Summary: Middle of Nowhere leaves us needing more
Review: I had one problem with this book. The wait I will have until the next Lou Boldt novel. I usually don't like what i consider a serial novelist, someone who brings us the same character and because of that familiarity the story suffers. Ridley Pearson trancends this. It is a great story first and the characters are having true problems which makes them real, therefore making the story ring all the more true. The story of the sickout within the Police force setting "brother against brother" could have made the book itself but Ridley goes beyond that. We get to meet our mysterious Chinese Mafia head and wonder when and what favors are going to be asked. Ridley, and to the buyers out there, this was a great read, I hate cliches but I could not put it down. These characters are friends now and if you don't know them get to know them, buy The First Victim when you pick up this book. This makes for better than just summer reading get ready to be hooked and hopefully soon Ridley will lead us out of the Middle of Nowhere.

Summary: Strong through the end
Review: Middle of Nowhere grabbed my attention from the beginning. It was fast paced. Intriguing questions asked by the characters that are difficult for the reader to answer. Well developed plot and characters. Less wordy than some. I look forward to his next one.

Summary: Better than most, but not the best
Review: Ridley Pearson continues to write well-paced, intriguing novels starring detective Lou Boldt and psychologist Daphne Matthews. Middle of Nowhere, however, is not the best. This book is still better than most other mystery/thrillers being written. The ending, though interesting, is not particularly shocking or twisting. The feelings between Daphne and the married Lou are explored more fully in this novel. However, it's left hanging in the end, almost as if Pearson had to wrap things up quickly and had no time left for this. Readers are left to hope that the relationship gets more depth in the next novel. Overall, a great read, but not as good as other Boldt mysteries, like The Pied Piper and Beyond Recognition.

Summary: Greatest Yet!
Review: Ridley Pearson's Middle of Nowhere is definetely his best yet! I have read all of the Boldt-Matthews series and enjoyed them all, but he has exceeded all expectations with this one. It is a page-turner and has lots of edge-of-the-seat suspense. If you have not read Ridley Pearson's books before, then start at the beginning of the Boldt-Matthews series and read them in order and you will grow to know Lou Boldt and Daffy Matthews, and love them as I do. The book is great!

Summary: Excellent procedural
Review: All in all, a great read - read it in one day. What I found most interesting, though, is the depiction of police as being far more interested in their paychecks than in adhering to the oath they swear when inducted onto the force. While in the book, the standard line of "a few bad apples" is followed, the discerning reader, especially one who's ever dealt with urban cops, will know that that's a function of fiction. Even so-called "good cops" who don't lie or steal themselves are perfectly willing to cover for their blue brethren - it's practically a job requirement.

As always with Mr. Pearson's novels, the forensic details are the most outstanding feature. His knowledge in this area exceeds any of the other authors I've read, and it adds a certain educational element to reading his books; you learn things about technology and police work you won't readily find elsewhere.

Summary: Middle of Nowhere
Review: Ridley Pearson has done it again! Another great entry in the Lou Boldt saga. The characters are likeable, interesting, believeable and most importantly, human. A sense of foreboding and tension, which starts building on the very first page, permeates the whole book. I couldn't read it fast enough. A real winner!

Summary: Wow, A Can't Put Down Til You're Through Book!
Review: A great book, one that is hard to put down. You find yourself picking it up even if you've only five minutes of reading time.... Lou Boldt and Daphne Matthews are back and on one heck of a case. I recommend this book to EVERYONE who loves mystery/thrillers. Beach, plane trip, vacation, whatever, this is the book to take with you. I guarantee you time will fly.

Summary: Chiller of a thriller!
Review: Another great read from Mr. Riddley! Lou Boldt, Daphne Matthews and Sergeant John LaMoia are back trying to save Seattle from disaster. Cops are on strike, a string of brutal robberies, and then the near murder of a female cop, all have Boldt and company scurrying to keep up. Lou is on the brink of a break down, but of course police phsycologist Daphne Mathews is there to help him (talk about sexual tension). The action and suspense spirial down to a clamatic ending that kept me turning pages! If you have read mr. Riddley in the past you will not be disappointed, if you are new to mr. Riddley you have a real treat coming, though you might want to start with 'Under currents' (my favorite Lou Boldt novel).

I also recomend: "A Tourist in the Yucatan"

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: A fast paced thriller from page one, "Middle of Nowhere" doesn't let down for a minute. Ridley Pearson has done it again! Be prepared to loose some sleep until you finish.

With tensions high as a result of a "blue flu" epidemic in the Seattle Police Department how do you know who to trust? Fortunately, lieutenant Lou Boldt knows who his friends are.

With the help of psychologist, and now lieutenant, Daphne Matthews, a string of robberies and assaults are sorted out. Are they connected? Are they being misled? Can they sort it out before Boldt pays the ultimate price for persistence?

As always the story could have been taken from the newspaper as it is amazingly current. It has technical depth without becoming boring, carefully balanced with glimpses of Boldt's personal life, making the characters wonderfully human.

If you've read other books in the series you know nothing's ever easy between Boldt and Matthews. When you add the changes his wife, Liz, has gone through dealing with her illness it would be a wonder if Boldt didn't feel conflicted. Boldt is noble enough to always want to do the right thing, yet human enough to not always be sure just what that is.

If you haven't read the other's, don't worry... this one can stand alone.

I've anxiously awaited the release of this book and wanted to read it slowly so I could savor every word.Pearson, however, had other ideas for me! I couldn't put it down! Having already read all of Pearson's books I should have known as much.

I highly recommend "Middle of Nowhere" to anyone willing to give up a little sleep for a lot of excitement!

Summary: Another great novel from the master of suspense and mystery
Review: Ridley begins the latest book in the Boldt/Matthews series with an assault on a fellow police officer. As in all of his novels, Ridley mounts the suspense by introducing great plot twists and continuing the lives of the fleshed out characters his readers have come to love. Fast paced plotting has always been a trademark of any Pearson novel, and is especially evident in MONW. Perhaps the only letdown(what caused me to rate this book at 4 stars instead of 5 like most of Pearson's novels) is the downplaying of the forensic detail which many longtime fans of Ridley, such as myself, have come to expect. Despite this, MONW is a must read for any thriller or suspense fan, and especially for those of us who wait so impatiently for each of Ridley's novels. For those who have not read his books, this is a good point to jump into the captivating world of the Boldt/Matthews series. Good luck in obtaining the rest because you will be hooked!
