Rating: Summary: Great beginning, weird ending Review: This is a very fast paced story, as are all of Erica Spindler's book that I have read so far. The characters aren't as strong as in her past books, but they are still pretty well devoloped; only occasionally acting out of character. The end of the book is the only part that I didn't like. The true identity of the killer just didn't seem plausible to me, nor did the killer's sidekick. All in all a good book, but the ending was a bit of a let down.
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!! Review: This was a great book. It was so captivating, that I read it all in one sitting. Ms. Spindler has a unique writing style that draws the reader in and doesn't let go until the last word. I would call this a "must read."
Rating: Summary: This book had potential. Review: Unfortunately, this book did not live up to it's potential. The female lead is about as believable as a flying cat. She's determined. She's confused. She's strong. She's weepy. She's so doggone annoying. Equally as annoying is just about everyone else this book. The characters jump back and forth between views with no credibility whatsoever. If one person would pick an opinion and stick with it throughout the book you might have a decent read here. But they don't. I suggest you skip this -- it's like eating a rice cake: Sounds like it should be good for you but tastes like cheap cardboard.
Rating: Summary: Supposed "thrillers" just don't get any worse than this Review: When I shell out 7 to 8 dollars for a paperback, by George I'm going to read it, regardless of how bad it may turn out to be. Well, my fellow readers, this book may very well be the worst stinker I have ever purchased...and I have suffered through some really bad ones over the years. Aside from the story being monumentally cliched....a problem that can be overlooked if the author knows how to write and keep your interest....this is the first book I have ever read where there isn't a single character to like. Every character here seems either nuerotic, bi-polar, uncertain, schizoid, insecure, deranged, and, as one reviewer here put it...just plain ole wishy-washy. When you have an entire cast of unlikable characters going through a painted-by-numbers story, you are in for one disasterous read. I think a lot of readers here can relate if I said that this novel is BEGGING to be made into a Lifetime Channel movie starring the likes of Morgan Fairchild and Andrew Stevens. The dialog in this book is so unbelievebly cheesy and jaw-droppingly ignorant, practically nothing would have to be changed to provide the screenplay for one of those low budget cheesefests. I couldn't believe how much this author repeats herself throughout the book, for example, just how many times did each character "press the palm of their hands to their eyes".....or "lifted their top lip" (couldn't she just have simply wrote smiled ?), and there are several other goofy phrases and terms she obviously thought were cute....just like when a small child picks up a very annoying bad habit....she repeats them endlessly. Thus, her juvenile wordplay throughout the book was very annoying, unoriginal, and most importantly, the work of someone who is extremely uninformed in their chosen craft. Yet another severe problem with this book was her repeated efforts to dumb down a scenerio that has already took place, so perhaps maybe a 10 year old who didn't understand would catch on. The scene would play out, we the reader would get it, but then...lo and behold.....her very dumb characters would then have to discuss it as if they were talking to us and explaining what just took place. This happened very often in this extremely bad novel, and then, we come to the conclusion, which happens to be one of the most absurd, ludicrous and mind-numbingly unbelievable endings I have ever suffered through. My good people, trust me, this book can be used for a "Don't Let This Happen to You" writing course. If you are seeking a very stupid and cheesy read, and know before hand that this book is just that, and aren't expecting a Thriller, then read it. If you are seeking an intelligent Thriller (like I was duped into believing this was) stay clear of this turkey.
