Summary: Absolutely Absorbing!
Review: I was a bit worried when I bought this book knowing that it involved law, secret police, and gov't conspiracy, which none is my favorite subject. However, even being a person whose Engish is not the mother language, I found the book absolutely absorbing, the story gripping, and it was so easy to read. I finished the whole in about a week just during my commuting time between work and home.

I recommend this book to anyone even to those who do not like to read. I can also see it has enough substance to be produced into a film.

Summary: Well-written, lots of plot twists, bogus ending
Review: I enjoyed reading this, despite my own military background. Finder spent a lot of time doing research, and it paid off in a generally believable scenario. The ending was telegraphed, and I found it hard to swallow, but the fast pace and clever dialog (_much_ better than in his previous books) made it tolerable.

Summary: This is a real page-turner!
Review: This was the first book by Joseph Finder I have ever read. Seldom do I encounter a book which I truly hate to see end. Finder is as exciting, albeit more readable, than Robert Ludlum. His villains are menacing, his characters are people you care about, and the endings have unique twists. The ending of High Crimes was a total, yet logical, surprise. I was so impressed I immediately read Zero Hour, and currently have his other two books in my home. This is a writer who I will be reading from now on, every time a new book appears. Great, great stuff!

Summary: A good read but lacks credibility
Review: I admit it. I read this book in a sitting and a half. But I had to suspend my credibility every page. As one reviewer pointed out, there's no such thing as "shoot to kill'' and "shoot to wound.'' There's also no way anyone, even the military, would engage in such obvious deception without someone blowing the whistle. The surprise twist at the end? It was telegraphed pretty early. Oh well, it's still a good book for a plane ride.

Summary: Pathetic! No Serious Legal Research. Baseless Commentary.
Review: The most pathetic book I have ever read. It is sinful that the author claims to be legally accurate; vis a vis: "legal consultants" in the acknowledgements. The lack of legal research obviates itself. As a federal law enforcement officer, I can tell you with 100% certainty (refering to page 16)that there is no such thing as "...authorized to kill," nor "...permitted to wound if necessary". That's what made the Nazis the Nazis. From this point forward, the book revealed its hand in making the following political statement: "The only true evil is the US Government". I truely hope that all Americans are embarrassed at the author's feeble attempts at realism ("...authorized to wound" etc.). The only reason I finished this book is that it was an anniversary present from my wife and she said that I had to. Don't waste your money or time.

Summary: Wow what a book!
Review: I enjoyed this book immensely.

I stayed up till 3 in the morning to finish it. What I like most were the courtroom scenes - whoa!

I can see a movie based on this book

Summary: A really good read!
Review: The plot twist at the end of this book was great. You almost knew that the story wasn't going to be a straightfoward as you thought, but neither did you know which way it was going to turn. This was the first book I have read by Joseph Finder--I hope his others are as equally engrossing.

Summary: A Very Entertaining, Fast Read
Review: As in The Moscow Club and Extraordinary Powers, Joseph Finder has written a very entertaining,fast-paced book that once you start , you won't want to put down.

The story has lots of surprises, the dialogue is crisp and, for the most part, realistic. The main characters are mostly likable but could have been more fully developed. Nonetheless, High Crimes is well worth reading! Further, if this is your first book by Finder, you might also want to read The Moscow Club and Extraordinary Powers. His third book, The Zero Hour, was not as good.

Summary: A cut above the government conspiracy mystery
Review: A "neat," suspense, mystery, lawyer, court, conspiracy, frame-ups, corruption of power thriller. It kept me interested. It will make a good movie if the scriptwriters don't screw it up. Finder's characters, decent dialogue, twists and turns, tech terrorism, electronic gadgetry make it a significant cut above the plethora of "government agency mystery novels." And how does Finder begin? "He that has eyes to see and ears to hear may convince himself that no mortal can keep a secret. If his lips are silent, he chatters with his fingertips; betrayal oozes out of him at every pore." Sigmund Freud.

Summary: A very, very scary book
Review:

My practically perfect spouse brought this book home from the library. I settled in to read a few pages before bed.

That was four hours and 300+ pages ago. I finished it in one sitting and was riveted from start to finish.

Yes, there are some obvious errors....Claire and her team should have believed Embry and looked for another source of their leak....and, why was there no formal investigation of the sabatoge on Claire's car....and, why didn't someone follow up on those early morning phone calls?

Even with those glitches, I found this book to be one of the most interesting, complex and suspense-filled stories to come down the pike in a while. I'm a long-time suspense/thriller/mystery reader -- I remember when Ludlum was GOOD, so I was delighted to find a new voice in my favorite genre.

Keep it up, Mr. Finder!
