Summary: Why Write like This?
Review: I may be too high-brow or too critical, but I kept wondering why anyone would spend time writing this, no less reading it. "In Fidelity" is full of pseudo-wisdom and half-truths, is very busy manipulating the reader--which made me wonder about the writer. Where is the pleasure in recieved ideas and two-dimensional, at best, characters, and with a plot that never soars, but plods. All the seams are showing and yet this book gets much attention. Can someone tell me why? If we want potboilers or sexy one dimensional stories, there are far juicier bad writers.

Summary: Not even good airplane reading
Review: I picked this up in an airport, and it wasn't even as interesting as yesterday's newspaper. Poor writing, contrived plot, and nothing to make it worth your time.

Summary: cross genre page turner
Review: I read MJ's In Fidelity in two glups - thoroughly enjoyed it. Sensual in every sense of the word. Part mystery, part romance, part psychological thriller - it kept me turning pages, something a book hasn't done in a while.

Summary: Compulsively readable
Review: I recommend this novel to anyone who wants to spend a few hours completely absorbed in a great story. I was so captivated by In Fidelity that I read the last 200 pages in my bathtub.

Summary: Good Characters-- Too Much Plot!
Review: I see that most reviewers give this book either one star or five, but I'm going with three and a half. There is a great deal to like about this book-- it is far superior to her first novel, Lip Service-- but Rose still misses the master storyteller level.

I won't recap the plot, there are several reviewers who have done a great job of that. I will say that the relationship between Jordan and her teenager is very well written. The daughter, Lilly, is extremely exasperating; I am gnashing my teeth just thinking about her. The themes of photography and jewelry are also fresh and intriguing. And I enjoyed eavesdropping on the psychoanalysis sessions between Jordan and her patients.

My biggest problem with this novel came 3/4 of the way through when several different threats converge on Jordan's family. It felt like overkill to have a crazed stalker AND a scheming patient AND a malicious attacker. Maybe Rose's next book will get it right.

Summary: Ten stars! Sat up all night reading it
Review: I think what I love so much about this novel is it really has it all: a story that keeps you up half the night reading, characters so real you feel as if you know them (the relationship between the mother and the daughter was remarkable in its insights), and writing that's clear and lyrical. There's so much to love: I loved the daughter's infatuation with all things zen, loved the psychotherapist mother's patients, loved the seamless way the past intruded into the present--and threatened the future. Can't wait to read more of the very talented MJ Rose!

Summary: A page-turning erotic suspense!
Review: I thought that M. J. Rose's first novel, Lip Service, was one of the most clever thriller/erotica novels I have read. It was well developed and had excellent character and story development. Needless to say that her second novel, In Fidelity, is just as, if not more, suspenseful and erotic as her first novel.

Dr. Jordan Sloan's world shatters all over again when her father's murderer is released on parole. The key witness to his murder trial, she fears that he'll seek revenge -- though everyone, including her daughter, seems to think that she is just being paranoid. A psychotherapist, she tries to help her patients' problems while trying to figure the psyche of murderers and coming to terms with her about to be ex-husband's infidelity. Jordan is bound to suffer several more betrayals -- which leads to a spellbounding conclusion.

Suspenseful, erotic and, yes, romantic, In Fidelity should be devoured in one sitting! I highly recommend it!

Summary: Dull & predictable
Review: I was disappointed by this book -- rather dull & predictable. I read some hype about MJ Rose somewhere, so got this, but I can't see what the big deal is. It doesn't even read as well as any ordinary supermarket romance.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Romance, Sensuality & Suspense
Review: In Fidelity by MJ Rose is a great sophomore follow up to Lip Service. Twenty years ago, Jordan saw her father die at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. She made sure he was convicted of that crime. For twenty years Jordan has been trying to adjust to her father's death, while building a family, falling in and out of love and helping her patients face their demons. Meanwhile for twenty years her ex-boyfriend has been dreaming of freedom and reclaiming Jordan.

Jordan's past has come pack to stalk her, during a time when she is trying to re-adjust to her ever maturing daughter, get back together with her husband and help a patient who has become obsessed with her life. In Fidelity is what I would call a good example of suspense romantica. The underlying theme of romance is spiced with erotica and suspense. Strong characterization and plot make this book a page-turner. I can't wait to see what MJ Rose comes up with next.

Summary: Page turner!
Review: In Fidelity is a fun and exciting read. A captivating mix of suspense and sensuality, the book started slowly but picked up amazing speed in the middle. By the end, it had me reading so fast I was almost breathless. The intermingling of psychology, art through jewelry design and photography, and the tests of this family created a world that I did not want to leave.

Luscious and satisfying, this book is a must read. Treat yourself!
