Rating: Summary: A suspensful well-plotted vampire thriller. Review: This book was exiting, hard to put down, many fasinating characters and action packed, read it in one sitting. Jade MacGregor is on vacation in Scotland on a tour in an old cemetary when some horrifying and grisley murders occur. No one believes her when she says its vampires. A year later she's home in New Orleans, the same type of murders start in New York and then come to her city. The persons killed are the same people that were on tour with her in Scotland. It appears whoever did these crimes are after her. A mysterious man named Lucian who saved her in Scotland is now stalking her. He's king of the vampires and trying to stop the evil ones from continuing their killing. This story also had a past history of how Lucian became a vampire in 958 AD. It was so well paced and gave the story more character and depth. There's even a selkie in it. A perfect spooky read for a Halloween night in October. I highly recommend this book. I loved Lucian, he was so mysterious and very sensual.
Rating: Summary: do not waste your time or money Review: THIS BOOK WAS THE NEAREST NOTHING I HAVE EVER READ. SHE NEEDS TO TAKE LESSONS ABOUT WRITING VAMPIRE BOOKS FROM MAGGIE SHAYNE OR NANCY GIDEON OR CHRISTINE FEEHAN, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK YET, PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON IT. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ONE.
Rating: Summary: WHEN DARKNESS FALLS Review: This is a Great Book. For all you vamp lovers, this book has it all great secondary characters. This is a 2nd book to a series so you get to visit old friends. There is romance , humor, and of course being a vamp romance lots of neck biting. I was sceptical about reading this book but I have to say I Loved it, Even better than the first book. I would recommend it to readers who love Vamp Romances.
Rating: Summary: Not as Impressive as the First Book but Still Great.... Review: This is the second on the Vampire Series started in 'Beneath a Blood Red Moon'. It started out great and I thought to myself, wow, I might like this one best, but then it sort of fell flat afterwards. Still a great vampire romance, but lacking the excitement and fire the first one had. This one details the 'King of all Vanpires', Lucian. He was introduced in 'Beneath a Blood Red Moon' as Maggie's 'guardian' and mentor. I really enjoyed his role in that book, and thought him having his own story would be excellent, but he was a little...I don't know...boring? All that energy and mystery he had in great abundance in the first one was lost in this one. Maggie makes an appearance in this book and we play catch up with the other characters from that book. The female lead in this book, Jade, was good, she held my interest. Frankly, I found her much more interesting than Lucian. This book was I'll admit a little more scary than the first one and just as violent, which is good, because to make a good vampire book, it wouldn't do to have them all fuzzy and sweet, would it? So if you're squeamish, then take a pass.... Jade MacGregor takes a trip that will burn in her memory for years to come, to beautiful and mysterious Scotland. She embarks on a group tour that leaves her shaken and fleeing Scotland with vague memories of black hair, glowing eyes and blood and lots of it. A year later with her memories still chasing her, she begins to feel that night just one year ago is coming back to haunt her. She survived that gruesome night, now she will have to survive once again before the black night of darkness falls and the creatures come out to play once again... Not as impressive as the first book, but still worthy of the read. Books are in order as follows, 'Beneath a Blood Red Moon', 'When Darkness Falls', 'Deep Midnight' and 'Realm of Shadows'. The fifth book comes out Summer 2003. Tracy Talley~@

Rating: Summary: Excellent installment to the series Review: This is the story of Lucian, the king of the vampires who appeared in Beneath a Blood Red Moon. Lucian is trying to save Jade McGregor from an evil vampire from his past. Jade strongly resembles the wife that Lucian lost to the evil Sophia a millenium ago. He finds himself falling in love with her after she survives a massacre in a cemetery in Edinburgh. When the murderers follow her to New Orleans, so does he. This was an excellent novel. Lucian is much more human in this book and there is plenty of action and great new characters. Love this series.
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Read Review: This was a great read. Lucian stood powerfull from the begining until the end of the story. Lucian's character was simply great. I cannot say the samething about Jade, as a heroine she was weak character in other words no match for Lucian Power and grace. Lucian evethough you find things out about his past he still remained very mysterious until the end. I think jade did not love him enough that is why I was glad when she asked him to be human again he told her no that he was not going to give up what he has become. I thought the story was good eventhough I have to admit that it was confusing at times, but I have to disagree with the person who said it was a waste of money, to me it was worth buying. I liked this story better than Beaneath a blood Red Moon. I gave it four stars because Jade was weak as a heroine and because the endind did not satisfy me. It kind of left things hanging.
Rating: Summary: I hardly made it through Review: This was my first read by Shannon Drake. She needs a new editor; too many typos and loose ends. Also, why did everyone have to speak with such enthusiasm!!!! This book had no depth, the characters had about as much personality as a cardboard box, and the romance was nonexistant. Jade whined the whole way through. She and Lucian acted like they barely knew each other, but used every spare moment to hit the sheets. I have to admit, the consummation scenes were good. There were too many minor characters floating around. The writing was choppy and sometimes hard to follow. I hated this book. If you're looking for a good vampire series, try Linda Lael Miller.
Rating: Summary: Not a very impressive book... Review: This was my first Shannon Drake book, and I have to say I was very disappointed. The characters were not very well developed, the plot was kind of weak and predictable, and if there was any romance in the entire book, I must have dozed through it. I don't consider to virtaul strangers hitting the sheets a few times a "romance". All in all, I would not recommend this book. My biggest regret is that I bought this book and the next one in the series together before reading any of them. I feel like I've wasted my money. If you like vampire romances I highly recommend Linda Lael Miller's series, and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. These are much, much better books that handle the genre with ease, and great storytelling ability from the authors.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: This was the first Shannon Drake novel I ever read and it was great: Mrs. Drake has her own way to write and to handle the subject of vampires, death, mystic and love - her characters are truely intriguing and interesting. I especially enjoyed the way how she incorporated past times/centuries and "how-it-all-begans" into a tight woven story of today. Mrs. Drake (or Mrs. Graham which is her real name) kept me excited all along the line and I found myself unable to put down the book. Once finished I had to get another one ("Beneath a Blood Red Moon") which is actually the prequel of "When Darkness Falls"... it was great, too. All in all I have to say that (now with the third book in this line "Deep Midnight" finished) she made me a fan of her writing. Hopefully there will be more sequels to follow.
