Rating: Summary: Deep Sound Channel Review: What a disapointment! This book tries to be like a Tom Clancey Novel. Unfortunitly the author must not have read any of his books to emulate his style. There is no build up, there is no plot definition. The reader does not even know who the main charicters are untill the middle of the book. The plot is way over the top, full scale nuclear war??? At sea??? The reader doesnt have any idea why the axis nations are fighting, there is not reasoning. Just a bunch of military techno-babble with a weak romantic sub-plot
Rating: Summary: never really takes off Review: What a great story by writer Buff! "Deep Sound Channel," is a thrilling tale about an unholy alliance between South Africa and Germany (the year is future 2011) -- a high-tech war at sea between AXIS and NATO -- A war like none the world has ever seen before!
Rating: Summary: "A Thrilling Outing" Review: What a great story by writer Buff! Rating: Summary: Utterly Absurd Review: Yet another military tale of the near future. This one is about the most illogical and improbable situation imaginable - Germany and South Africa take on the world! It's so...realistic. Where to begin? A white takeover in S Africa is about as likely as an Indian takeover in the US. And does anyone really think the small S AFrican military can challenge the world? Then there is the matter of the most pacifist state in Europe returning to fascism and attacking their neighbor with nukes (right). No reason is ever given for these irrational turn of events. In true story fashion, they "just happened." The story's characters are mere caricatures - the brave American sailor, the winsome gal, the enemy commander ("Americans have grown soft"). No character development, just undersea action. But then most folks who like this sort of thing enjoyed the technical jargon that fills this novel. I can put up Tom Clancy rhapsodizing on calibers, M23X and JayVee 7As because of the good writing, plot and characters. But here one faces random, improbable events, cardboard characters with unimaginative dialogue and boring writing. Take a pass.
