Rating: Summary: If you suffer from insomnia..... Review: Bearing this book an appealing cover with so many great recommendations from prestigious authors I expected much more for my money Hunter made the effort but could not conceive a story good enough to reflect the compelling recommendations he has achieved to promote his work. Throughout the chapters I could not find smart twist and turns, bogus elements and other subterfuges that can wake up a sleepy reader. To make it worse, I also found a poor employment of language and the ending did not score to make out for the flabby plot.
Rating: Summary: This is the worst one to date Review: I thought this was the worst book written by him yet. Point of impact was a much better book and i would reccomend that one. Black light was boring and had very little action. Read Point of Impact instead.
Rating: Summary: Not good enough, don't be fooled by the hype Review: I really enjoy most of Stephen Hunter's work but something always bugs me when I'm reading him. His characters are flat, his dialogue is sparse and stupid and he always, always uses dumb characters to prove his point. "Black Light" would have been great if the story would have stayed with the invesigation of Sheriff Swagger not the time-jumping story between Bob Lee's vengeance and the Jimmy Pye murder spree. It is a very confusing book which I refused to finsih. If you want good Stephen Hunter read his book of film reviews or "Point Of Impact". Forget the "Bob Lee" trilogy and read Tom Clancy's early stuff instead.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, suspenseful, and a good ride! Review: This is a good read as a stand alone book, but if read after 'Point of Impact' & 'Dirty white Boys', you are guaranteed of a great time. Hunter is a master of building suspense and moving you smoothly towards a climax. Some of his books in the past have seemed to slow down midway but this one keeps you moving all the way. The characters are well established and we see the good and bad in most, which makes for a more authentic feel. If you like Stephen Hunter, you will love this!
Rating: Summary: A book with a very believable atmosphere and good realism Review: My first book of Hunters and a constant page turner. This story was very easy to get into and Swager is a great character. The weapons are very accurate technically speaking, a rare thing in this day and age.
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: Way to go MR. Hunter. This is the best novel I have read in months. Do yourself a favor and get this one!
Rating: Summary: Hunter doesn't the the bull's eye. Review: In BLACK LIGHT, the real second book in the Swagger trilogy (DIRTY WHITE BOYS, although Stephen Hunter claims it is, is not part of the Swagger trilogy- it is only part of the Swagger universe), falls victim to the middle child status, but rightfully so. Like many trilogies, the second installment is often subpar and serves merely as a bridge between the original and exciting high concept opening and sets up an exciting climax for the end of the trilogy. Still, BLACK LIGHT is clever in spots, reading like a good murder mystery, even though the denouement is a bit predictable. It doesn't depend as heavily on firearms as its predecessor, POINT OF IMPACT, and Bob Lee Swagger's character is allowed to naturally develop. He's looser, more prone to joke, but still keeps his trademark irascibility and taciturnity. In BLACK LIGHT, Swagger begins to investigate the circumstances surrounding his father's death 40 years before. He is joined by some Holden Caulfield-type character who almost has no place in the novel. Personally, I feel that this kid, whose father, in DIRTY WHITE BOYS, had killed the son of the man accused of killing Swagger's father, would've been better employed merely as a catalyst to get Swagger in action, then gracefully disappearing. Still, as with TIME TO HUNT (the close of the Swagger trilogy), Hunter switches back and forth in time frames rather adroitly in Tarantino fashion, delineating the chain of events for us. There is one particularly violent gun battle and a heart-stopping sniper's duel toward the end of the book. All in all, a not very satisfying read, but Hunter's talent and professionalism nudges it in the realm of competent novels.

Rating: Summary: finally... Review: spent a lot of time with trashy novels that don't make any sense recently... mary higgins clark, et al... so glad to get back to a book that makes sense with characters that work.the flaws were minor enough to overlook.
Rating: Summary: You will take a day off work for this one Review: Incredible the way Mr. Hunter keeps you moving thru the pages. His technical knowledge of weapons is deep but the reader is never overpowered with techna-speak. Don't start this read unless you either have the next day off from work or are prepared to call in sick!
