Summary: No one does action and suspense better than David Morrell.
Review: It's hard to believe that books like "First Blood" (inspiration for Rambo) and "Brotherhood of the Rose" were written twenty years ago or more, with "Brotherhood" written in 1984. It's even harder to believe that David Morrell has kept up the frantic pace of his novels for this many years without slowing down or missing a beat.The main character of THE PROTECTOR is essentially a super-bodyguard in the same mold of the main character of Morrell's best-selling novel ever, THE FIFTH PROFESSION (whose protagonist, Savage, is an 'executive protector'). Like most of Morrell's books, THE PROTECTOR gets off to a fast start and absolutely flies by. As technology has progressed over the years, so has Morrell's writing material, always incorporating the newest trends in electronic gadgets and spy tradecraft into his storylines and his characters. An early twist will securely lock you into the plot, and will keep you from putting the book down for very long. With one action scene after another, this has motion picture written all over it. The years haven't affected David Morrell's writing. He's as good as ever, and THE PROTECTOR is proof positive.

Summary: Thrill ride from start to finish
Review: Morrell again displays his mastery of espionage and action. The Protector is fashioned with realistic characters who know their business and generate dynamic responses based on undefined dangers. Morrell, as always, does his research. From page one through to the end, action moves at a pace rarely found while detail keeps things vivid and exciting. Twists and turns, combined with three dimensional characters makes The Protector difficult to put down. This book is in a league with Morrell's best. Well worth the read.

Summary: Not Bad!
Review: Once again, Mr Morrell has thoroughly entertainmented me. If you're interested in a fast paced novel with lots of action, you'll find it here. Some of the scenarios seemed implausible, but entertaining nonetheless. I found myself saying "no way" several times, but I still couldn't put it down. Overall, an enjoyable read that's good to the last page.

Summary: Protects you from boredom
Review: Originally I gave this book 5 stars, until I realized it is a rewrite of an earlier book of his called "Double Image" where the protaganist is protecting a Feme Fatalle who claims that all her past lovers are trying to kill her, due to no falt of her own.
In the protector, the person being protected is a paranoid Chemist who works with hormones to create excessive, debilitating fear in others. After getting Government agencies to protect him, and agreeing to make him "DISAPPEAR", he then turns on them, and tries to kill them, to protect his new identity.
I'm not going to tell you any more than that, for fear of giving the whole story away. (and I don't want to ruin it for the reader, or the author) Suffice it to say, that while I was not to happy with Double Image, I was thrilled with the Protector. It is a book well worth reading, as it is one of his best. This book really moves along. You will not be disappointed!

Summary: manipulating fear
Review: Recommended ... THE PROTECTOR is all about fear & adrenaline--with a secretly developed hormone spray that devastates veteran warriors & causes havoc wherever it is let loose. Global Protective Services agent Cavanaugh not only has to rescue a paranoid client who turns out to be deadly, he has to locate the antidote to the secret weapon. I've not read a David Morrell before & was transfixed by this author's writing--it is intense, explicit & absolutely fascinating! This author is also ethical about what he will & will not explain.

Review: See book summary above. This is no doubt good escapist fiction. The characters lack depth and the story moves very rapidly. Because of the characters shallowness I found myself not really caring about them. The plot was unique in its look at fear, and along with a few other twists, it still made for a quick and exciting read. Recommended for all Morrell fans.

Summary: Morrell's best book in years!
Review: THE PROTECTOR is a tour de force that ranks right up there with THE FIFTH PROFESSION and THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE ROSE. Cavanaugh is a protector (different from a bodyguard in that Cavanaugh is a highly trained special operations agent). When he's assigned to protect a biochemist, things go wrong. Cavanaugh's team is killed and he's forced to turn to his wife for help as he tries to set things right. Morrell uses plenty of authentic tradecraft and the book rockets along building suspense. If you're not on the edge of your seat turning pages as fast as you can, you don't have a heartbeat. Tight plotting, smart characters, cool action set-pieces. This would make a great movie, but there's no way that Hollywood can match what Morrell brings to the table. On a scale of one to five stars, THE PROTECTOR deserves a six. Don't start this one late at night or you'll be up until the wee hours of the morning and the last satisfying page is turned. Whatever you do, don't miss this one!

Summary: best book ever
Review: this book is awesome, i've read a few other David Morrell books and this is my favorite. People maysay they can predict what happens next but they're lying. They never would have guessed the fear hormone or anything. A great plot and i think should be made into a movie to any of you directors out they which would be none of you. But this has heart pounding action and i could hardly bear putting it down and hoped it would go on forever. YOu some how connect with it realistic action. No exploding cars or usless shooting. A real page turner.
