Summary: a good light read
Review: I like to think of Soares as a comedic Gore Vidal. The basic tension in this book comes from throwing a famous, eccentric, British aristocrat into a world where characters don't act like they do in England, like a comedic version of the Holmes story which takes place in Utah. For what it is, entertainment, it's fine, but hardly 5 star literature.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I read this book in French. (It's called "Elementaire ma chere Sarah") -- Definitely the funniest book I've read in a long time. It is also an excellent introduction to Brazilian history and culture.

Summary: Muito bom :)
Review: I read this book in portuguese.. Do you known XangĂ´? It's so funny, but if you don't known brazilian history maybe you don't understand some episodes. From Brazil it is very fun :))

Summary: If you are a Sherlock fan, stay away or enjoy the joke...
Review: I've read the other reviews on this book, and i'm sad to see that 90% of the North American readers (myself included) bought this book expecting a traditional Holmes adventure. I have to admit that as soon as i got into this reading i noticed this could not be serious...so, i decided to read it as a joke, and guess what: it was not bad at all, in fact, it was a very entertaining book, full of humor and extremely light reading... I'm a big Holmes fan, but the people who rated this book as being the worst ever writen with the character of Sherlock Holmes are idiots who treat a ficcional character as a religion! Folks, Sherlock Holmes never existed, ok? The reviews i read about this book are the type of reviews you can expect from a bunch of Catholic priests reading Carl Sagan...sorry i had to read those, the book is awesome!

Summary: One of a kind
Review: I've read the portuguese edition and I can say it's pretty fun. Jo Soares is a brazillian version of David Letterman and this book was an extra activity. The way he mocks with Sherlock Holmes is very interesting. In my opinion it's the kind of book he mustun't try do a continuation because it would be boring, but A Samba for Sherlock deserves a couple of spare hours

Rating: 5 stars

Summary: funny and clever
Review: If you are a boring person, stupid and blind purist of Sherlock's "square old style", please, stay away of this book... go to the grave... and rest in peace.

Summary: wow
Review: if you r a stubborn fanatic full of pre conceived ideas about how a character should be directed, or a narrow minded person , whose interest rely on nothing but your own culture , dont read it. if you`d like to try something new , funny and learn a bit more of the world that surrounds you, buy it...

Summary: Outragerous shame
Review: It is a shame anyone can use characters from old classics when copyright is due. Soon there will be "A Tango for Hamlet", which will sell a million copies before everybody knows it has nothing to do with Shakespeare.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Humour only for the most refined of tastes.
Review: It is sad, really, that people are allowed to talk about things they don't know. How can anyone dislike it? Some of the facts may not understandable for those who do not live in Brazil, but it is still very funny, verry clever, with a refined humour, understandable only for those who have a good taste. It is a book I STRONGLY recommend (I've read it twice), provided that the reader has a little bit of sense of humour to understand that this book is, in no way, offensive to Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Congrats to those who understood the humour it and my sincere condolences to those who didn't.
