Rating: Summary: Cool idea, but poor execution Review: This book was a let-down. It has a very interesting premise, but the writing does not live up to the promise. Many of the major characters are one-dimensional and totally unsympathetic, to the point that I simply did not care what happened in one of the two major story-lines. Stereo-types are used in place of character development, and verge on the offensive. Logic takes a holiday, as characters miss the obvious and do not possess knowledge that they should. Loose ends abound, with potentially major plot-twists simply evaporating with no residue left behind. And the ending is a poor cop-out, with no feeling of closure given to the reader.Give this one a pass. The one star is for the idea.
Rating: Summary: A good story but a little rushed perhaps? Review: This book starts out brilliantly, a mysterious death linked somehow to an animal research facility in Africa. Forensic pathologist Jack Stapleton begins to investigate - and someone doesn't like it. The story has a lot of suspense and, as always, is medically fascinating without bogging the reader down. However, about two-thirds of the way through the book, the story seems to gain speed, almost leaping to a conclusion that left this ready feeling a little let-down and wondering why it felt as though Mr. Cook has rushed it. Nonetheless, if you're a Robin Cook fan, read the book. If you're thinking of trying a Robin Cook story, try another one (may I suggest "Contagion") because this one may not be the one that hooks you.
Rating: Summary: Come on...where's the ending Review: This book is quite racy though all the medical terminology tends to be confusing.Robin cook has managed to cook an incredibly pacy thriller but like his previous book Toxin the ending was a big let down. The fate of the protagonists is ignored at the end.The ending is done as if to end the novel, thats all. There is no explanation and there is not even a hint that the sequel would be coming.Inspite of the ending this novel is worth reading because all through the 400 odd pages, you won't get bored.
Rating: Summary: Too many loose ends! Review: First of all, the scientific terminology was very difficult, unless you are a docter and since Cook wrote the book for common readers, that was a mistake on his part. Second, the book ended rather abrubtly... and too many loose ends were unsolved. The more Cook writes, the worst his novels are getting. Maybe he should stick to medical practice instead.
Rating: Summary: like wow! Review: I thought this book was extremely good. It was so so good that it got me to buy one of Dr. Cook's other books entitled "Fever". I am only 12 years old, but I enjoy his books. The only negative comment that I have on The book was that all the medical terminology gets very confusing. All in all I thought that this was an exellent book.
Rating: Summary: The Book Review: This book in my mind was very interresting. It kept me hanging on every word. The ending totally shocked me. I even stared to think that I was Kevin Marshal. I think Dr. Cook wrote a great book.
Rating: Summary: So so at best Review: I'll skip my disappointment in the ending. Obviously, I am not alone. I was more disappointed in the lack of character development. I never felt I knew the characters. After reading cover to cover I don't know anything about any of the odd-ball characters.
Rating: Summary: Good story, but ending was a letdown Review: I don't know whether it was a case of a bad abridging job or if the actual novel had the same problem, but after spending several hours listening to this compelling story of genetic manipulation and corporate greed, I was severely let down by the lackluster ending. As I listened, I kept thinking, "The last tape's almost over...they can't possibly wrap it up this fast." But they did, and I was left wanting more. What happened to GenSys? What happened to Jack and Laurie and Kevin and all the rest? What was the fate of the creatures? Was Cook leaving the door open for a sequel? I sincerely hope so, because otherwise this was just bad storytelling. My other complaint about the audio version is the reader, Boyd Gaines. I found his attempts to do different voices annoying--the women all sounded vaguely ditsy, and his "Noo Yawk" accents for the Italian organized crime figures bordered on offensive. I would have preferred a less "dramatic" reading. Chromosome 6 is a good story that raises a lot of interesting issues, but the ending disappoints.
Rating: Summary: Tasty but not filling Review: A decent detective/adventure yarn, but it fails to wrap up/ give resolution to all the characters at the end. The final fate of half the protagonists is ignored at the end, as well as all of the fate of all of the villians. Is there to be a sequel? I think it might better be wrapped up in one extra chapter. Give us a break Doc, where's the rest of the story.
Rating: Summary: What happened to the ending? Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, and was all set for a great ending, but no such luck. The book just stops. It wraps up in about 1 1/2 pages. Very disappointing! What happened to all of the other characters in the story? What happened to the operation in Africa? What happened to our gangsters?
