Summary: BLACKOUT - A nonstop aviation thriller
Review: An airliner flies out of control when a mysterious light penetrates the cockpit leaving no one capable of flying it to safety - except maybe a kid who knows the Boeing 747 controls from a flight simulator. And to make matters worse, there are similarities between this 'flash' incident, and another jumbo jet that got into trouble in the skies near Cuba. Is this a new kind of terrorism? Or some sort of internal sabotage? Or maybe just a coincidence?

Book series heroine FBI Agent Katherine 'Kat' Bronsky is delivering a seminar on just these kinds of problems when she is pressed into service to solve and save the 'rudderless' jumbo jet and its two hundred passengers. With mysterious information provided to her by a newspaper reporter covering her seminar, she realizes evil forces, with possibly a worldwide network that rivals the capabilities and size of the FBI, are at work. These nefarious forces quickly make her and others the hunted, instead of the hunters.

Just when you hope for an adrenalin let up, this best yet JOHN NANCE aviation thriller climbs to a higher level of suspense, terror and fear. Series (swashbuckler?) character Kat Bronsky unconventional style continues to develop with this installment, along with her intelligence, wit and inventiveness. When every situation gets worse (by the minute), she gets better. So strap in, place your tray tables in their full upright position, and enjoy the flight.

Summary: Blackout- by John J. Nance
Review: As is usual with Nance's aviation thrillers, I kept turning the pages enthusiastically, with each event building on the next. Blackout started quickly, moving along with a lot of suspense. Then, I started to get a little bored with the story. But, suddenly, it became quick again, and I didn't want to put it down. My favorite book is still Pandora's Clock, though. Here is how I would rate Nance's books:

1. Pandora's Clock 2. Medusa's Child 3. The Last Hostage 4. Blackout 5. Scorpion's Strike 6. Phoenix Rising 7. Final Approach

Now I am waiting for his new book Headwind to come out. I am sure that will be another good one.

Summary: This Disaster Thriller Is A Disaster!
Review: As usual, John Nance is the master when he describes an airline disaster. Unfortunately, in Blackout his characters are so poorly developed and, in particular, his dialogue rings SO untrue that they completely outweigh the suspense Nance tries to maintain throughout the book. Usually I am not that critical of these factors as long as the plot is very strong. This is definitely not the case in Blackout. As a matter of fact, because of these factors I had to give up on this book with over 100 pages still to go. Save yourself from this disaster and thrill yourself with another book! I'd highly recommned Peter Blauner's Man Of The Hour.

Summary: Blackout -- a constant thriller...
Review: Blackout kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way though. This was really the first book in which I couldn't tell what was going to happen next. It has a twisted plot with a fantastic ending. I would definately recommend this book to others.

Summary: high-tech roller-coaster ride
Review: Blackout was a great "white-knuckle thriller" whick was always action packed. There were no dull moments. Kat,I think, is a strong independat woman trying to be noticed by the male agents and what she can prove to herself. MacAbe is a head strong reporter that knows more than he thinks, and the people after him know it. I really liked the teen, Steve, was a good character even though he crashed the plane but that was Dan's fault and the GPS. The coverup Kat found was a remarkable ending. I would of never of thought of it.

Summary: Thrilling, so addictive I couldn't put it down until 3am!
Review: Blackout was an amazing book by Nance and I strongly suggest it to all pilots. The conspiracy was amazing and the true story uncovered in the last 3 pages and the thrills ended on the last page! Bravo Nance, I'm now a huge fan!

Summary: This book was very enjoyable
Review: For those who can't see the wonderfull entertainment in this book, to bad! This was a fast paced, edge of the seat book, i usually read books slowly, something around 6 weeks, this one only took 2 i was so hook. At times the intensity got to me and i had to put it down. Very Enjoyable read.

Summary: Not as good, but still good!
Review: Good Book, not as strong as the others Nance has written, but definitally worth reading.

Summary: dumb but fun
Review: i agree, sort of, with both previous reviews. is the plot dumb ? of course, how often does the so-called reason why everything happens make sense? yes, the characters are cardboard, too. but the real good stuff is the airplane stuff, which is very interesting.

Summary: Man, this book is terrible
Review: I don't get it. Pandora's Clock was a potboiler, but good in its own way. But this, oh man. Start with a lame plot, whose twists are visible from 40,000 feet in the air (there are only two characters who might be secret vilians, and I would bet a first-class ticket to Hong Kong you can guess which one it is within 25 pages), mix in characters I would generously describe as one-dimensional, add the worst dialog you can imagine (probably the most frustrating part of this reading experience was trying not to cringe everytime someone opened their mouth), garnish with events improbable by even low-end-thriller standards (how many times can unqualified people take the controls of a flying vehicle?), and finish with suprise ending that is anything but. Listen, I didn't expect fine literature, but I expected Nance to at least live up to Pandora's Clock. This falls far short of even that target. The worst thing--the first 20-30 pages are pretty good. Tense, well-paced, some twists. But once the death rays start flying, you had better watch out.
