Summary: Only Bugliosi could have won this case
Review: With any other attorney, she would be in jail right now. I still think that she is guilty, but he has a way of changing your mind. The best attorney in the world, hands down. His closing argument should be required study in every law school. This is a great book, but his best is "Outrage". That book IS required study in many Law Schools.

Summary: Could have been as good in 400 pages, but good
Review: This book started off as a typical true crime book of the Ann Rule variety, and ended up being a transcript of hundreds of pages of trial; the latter was a bit dry. Bugliosi does a good job of convincing the reader that his client was completely innocent (so why did he give her a fictitious name in the book?), but I still have my doubts. All in all, it is more a book about his courtroom style than the crime itself. I thought that it could have been 30% shorter if he left out everything that was repeated. But, this was a book about Bugliosi, not Stephanie Stearns (alias Jennifer Jenkins).

Summary: very interesting
Review: I completely agree with H-man and san diego reader's reviews. The beginning is terrific and hard to put down. But Vincent Bugliosi has got to have the largest ego on the planet if he thinks we are interested in every detail of the courtroom scenes. I was literally skipping 40-50 page chunks at the end so I could figure out what happened. I still think it was a great book though and I'm glad he wrote it.

Summary: Starts Strong
Review: The start of the book is riveting. I really enjoy reading about the mystery on the island. I was totally engrossed in it. Then the trial starts... Now I have no doubt that Bugliosi is an excellent lawyer, but his long dawn out trial script is a really though read. It worked in Helter Skelter a lot better then here. But I found both books sort of dragged. But this book is worth getting just for the beginning.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Riveting and Tragic
Review: The first half of the book is one of the best told stories I've read. The second half is complete ego of Bugliosi. Bruce Henderson, the co author and author of a great book Trace Evidence, probably wrote the first half. I almost felt like I was on the island or had met the murdered couple. I was disappointed in Bugliosi's blind faith in his client's innocence. It's as if he did not read the first half himself. All in all, one of my favorite true crime books.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY RIVETING IN EVERY WAY
Review: Although this book is based on one of Bugliosi's actual cases, it is far more riveting and spellbinding than any fiction thriller could ever be. (No doubt many writers of fiction wish they could come up with something this good--I know I do!) Bugliosi is a fine writer and does a wonderful job of characterization as well as weaving a haunting spell of mystery around the events portrayed. I did not agree with Bugliosi that Jennifer was not guilty, but that didn't take away from my overall fascination with the book. A sad book, but one with a haunting end that readers will find hard to forget.

Summary: Grabs you from start to finish!
Review: When I began reading this book, I felt very little fondness or compassion for the "hippie" couple, Jennifer and Buck. However, the story never ceased to hold my interest and kept me wanting to know more about the two couples who unwittingly found each other on this desolute island. By the time Vince Bugliosi took on the case of Jennifer Jenkins, I was spellbound by his inexhaustible and brilliant pursuit of a "not guilty" verdict for this woman who seemed to be as guilty of murder as anyone could be. Yet, by the time he presented his summation at the trial, I was praying that Jennifer would be found innocent because Vincent Bugliosi proved to me, beyond a reasonable doubt, that she was, in fact, innocent. This is one book I will never forget.

Summary: couldn't put it down
Review: this was one of those books that the images come alive and you feel like you are really there.i was also impressed by the proof reading of this book. every word spelled correctly, every comma in it's place.so many books are rushed that i feel like the publisher didn't take the time to correct any mistypes. i'm a vincent bugliosi fan for life now.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Haunting. Best of the best.
Review: I just stumbled on this book, and once I did, I couldn't put it down. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something about the combination of the exotic setting, personalities of the characters, and undertones of evil that just stay in your mind....I agree with other reviewers that, for the most part, the courtroom narrative was overlong, and Jennifer is probably guilty (along with her lover ) but the tale is haunting...among the best of the best.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than John Grisham (and it's true)!
Review: A real page turner. The improbable circumstances leading up to Vincent Bugliosi's involvement in the case are interesting. However, the court room drama is nothing short of riviting. It reads like, but better than, a John Grisham novel. Espicially interesting is the evolution of the summation.
