Rating: Summary: Ignore the negative reviews, this book is great!! Review: I rarely read fiction books, but when I started this one, I could not put it down. The other reviews complain because of the acronyms and religious overtones, but for anyone who has been around the military, you know that the military and acronyms are inseparable. It is like a foreign language. As for the religious overtones, it is obvious the main character is a reflection of North. North is both a military and a religious man, so why is anyone surprised that element is in the story? This book is highly recommended, as is The Jericho Sanction.
Rating: Summary: I did not want to read a book about Christainity Review: This was a fantastic military adventure ruined by the inappropriate constant references to evangelical Christianity. I bought this book because I have great respect for Oliver North and was looking forward to the military suspense and great adventure. Unfortunately, I was turned off by the constant religious overtones and hijacking of the plot to perpetuate religious views. I would have rated this book a perfect ten if it stuck to the plot, instead I feel I was duped in to reading a book that would be more appropriate for a Christian Science Bookstore than the Marine Corps Library.
Rating: Summary: Great page-turner Review: WIth a great mix of fact and fiction, Oliver North tells a story that leaves you wondering what is fact and what is fiction. If you love suspense, prepare to not do anything else until you have finished all 600+ pages.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Oliver North Review: This is a must read to anyone who loves freedom and wants to keep our country enjoying this volatile gift. To Oliver North I say thank you for telling the truth of the terrible situation we were in during the "New World Order" years of the Clinton administration. There is a strong suggestion in this "fiction" that while the wide-eyed liberals in power then were talking about diplomatic relations with other countries and singing Kumbaya, our soldiers were being compromised by those associated with the UN who had other ideas in mind, like making money off of the old nuclear materials laying around. Unfortunately, this type of thing must be communicated in a work of fiction, because if North dared to tell the truth in a non-fiction work, the liberals in this country would have him put in prison. We all know, though, that more secrets and for-US-only equipment were 'shared' with UN diplomats, e.g., terrorist harborers and enemies of freedom.Thank you Oliver North. Excellent writing too. A little heavy on the Christian preaching, but we could all use a refresher in good Christian thinking these days, so I didn't mind.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book Review: This book was great. I love all the people who say the christian meessage didn't belong in this book, like there is some written law somewhere that says a man can't write a novel with religious undertone. Oliver is believer and I suspect his writing this book was more to tell the truth of the Gospel and how God can work in people's lives than a political thriller. God Bless you Mr North, you just keep writing them like you want, I'll buy. Besides that it was very eye-opening and thrilling book.
Rating: Summary: patronizing garbage Review: Where do I begin? I began the book with an open mind, hoping I was about to find another author I could depend on for regular material. To my disappointment, the former Iran Contra-insider slash blatant criminal produced a real load of garbage. To begin with, North's writing is stodgy, elementary and dull. His pathetic attempt at constructing engaging characters is predictable as he's a straight-edge, no nonsense career military stiff. The Christian subtext is too blatant to ignore and it has no force anyway. If North had something new or profound to say about why someone should be involved with the church it might pass as acceptable. North then has the audacity to place himself in his own book as a heroic figure and on top of that wastes our time as he tries to clear himself of any wrong-doing. I heard good things about North from a friend (who is a war buff) going in, but I can definitely say that I now loathe North. Finally, at a length of 600 pages you'd think there would be a great deal of detail in there based on reality that could teach you something...there's not. The book's length is a symptom of North's inability to compress bridge material and cut unnecessary sections.
Rating: Summary: Oh Pleeez. Is this a military suspense or religious novel? Review: A very good military suspense novel, but I got very tired of North's Christian recitals, which I felt were beginning to be forced upon me. It seems like the only way the story could end was all the characters -- and I mean almost ALL the characters (who were not killed) had to be born-again Christians, and with their renewed faith in Christ were they able to overcome the enemy. I also felt a little cheated with how the authors ended the story. True to the movie format, you could almost see the ending fade out and the conclusions "rolled" like screen credits, like, "well it's time to end the story, so let's just stop it here like this." This was my first Oliver North novel. Would I read another one? I'll spend more time thumbing through it carefully before plopping down another eight bucks. Semper Fi, A former Vietnam Marine 1/9 ('67)
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!! Review: I love this book. Oliver North did a great job on this. The story line is so believable it's almost scary. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: Proud to be a Christian Review: I have to start by saying that I read a couple of very constipated reviews about this book. They like to make North look like a traitor and a Bill Clinton basher. Let me tell you something, Clinton deserves to be bashed. WHAT HE DID... WAS WRONG!!! And this book isn't about how North should or shouldn't be classified as a traitor, it's about learning about being a Christian in the worst possible circumstances. It was about right and wrong. And I really do believe, that if you want to label me or anyone, or Oliver North a "Bible Thumper", do you think we care? We are proud of who we are. We're Christian men, and we care about honoring God more than we do about serving someone such as a Bill Clinton! Like Lt. Col. Newman, we have to stand up for what is right and for what Jesus would think, not what society thinks we should stand up for. Bravo Lt. Col. North! This brother in Jesus Christ salutes you! AMEN!!!
Rating: Summary: I Love this book Review: I am 25 years old and at the age of nine I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and have always had a very hard time reading. I have never read a novel because of my dyslexia but I have always wanted too. I was so afraid to read a book that big but that all changed. I ordered Cornel Oliver L. North's book Mission Compromised. As soon as I started reading I could not put this book down. I was hooked from the start. Because of my deep faith in Christ I loved the fact that faith was intertwined with this wonderful story. If you ever wanted to read a great book this is it. Everyone should read this book. I imagined the characters in my mind and David James Elliott from Jag was whom I imagined as Maj. Peter J. Newman. If they ever turn this into a movie and I hope they do He would be perfect for the part. This was such a great book and I cant wait to see Cornel Oliver L. North in Pensacola September 17. I am looking forward to seeing one of our countries greatest Heros and states men. Never forget that this man did more for our country than Bill Clinton Ever did. Sincerely, Ashley Waller Newberry
