Rating: Summary: Vroom! Vroom! Review: Once again Temperance Brennan takes you on a journey -- this time involving bikers! Have been a Cornwell reader for years and Reichs deserves as strong a following. Love the detail of her investigation and her method of getting the reader involved in all the nuances of her work and family relationships. Reichs really gets into the biker world but, thankfully, does not wallow in the slime. She is focused on her investigation and never loses sight of her purpose -- who, what, where and why. The "why" can be a distasteful jolt, and Reichs manages to deliver satisfaction to the end. The reader is a definite participant on this literary ride.
Rating: Summary: Deadly waste of time Review: This is without doubt one of the worst books I have had the misfortune to come across. Reichs' command of the English language is nothing short of appalling . The smattering of French with its groansomely obvious English explanations left me smacking my head with disbelief that this pulp was published, let alone allowed to progress beyond the initial bad idea stage. I truly hope that the author is much, much better at her day job than she is at stringing sentences together. I do read and thoroughly enjoy other books, and yes I enjoy pulp for pulp's sake, but I found it hard to sustain interest in this tiresome drivel.
Rating: Summary: don't bother Review: i'm sorry but i don't understand any of the good reviews, this book was the most cliched, unexciting book i've ever finished.I read about a book a week and couldn't wait to have it end. Don't bother wasting your money and time
Rating: Summary: The Best Yet Review: This is the 3rd installment of Temperance Brennan, the 1st was Deja Dead and the 2nd was Death du Jour. Tempe is back with an even more complex case this time around. She is still the forensic anthropologist in both Montreal and North Carolina. Pierre LaManche is Tempe's boss, and he is in the hospital so Tempe must take over the case. A child is involved so it really gets to the core of her being, and she wants to solve the case and fast, but she knows it will not be easy. Two Outlawed Motorcycle Gang members are dead from a vicious and ongoing altercation between the Heathens and the Vipers. The two gang members were blown up by a bomb into a million small parts, and what makes it even harder for Tempe. The bikers were identical twins with matching DNA. Tempe takes identifying the bikers as relatively routine part of her job, like putting a forensic puzzle together. The Heathens strike back at the Vipers, and unfortunately a nine-year-old girl named Emily Anne Toussant, who was on her way to school, gets caught in the crossfire. For Tempe that becomes her cataplasm she joins the gang task force. They discover a teenaged girl's body buried at a biker clubhouse. The girl is Savannah Osprey who was last seen thumbing a ride with a transient biker. Also drawn into the case is Tempe's nephew Kit, who doesn't realize that these gangs are the kiss of death for outsiders. Lyle Crease is a smart-aleck newscaster who wants to use Kit to get to Tempe. Be prepared for the body count to rise in this outing. I was as grabbed with Deadly Decisions as I was with Deja Dead and Death du Jour. This book is filled with rich details of the cutting edge forensic techniques that Kathy Reichs uses in her real life work, that's why the forensic details are so gruesome. The author takes the reader into the dark and shocking world of the international motorcycle gangs, and what a wild ride it is, it will scare the pants off of you at times. This book was fast-paced and bone chilling and is going to make Kathy Reichs star shine even brighter than before.
Rating: Summary: Too Draggy- Too Technical Review: I don't like to have to read 2/3 of a book before it starts to move!
Rating: Summary: A "transitional" mystery Review: K. Reichs' third Temperence Brennan mystery rewards the loyal reader on only one of two levels. Least rewarding: Temperance's perserverance as a crime fighter are put to the test by the volume of victims, and none to appealing this time around. The deaths by bombing, drive-by shooting, hit man shooting, etc., pretty much become a blur by the book's halfway point. What kept me turning the pages? The mysteries in Brennan's complicated personal life-- a nephew that may be a flaky and danger-prone as Brennan's sister; a lover who is intriguingly (and frustratingly) incommunicado for the bulk of the novel; and a detective who has grudgingly helped Brennan in the past, but may now jeopardize her loved ones. I think fans should view this book much like a plausible and necessary stepping stone to a more fulfilling next book. The sea changes in the relationships set up in this novel, teamed with a more satisfying criminal mystery, could make Reichs' next work a five-star treat.
Rating: Summary: disappointing descision Review: I was very disappointed with this book. I thorougly enjoyed Reich's earlier works and was eager to read Deadly Decisions. However, the story gets bogged down in technical talk...the details on blood spatter analysis and how they put motorcyles together could have been easily eliminated and then more space would have been left for the story!
Rating: Summary: Choosing this book is NOT a Deadly Decision Review: This is the best Kath Reichs to date. She has written another highly readable, perfectly timed, and well-plotted book. The characters are real, the story is believable, and the plot if rapid. The story starts with a a bit of work dissonance for tempe; two bikers would be murderes are murdered and a 9-year old little girl gets killed in the cross fire of the revenge follow-up. Careful research, intense plot turns, high-tech gizmos --- it all adds up to a wondrful page turner. This is absolutely a book not to miss., The only deadly decision you could make would be to miss this book. Buy it, read it.
Rating: Summary: As good as Cornwell Review: Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan handles the case that coroners cannot handle. She provides consulting services to the Laboratoire de Sciences Judiciaires et de Medecine Legale and to the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner. She also teaches body recovery workshops at the FBI academy. Currently, Temperance is looking at the remains of two identical twins killed in an explosion. Due to the genetic match of the siblings DNA testing cannot help her. Temperance joins a multiagency task force investigating this case. Law enforcement official arrest a biker, who in exchange for a lighter sentence leads the group to other buried members including a teenage girl. As Temperance gets closer to he truth her about the latest biker wars, her own life is placed in jeopardy from the killers who prefers to remain in the cold murdering targeted bikers. On any reader test scale, Kelly Reichs' latest work, DEADLY DECISIONS, matches up well with the best of Cornwell. The tale centers on biker gangs that engage in criminal activities rather than the hobbyist enjoying their motorcycle. The frightening story line focuses on a fascinating depraved world that is a thrill a page as the terrific Temperance tries to solve an impossible case without becoming a coroner's next evaluation. Rating: Summary: FORENSIC THRILLS OF THE FIRST ORDER Review: Forensic anthropologist, Tempe Brennan, has always taken her feelings out of her work, this case is different. The death of a nine year-old girl, caught in the crossfire of rival biker gangs, sends Tempe on a mission...bring the killers to justice. As Tempe begins her case she will be thrust into a dark world, where every truth in masked in a lie. As her case takes shape, she will find the skeleton of a missing teenager, a young girl who was running with the bike gangs. She will also confront awful truths about her friend Andrew, who has disappeared after being wanted by the police. Using her forensic skills, and some of the latest technology, Tempe, must solve this puzzle, and catch the killers, before the next death is her own. "Deadly Decisions" is a first rate forensic's thriller. The pace is fast, the plot is complex, and the writing, top-notch. Kathy Reichs has created a character who stomps on "Scarpetta" territory, and more than gets a way with it. Fans of well-written, suspense novels should dive into this one. A MUST read! Nick Gonnella
