in the week preceding the ceremony. Added to this are the complications of guests who are arriving, especially Butch's mother who rivals Joanna's own mother when it comes to tactlessness and nosiness. Through it all, Joanna manages to keep her composure, with the help of her soon-to-be groom. This book has all the elements of plot and character which make for a very good read. Jance has hit her stride in this addition to the series and it will be interesting to see how it progresses after Joanna and Butch are married.
Rating: Summary: SORRY JUDITH, YOU DON'T GET MY VOTE! Review: The bottom line: I really didn't like this book. I found the plot and action to be very slow moving and uninteresting. One thing I did like was Sheriff Brady. I thought she was a good solidly created character, but the plot just didn't have that exciting pace that a Hoag, Hooper, Johansen, or Cornwell novel does. Another thing that I didn't particulary care for was the whole eagle thing with the young girl. It kind of a gave off a somewhat ridiculous indian spirit kind of feeling. I also found it kind of unnecessary to have the part about Joanna's neighbor's death and his daughter. Of course if you are a fan of J.A. Jance, then I'm sure you'll like "The Devil's Claw" and these kind of "small town" mysteries. If you enjoy more hard-core suspense and don't like the "country down south" novels, then you won't like "The Devil's Claw.
Rating: Summary: A very pleasant book Review: This book contains three stories involving Joanna Brady, the sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona. First, we have the crime story involving an old murder, a current murder, and a runaway teenager. Second, our hero is getting married, and she must fight crime inbetween wedding preparations. Third, the daughter of her longtime neighbor comes to harass her, providing unwanted distractions from the first two stories. The entire book is a pleasant and easy read. I appreciate the fact that J. A. Jance keeps the language at the PG level - too many modern authors think they must write R rated script in order to sell books.
Rating: Summary: My first J.A. Jance experience Review: This is the first book I read from J.A. Jance, so I'm not very familiar with her work , so I'll try to read more of her later. This book tell us the story of a Joanna Brady, a sheriff from a samll town in Arizona. It tell us the story of a murder , a missing teenager and the fight for a will , everything happens just a week before her wedding takes place. This is an ok book , it has an interesting begining with a good plot , and it is really interesting to read . It would deserve 4 stars , but I didn't like the ending , it was a very good plot and I didn't like the way it finished , but that's just my opinion. Read it , it's a good book , it's just not that great , after reading this , I'm more interested in reading more books of J.A. Jance and more about the Story of Joanna Brady.
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: This whole series is really a joy to read. The author can take Joanna from introspection to inspection of a crime scene in a few pages with very little problem in the transition. Although each book can be read on it's own as a stand alone novel, I have had much satisfication of reading them in order and watching the characters grow and change in each book. This book lives up to the reputation of the author. Joanna is planning her wedding, Butch is really, and chasing the bad guys at the same time. A young girl is missing, her mother, recently out of jail is murdered and the story begins. The characters are believable and the story is tightly woven and thrilling. Well worth reading.
