Summary: Already Bored
Review: Yes, the language is beautiful. Yes, the characters are brilliant. Yes, the book damn near bored me to tears. This thing needed an editor with an eye for economy. The length isn't necessarily the issue--it's the fact that Johnson overlaps so much of the plot from different perspectives, and I just didn't want to read the same thing over and over again. I'm a big fan of Johnson; loved Fiskadoro, Jesus' Son, Resuscitation of a Hanged Man, but I resented him for dragging me into this quagmire, and making me wallow in it for long.
