Summary: better then the movie
Review: I actually read get shorty after seeing the movie. The movie I though was good but it isn't as good as the book. The book does a far better job of telling the story and getting behind the motives of the characters. It's an interesting story about how the whole Hollywood system works.

Summary: More Elmore
Review: I COULD WRITE THE SAME REVIEW OF ANY OF LEONARD'S BOOKS. THEY ARE WONDERFUL IN DIALOGUE AND RICH IN COLORFUL CHARACTERS. THE FULL MEASURE OF AN AUTHOR IS NOT IF HE CAN APPEAL TO NEW YORK CRITICS, BUT WHETHER HE CAN TOUCH AN AUDIENCE OF INDIANA FACTORY WORKERS AND SPARK A RECURRING INTEREST. HE HAS DONE BOTH. THE FACTORY PEOPLE I WORK WITH AND CHECK OUT BOOKS FOR, REQUEST HIS BOOKS FROM THE AUDIO LIBRARY MORE THAN ANY OTHER AUTHOR.
THEY ARE FUNNY, REVEALING AND RICH IN CHARACTER AND TEXTURE. WE HOPE FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF LEONARD AND HIS ANTICS.

Summary: Why the fuss about Leonard?
Review: I read this after hearing a lot about Leonard, and how funny and clever his books supposedly are. Well, I tried this one and another (not sure what the other is called anymore, think it's Glitz) and did not find much that was funny or clever in them. In fact, I found both books rather dull and contrived, and think I am probably being generous by giving it two stars. Maybe I am just not a Leonard type of person.

Summary: The Emperor Has No Clothes
Review: To everyone and their brother who thinks they're cool because they like Elmore Leonard, wake up and put down whatever you've been smoking! I was shocked by how poor this book was. Elmore Leonard once said he leaves out the stuff people skip. Hey, Elmore, how about leaving out the last 100 pages? Or how about all 350 of them?

1. Story -- Not interesting. Two-bit mafia guy with quirky catch phrase ["Look at me"] goes to LA and hooks up with a collection of semi-famous idiots and is being hunted by a collection of violent idiots. Never once did I look forward to picking the book up again and seeing what happened next. 2. Characters -- Lifeless. Leonard is too busy trying to make them "cool", as he is so well known for, that they come across as bland. It's 350 pages of "i'm cool," "no i'm cool," "well, OK, she's cool." "Let's go to Spago and be cool together". 3. Dialogue -- Stilted. Tries too hard to make it sound real, and so you hear leonard's voice rather than the characters' voices. 4. Conflict -- Virtually non-existent. Scenes with Catlett and Chili were almost devoid of tension and conflict.

thankfully I got this book cheap and didn't drop 13 bucks on it.

Summary: A fun read. Better than the film.
Review: This was my first Elmore Leonard book. It had a good plot (we've all seen the movie, so we know what it is) and was quite humorous. I plan to read more books by him. I know this review is short, but I really don't have much else to say.

Summary: entertaining
Review: this book kept me interested but it's nothing special

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Fun but laboured
Review: Having seen the film, I was hoping for a more snappy book. Get Shorty is a good read, but at times the plot and dialogue drag. If you have the staying power, it's amusing.

Summary: Never Fell SHORT
Review: This book was one of the best books I have ever read. The dialogue was very believable. The plot made for a very interesting read. Chili Palmer was one of the best charactors I have ever had the privilage to read. If you are looking for a book with action, suspense, humor, and double cross, this is the book to get. Elmore Leonard has a way of making this charactor out to be the coolest person in the world. He makes you believe it too. You really begin to love these charactors like they are your own friends. Elmore Leonard is one of the best Crime-Fiction Writers ever.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Boring without any true conclusions
Review: This was my first and likely last Elmore Leonard novel. I must have missed something but I didn't find it very suspenseful, there was no mystery, and by the end of the book there didn't appear to be any real conclusion. Chili Palmer was an alright character but come on. A collector working for a loan shark making it as a movie mogul with no experience! We should all be so lucky.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Get Shorty is one of Leonard's best.
Review: With the words, Look at me, Chili Palmer can throw a scare into anyone, whether dry cleaner on the run, a derailed movie producer or a movie star. As Chili tries to make it into the movie business, the former loan shark runs into everything from crooked limo drivers, to actors and actresses, to a stupid mafia man with a grudge. Hilarious.
