Summary: Plodding and Predictable
Review: I did see the movie before I read this book and kinda liked it. I cannot say the same for the book. I just wasn't very good or interesting. I couldn't wait until I was finished with it so that I could move onto something with a greater literary value. Watch the movie, but skip the book!

Summary: First and probably the last Leonard I'll read
Review: I had been meaning to read Elmore Leonard for years now, ever since seeing movies like Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I knew Quentin Tarantino was a big fan and was heavily influenced by Leonard. So, after much surfing and emailing, I determined Get Shorty was likely the best novel to start with. It was pretty good, but a really light read. What makes Leonard's writing shine is the dialogue; you've heard the overused "dialogue crackles" rave? Well Leonard really delivers...this is why his novels make such successful movies; they read like them. This is a novel perfect for those who typically prefer movies over novels. I prefer the depth of Michael Connelly or Greg Iles or Dennis Lehane myself. But this is an entertaining story and certainly holds your attention, and before you know it, it's over. Just like a good movie.

Summary: A Masterful Treatment of the Crime Fiction Genre!
Review: This the first novel I have read by Elmore Leonard and I am IMPRESSED! The crackling, witty dialogue is unbelievable. Chili Palmer, the main character is a loan shark of limited education but a boundless ego, whose only source of information on the world comes as a result of being an avid movie fan. Leonard does not need to utilize violence and vulgarity to bring across the notion that Chili is a dangerous man. Leonard does it the old fashion way with incredible dialogue where the meaning is to be found in what is not said as opposed to what is. This is a must read for anybody who wants a light, delightful distaction.

Summary: A solid piece of work
Review: I haven't read too much of Leonard's work, but beyond the beginning which is confusing at first, I did enjoy the suspense of how everything was going to work out.

Summary: 'Get Shorty' Isn't Short On Entertainment
Review: This sardonic Hollywood satire is an engrosing, fast, and witty crime novel. Here's the premise: loan shark Chili Palmer comes to L.A. to collect some debts. After visiting film director Harry Zimm, he doesn't break his legs but becomes his partner instead. They team up to produce a risky movie and Chili starts to make one of his own on the side. Soon, Harry's sleazy investors come into the picture and want Chili rubbed out. Chili's rival Ray Bones visits town, also with the intent on giving the slick hit man trouble. Meanwhile, Chili becomes friends with a big shot movie star and falls in love with Harry's leading lady. A fortune of cash is at stake while 'Get Shorty' evolves from one plot twist to the next. If you love movies or complex thrillers with gritty diolauge and human characters, pick up a copy of this fresh and enjoyable caper.

Summary: Cool like jazz...
Review: Fast, funny, and electric! An outstanding novel that keeps getting better and better...until it reaches one of the best endings ever. Read this book.

Summary: Just perfect
Review: Elmore Leonard writes with a whip-lash wit altogether too rare in today's literature. This book is a wild, off-the-track rollercoaster ride of side-splitting humour dished out through richly developed and sarcastically real characters. A really fun read!

This book is tres bien and est meilluer que tu!!!!!!!! You are a beastly old, stale, rotten mixture of ruby red and tropicana fruit punch mixed in with a tiny bit of saltless pretzels half-eaten by a monstourous telephone by the name of Wyatt.
