Rating: Summary: DECEIVING! Review: I don't understand why P. Cornwell has written this book. The subject is not interesting at all and the story makes no sense, at the end you don't have an explanation for the killing. Moreover, sometimes it's badly written. If you have read other books from P.C. you would think the this book was not written by her. The books on Dr. kay Scarpetta were much better and she should go back to her.
Rating: Summary: Better than average police novel. Review: Having read some of the other reviews of this book (after reading the book myself) I was somewhat surprised. I found the characters to be charming and the story engrossing. This was the first Cornwell book I have read and am looking forward to the Scarpetta series and Southern Cross.
Rating: Summary: Not worth finishing Review: I am glad that I am not the only one who hated this book. I read about 1/3 of it and I just couldn't find a reason to keep reading. I, like most of the other reviewers, love the Scarpetta series. I am not thrilled that so many people have revealed that Benton dies. I have not read the last book. Thanks for nothing.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the worst writing Patricia Cornwell has released. Review: Nothing else need be written. If her new book, Southern Cross, (same setting and same characters) is anything like the Nest, we'd better take up a collection for Pat. She's going to need the money.
Rating: Summary: This book completely disappointed me. Review: I bought this book, without even checking to see if it was a Scarpetta novel. That was my mistake, but even so how was I to know that the characters would be unlikeable and completely annoying. I did not make it through half of this book, where I normally read a novel in a couple days. I loved all her other books, and I am sad to say this novel is a total waste of time.
Rating: Summary: If it ain't broke don't fix it!.....Stay with Kay! Review: Do I need say more???
Rating: Summary: Boring, too long, disjointed, undeveloped plot Review: I felt this book was too long - by about 150 pages. The plot was very disjointed, hard to follow and not very well developed. I found too many staements that were incorrect. Worst book of hers I ever read.
Rating: Summary: OK for a change! Review: Since reading my first Cornwell book "Postmortem",I have been a Kay Scarpetta fan - reading every book as soon as it comes out. I knew Hornet's Nest was not a Scarpetta novel, but I thought some new characters might not be bad. I liked West and Hammer and was amused with cutie boy Andy. The plot did seem wander a bit.( Now I'm not really sure what the plot was.) I did like the idea of some humor thrown in though and I am sure Cornwell is going to pursue these characters in Southern Cross which I just purchased. You know, I have a feeling PC is trying to let Kay get over the death of her lover, Benton, and also letting their fans get over it too with the introduction of these new characters. So I'll keep reading all of PC's books and hope for a frantic page turner next time. By the way, THE BODY FARM was my favorite.
Rating: Summary: Not a typical Patricia Cornwell novel Review: I have read some of the reviews of "Hornet's Nest". I too was very disappointed by this recent Cornwell novel. Most people are saying that she should stick with the Scarpetta character. I personally don't care who she writes about, I just want her to write how she did before. It is kind of refreshing to start a whole new set of characters but the writing just wasn't her usual style. There was too many small story lines and no big surprise at the end. I almost put the book down at page 210 but I couldn't make myself do it. I will not buy Southern Cross.
Rating: Summary: absorbing, stylish and intriguing Review: forget scarpetta! this book is a complete departure and i think cornwell might have had more success to publish this one under a pseudonym. i loved the book once i pretended the author was some anonymous talent. The writing is lyrical and the plot progresses with finesse. scarpetta grabs you by the throat, but andy brazil grabs you by the heart. i loved this book, from the quirky characters to the murky subplots. self-acceptance versus self-transformation, the bonds of love, from shame to sex... this book has it all, and the best part is the way the good guys just don't give up. WOW!
