Rating: Summary: Very well done and a nice respite from Scarpetta. Review: I've read Hornet's Nest three times since purchasing it and I'll be reading it at least once a year from now on. The characters were great and I hope the romance will continue in future books.
Rating: Summary: A riviting, accurate book which includes all the nessisitys Review: Patrica Corwell is one of the most interesting and exciting authors that I have ever read. This book contains all the essentails for a great book that will make you think, laugh, cry and overall just feel. It has a intising love story between the two main characters, it has accurate information, it contains a plot which you can really sink your teeth into, and it was written with the exact and glorious expertise that Patricia Cornwell is known for. Overall, this book is definately something worth buying, reading, and learning from.
Rating: Summary: Hornet's Nest Review: While Hornet's Nest may not have the intense drama that Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series has, it does have character development which I feel is missing from the Scarpetta series. Cornwell has created two strong, driven female police officers in a gender reversal as the main male character appears to be the more sensitive and feeling character. She has laid a foundation in Hornet's Nest which will give the reader a better idea for character motivation in following novels. It is nice to see characters that are portrayed in a more human way rather than the caricatures that have populated the Scarpetta novels of late. Good Job Patricia!
Rating: Summary: A tedious non-improvement over Scarpetta Review: Patricia Cornwell tried to write several books all in one--a mystery, a thriller, a romance (sorta?). The constantly changing voice was extremely annoying to me--she has too many characters and her point of view switches practically in mid-paragraph. If this was a first book, it would not have been published without serious editing. The unlikely setting with all women running this urban police department (especially in the south) makes me wonder if it isn't an attempt at satire. There would be no story if the genders were reversed. Some of the minor characters are intriguing and the possibilities for the trio of protagonists are good. I just hope she gives more thought to their relationship(s) in future titles.
Rating: Summary: Life in Charlotte North Carolina Review: I thought that the book was good and that patricia cornwell picked an excellent place to start writing a new series a books. I know that this is the first in the new series and people should really give this book a chance. The police side of a murder is as interesting and exciting as the medical examiner. Read with an open mind!!
Rating: Summary: boring Review: I've been a big fan of Patricia Cornwell and looked forward to this book. I'm part way through and bored to tears. The characters are unlikeable, the story tedious, and I wonder whether to finish it or not. Her Kay Scarpetta books zing along from beginning to end, this one drags from cover to cover. Hope the next one is an improvement.
Rating: Summary: "Garden Party" Redux Review: The reaction of Cornwell fans to "Hornet's Nest" reminds me of the events described in Rick Nelson's song, "Garden Party." No one wanted to read anything new, so they booed Cornwell off the stage. She was probably tired of "living" with Scarpetta, so she wanted a break. I thought it was a nice attempt at something different. The characters were a refreshing change of pace, and they were the main focus of the book. It was certainly more character study than police procedural or forensics procedural. Cornwell passed on what could have been a detailed look at metropolitan police efforts. But maybe that's a longtime reader judging from expectations rather than the pages in front of me. By the late pages of the book, I cared about the characters, and I would read about them again. A disturbing trend by Cornwell to rush to an ending was again present. As a Cornwell reader who has read all her fiction, I am concerned about that in the past few efforts. I found "Hornet's Nest" a nice change of pace that should be judged on its own merits. It was not intended to be a Kay Scarpetta book with different character names pasted in. Try reading it that way.
Rating: Summary: I thought I was alone... Review: I read this book months ago and still have not gotten over it. Cornwell is one of the best crime/mystery writers of our time. I just wish she would have given her fans some warning that she was going to go expirimental on us. I think I'll read it again and see if I understand why she gave this to us. WE WANT KAY!!!!
Rating: Summary: Who really writes Patricia Cornwell's Books Review: There is no way Hornets Nest could be written by the same person who brings us Kay Scarpetta. I couldn't even finish the book and I've read all her others. I figure either her regular editor quit, or her publisher rushed it out and no one actually read it. Thankfully I borrowed it from the library. It really should have a warning label: "This book is an insult to your intelligence."
Rating: Summary: Hornets Nest Stung Where the Sun Dont Shine Review: Patrica Cornwell severely missed the point of Volunteer Police Officers in this tale of Crime and Drama. Surprising since she did such a wonderfull job on all the Kay Skarpetta novels. The main characters, Brazil and Hammer show such incompetence it's a wonder either of them get's their badge pinned un right side up. Hopefully the next Skarpetta novel will bring her back to the basic Police realism we have come to enjoy.
