Summary: Action-packed
Review: Elixer has one of the best chase scenes I've read in years. Chris Bacon and family, on the run from everyone from bad-guy drug barons to the U.S. federal government, have to split town at the drop of a dime. As they go, author Braver skillfully weaves in background info revealed for the first time with the actual chase scene, so that the action is tautly suspensful and intellectually interesting. This culminates the carefully built structure of the novel as a whole, which does not neglect the moral implications of the scientific discovery of possible immortality, against death as a defining human consideration, perhaps what keeps us human as we know it. Excellent read.

Summary: Elixir
Review: Perhaps the best novel of the 00's.

A brilliantly conceived and executed story about the human quest for immortality and its impact upon the lives touched by it. The development of the protaganist family in this medical thriller is unsurpassed. Elixir presents and explores a set of unforgettable characters that will have you wondering 6 months from now, "what would I have done given the same circumstances".

Gary Braver is an author not to be missed. I have always shaken my head when discussing how people don't seem to be into reading as much as in past generations. To not experience Elixir makes their loss even greater. Don't borrow this book - buy your own. Believe me, you'll be back for more.

Summary: ELIXIR
Review: The impact of a book on a reader can be measured in days. More specifically, for how many days after completing a book does it continue to invade your thoughts? A good book could easily be two to three days. So far, ELIXER has been seven. I can't wait for the movie.

Summary: Elixir
Review: While looking for a new(to me) techo-oriented adventure author, I discovered Gary Braver (actually Gary Goshgarin). Elixir kept me wanting to know if the strong evil forces would overcome the struggling very human characters in the book. I loved the twists and turns of Elixir. The medical theme always catches me, but it seems his other books (The Stone Circle and Rough Beast) are different. I think I have found another author to keep my interest. Science is ever presenting us with consequences that seem wonderful but can make our lives a living hell. Maybe reading fiction will help keep us aware of the consequences.

Summary: The Ultimate Human Dilemma
Review: Gary Braver's "Elixir" is a fascinating, skillfully crafted, riveting read! You have at your fingertips the power to live indefinitely. Do you use it; do you let time take its natural course? Choice ~~~~ and the evils that inevitably accompany it..... this is the venomous snake-tongued dilemma pervading the novel. Then to conclude on "A shaft of unseen eternity, waiting to thaw" - what an unexpected,thought- provoking twist! Bravo to Gary Braver!! Can't wait for his next book!

Summary: Gary Braver knocks this one out of the park
Review: Elixir is a fast, intelligent read. The story concept may have been tackled before, but he came up with some genuinely fresh ideas. Characters came to life in a really believeable way. I particularly liked some of the family dynamics and the "sister in law." Don't want to give any more away...

But I'm going to check out his other books -

Keep at it, Mr. Braver!

Summary: A Discovery!!
Review: I feel I've discovered a "book treasure." From page one until page 352 I made this journey with the writer. The concept is imaginative yet so believable. One gets to know his characters and is right there with them in their lives. And Gary's writing...he is a master of words. I am very selective in the kinds of fiction I read...Gary Braver's book "Elixir" is one of the best. And, in pursuing his web site, was elated to realize that he has written other books under the name of Gary Goshgarian. I am soooo looking forward to opening the first page of another of his books. Anyone who loves books will know what I mean when I say that finding an author like this is like being able to open a treasure box.

Summary: Elixir
Review: Elixir is a truly fascinating look at the immortality issue and how it impacts one's future and how we should really look at God's plan for our lives. I found this first novel to be one of those books that you just can't put down. It is a real "page turner". The plot line draws you in and makes you think about what you would do in the same position as the characters, who are artfully written, and really believable. All of us can identify in one way or another with the Bacon family and their struggles to stay one step ahead of those who would harm them and exploit the Elixir.

Summary: A reader and writer
Review: I was looking for a great read and I got one. Elixer immediately sucks you in and doesn't let you go until the end. The writing is solid, characters engaging - you can definitely feel their turmoil and pain, and the story is thought-provoking. To age and die or live a long, long time in your prime? Hmmmm. The scientific aspect is well done - enough information to make it believable and gripping, and at the same time not too much as to confuse and bore. This book pulled me in so deeply that I couldn't put it down, and finished it in 3 days. That hasn't happened in a long time! I felt as though I was running alongside the characters as they raced from one life-threatening situation to another. Gary Braver's writing is vivid. One of the best science-horror books I've read. Prepare to enjoy yourself!

Summary: Elixir Thriller Is Wonderful Surprise !
Review: As an Active (voting) member of the Science Fiction Writers of America I have the privilege of receiving word of new books on the market I might otherwise miss. A postcard announcing the publication of ELIXIR by Gary Braver arrived in my mailbox about a month ago. Intrigued with the idea of a drug for eternal youth (who isn't! ) I decided to order a copy. What a wonderful surprise to escape the mundane world of editorial deadlines and publishing meetings within my own life and fall into such an exciting world created by author Gary Braver. When I discovered that Gary Braver is a pseudonym for Gary Goshgarian, I was not surprised at all. I have loved Mr. Goshgarian's other books as well, especially THE STONE CIRCLE and the out-of-print ATLANTIS FIRE (which I was able to get hold of through a rare-book search). I wish the publisher would allow Mr. Goshgarian to use his real name from now on so I become aware of his new works a little sooner!
