Summary: I carry a torch for Anne George's Southern Sisters.
Review: The Southern Sisters series is one of the best! Overall, it's a consistent series...funny, well written, excellently plotted, with interesting background detail. "Murder Carries a Torch" is no exception to that generalization: in fact, this novel may be the best of the series so far. It seems easier, somehow: not so contrived and outrageous. But then again, anything with Mouse, Aunt Sister, a dumb cop, and a bunch of religious snake-handlers is going to be a LITTLE outrageous.

Sit back and enjoy it!

Summary: Funny, Action Packed and Just Plain Great
Review: This book is very humorous and will it also provides a little mystery between the humor. Anne is gone but will never be forgotten.

Summary: My Review on Murder
Review: This book was awesome! It was very exciting and had me at the edge of my chair every chapter! Plus, I love to read mysteries and this sure was a strange one! The only negative comment I would make would be to leave out the offensive cussing. Other than the language, it was a marvelous book and if you get a chance, read "Murder Carries a Torch."

Summary: Just Danged Good
Review: This next-to-the-last book in the 'Southern Sisters' series is one of the best. The sisters' cousin, Pukey Lukey's (called so because he always got car sick as a child) wife is missing. The search leads the ladies to a snake handling church and a corpse. A quick read, the author's humor is in top form. Only one regret: After she wrote the next book ("Murder Boogies with Elvis") Anne George passed away. God Bless this author, who has given so much joy and entertainment thru her talent.

Summary: They're Back.....
Review: When prim and size 6 petite, retired high school English teacher, Patricia Anne (Mouse), and her six foot, 250 pound, three times widowed, flamboyant sister, Mary Alice (Sister), get a call about a missing in-law, you can bet that trouble is just around the corner, with a capital T. Cousin Pukey Lukey, so named because of an unfortunate problem with carsickness is out of his mind with worry. It seems, his wife or forty-something years, Virginia, has run off with their housepainter and hasn't been seen or heard from in several weeks. Luke's finally got a lead. Said housepainter is also a snake-handling preacher, up on Chandler Mountain, and he wants the girls to drive with him and help him first find Virginia, and then convince her to come back home. Luke is so pathetic, neither sister can refuse him, so off they all go to find the Church of Jesus is Our Life and Heaven Hereafter, where she's supposedly staying. Virginia and her housepainting/preacher boyfriend are nowhere to be found. But they do find the body of a young woman laid out on a pew in the church, and it looks like she was murdered..... Anne George has written another light and charming mystery, starring her irrepressable Southern Sisters, who, as usual, have a penchant for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her storyline is engaging and entertaining, her scenes, vivid and at times, laugh out loud funny, and her writing, down to earth, and filled with southern humor and dialogue. But it's Ms George's wonderfully quirky characters that make this book stand out, and once you've been introduced to these sixty-something sleuths, and the rest of this terrific cast, you'll be hooked, for sure. If you're new to this mystery series, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning with Murder On A Girl's Night Out, and read them all. If you're already a fan, Murder Carries A Torch is another joyous romp through Birmingham, you don't want to miss.

Summary: TORCH SONGS AND TAP DANCES
Review: Wow. When I Saw all those "5"'s given this book, I could not imagine giving it anything else but. However, this entry in the Southern Sisters series deserves it. I was somewhat disappointed in Ms. George's last mystery, but this one returns to the homespun, acerbic, and silly humor of the previous entries.
Patricia Anne and Mary Alice get involved in the disappearance of their cousin Pukey Luke's wife, Virginia. When it seems that she's run off with a snake-handling minister, the ladies find themselves kneedeep in rattlesnakes, cover-ups, and murder.
What's so nice about this book, however, is not really the whodunit aspect, but the relationships these people have with each other. The sisters are funny, and their respective hubbies or boyfriends are amusing, too. George has a way of knowing how important family and friends are; how important pets (such as Woofer and Muffin) are; and although the murderer's identity is fairly obvious early on, who cares? We have lots of fun getting there.
A real treat. So sorry to hear that Ms. George has passed away, with one more Southern Sisters mystery left. I know she's with the angels, and thank you for bringing us your talents and time!

Summary: Let's hear it for the retired Bama English teacher author
Review: You want some kind of southern fun and a coincidental dead body or two? Anne George dishes both up in each of her Southern Sister "Murder" books. She can make you laugh out loud when you read of Mary Alice and Patricia Anne and their escapades. I have purchased and given sets of George's books as gifts to folks ranging in age from 30-80. All have agreed that these are fun mysteries. Murder Carries a Torch does not disappoint. George rehashes enough in each book of the series to keep the reader from feeling lost. The books do follow a publication date sequence, but reading them out of sequence does not hurt at all. Having emailed Anne George and receiving her reply, I am anxiously awaiting Murder Does the Dirty Boogie With Elvis. Treat yourself!
