Rating: Summary: The Dominion Review: This was the best book I have read. I recommend it to everyone! The glimpses of heaven and hell which Alcott describes, are wonderful. After reading these, I was ready to go to heaven immediately. GREAT BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Engaging. Thought Provoking. Fine Literature. Review: Randy Alcorn has succeeded in transferring Biblical knowledge about Christ, heaven, angels, the human condition, etc. into an exciting, fast-paced, page turner. The reader is drawn into the world of Clarence Abernathy, and more importantly, into the unseen world of his departed loved-ones. The descriptions of heaven and what life there might be like are so vivid that they make believers long for the day when they will step across the threshold into the light of the full day. This book is an important study for every believer in that it places a priority on things eternal. It is also excellent for the non-believer in that it helps them understand the hope of our calling and the unseen (but far more real) spiritual world. Regardless, it should be read by all because it is well written, interesting and fine fiction.
Rating: Summary: Currently, I am recommending this book more than any other Review: Alcorn has captured a composite American urban scene, with its pathos; distresses, answers...herein hope is offered only because things seem just a little less complicated after travelling a while with his characters. We are compelled to care for those who live where many would not live, and it is especially helpful that he even helps us see the human side of people who've done some inhumane things.
Rating: Summary: Best Book I have ever read! Review: I love John Grisham and Michael Crichton and I thought nobody could top anything they wrote! Well I was wrong. Dominion was one of the most powerful books I have ever read. The main character Clarence just grows on you. The issues in this book are superb and make you really think. Especially the issue on Racism. This book lets us see the issue in a whole new light. This is a must read for anyone! I hope to see some more excellent novels from Randy Alcorn.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book. A great Sequal to Deadline Review: I read the book and loved it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent. Intriguing word pictures of heaven. Challenging Review: A very well written and believable novel that made me look at myself in ways I never have. Issues such as gangs, drugs, murders, police investigations, racism, politics, heaven, angels, and the Christian's daily walk with Jesus are dealt with in such powerful ways that I felt my eyes were truly opened to what's happening in our country and I was motivated in a very positive way to love one another just as God has made them and not as I think they should be.
Very exciting and difficult to put down until finished.
Rating: Summary: I could not put it down. Review: Dominion is a fast-paced, extremely well-written contemporary novel dealing with serious issues such as racism and gang violence. This book will make you think about several current issues our nation is facing today and give another perspective on them. I couldn't put it down. The characters are well-developed and believable. Like his novel, _Deadline_, Dominion will challenge you as it entertains you
Rating: Summary: White man keepin' the brother down...again. Review: I finished Deadline in three days, which is a fast pace for me, and I loved it. I then rushed out to the library and checked out Dominion, thinking that it would be just as good. It's not. In this modern world of blame everthing on the white man - there is no need to take responsibility for your own actions, I find this tiring! My only solace is that "racism" has been called so often over recent years that it is only taken seriously when it actually exists - as opposed to a few years ago, when if a minority called someone a racist is was taken for granted as being a fact, and if you questioned the label in a particular instance, you were called racist too. The worst part of this book is when the protagonist from Deadline, Jake, has the audacity to apologize for the prepetuation of racism. It reminded me of a few years ago when Martin Sheen apologized to Japan for the us dropping the bomb on them in WW2. Alcorn's writing is fantasitic, and if you want to read something by him read Deadline. Dominion is just too full of white guilt.
Rating: Summary: Why he's one of the best! Review: This book had the heart rate going a few times! Man, Randy Alcorn knows how to keep your attention! He also knows how to lift the spirit, than let us know who is in charge and why.
He takes a friend of journalist, Jake Woods, and gives us that is just as equal to "Deadline"! We join Clarence Abernathy in his search for justice. He teams up with Ollie Chandler, who seems to be a hick. But the two forge an unforgettable friendship, as well as a good team! This book takes you into the heart of racism, then power drives it with a force that can't be stopped. I really liked how Obadiah (Clarence's father) simply talked about the good old days, especially the part about Negro League Baseball. He talks about Hank Aaron along with Cool Papa Bell, and tells about the earth shattering home runs of Josh Gibson. You read baseball books, you know this isn't just made up stuff. We are also given verses of "Amazing Grace" and other tunes that just light up your world, and God's world! To make matters more interesting and more sumptuous, he gives a tempting decription of home cooking, with more than just corn bread and chicken!
Alcorn writes something that probably won't be popular with all audiences, but he doesn't have to worry about that. This was never a skin issue, but a SIN issue, and when it comes down to it, when does it end? What will the body of Christ do about it? More heart pounding illustrations from Randy Alcorn make "Dominion" demanded to be read, today and tomorrow. It is why he is one of the best out there! Well done!
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: I thought dominion was an honest attempt to portary the racial issues that affect today's church and community. I think Alcorn creatively offers a somewhat viable solution to the race problem in light of biblical theology. As an African-American, it still saddens me that some white envangelicals can love the Bible and miss the need for compassion, repentance, and reconciliation in Christ. Alcorn is right in that many Christians did particpate in slavery, Jim Crowism and even racism today. This is sin! However, once again, in the name of being biblical, some evangelicals would rather stick their heads in the sand and claim "sola scriptura" instead of practicing "true Christianity". I applaud Alcorn for raising the racial issues without excusing African-American Christians on their need to forgive (a point I thought he did not soften!). The American church will hang her head in shame before God if she doesn't come face to face with this issue.
