Rating: Summary: A RIVETING READING OF THE NEW REICHS Review: Versatile is the word for accomplished actress Katharine Borowitz who brings a wealth of film, TV, and stage experience to her book readings. She gives pitch perfect voice to the telling of this spellbinder. Reprising Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist, Kathy Reichs presents her fourth riveting thriller. Once again her story is grounded in authenticity which only serves to validate this shocking tale. When Tempe Brennan hears on her car radio that a plane with 88 passengers is down in the North Carolina mountains, she heads for the scene. That in itself is tragedy enough but missing body parts and cannibalism make Reichs's plot boil. As Tempe sifts through the grisly debris she comes upon a foot that doesn't seem to belong to any of the dead. She pursues this conundrum only to find herself ousted from her job by a conniving politico who has much to hide. To save herself and her reputation Tempe has a major life endangering mystery to solve.
Rating: Summary: WOW - BEST ONE YET Review: I was a little wary after the last one, too far fetched with all the family members involved. But Fatal Voyage had you hooked in the first few pages and never let you go. Way to go Kathy Reichs! Can't wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: Her best one, yet.... Review: This is the fourth book from this author, an internationally recognized forensic anthropologist working out of North Carolina and Montreal. I believe it to be her best one yet. Tempe Brennan, alter ego to the author herself, has been called in to help at the site of an airplane crash. While there, she makes a discovery that somehow seems to upset the apple cart. Tempe gets fired from the crash investigation under a cloud of unsubstantiated charges, and her world-class reputation is in jeopardy. In the process of trying to prove her innocence, she gradually uncovers a dreadful secret that many powerful people would rather she didn't. As her investigation progresses, her reputation no longer remains the only thing in jeopardy. Very well written, though perhaps not for the squeemish! I picked the book up on Saturday and started to read. Before I knew it, I had read two chapters. By the end of the day, I had read twelve. I finished it on Sunday. A real page turner.
Rating: Summary: First Class Suspense Review: I couldn't put the book down. This thriller brings back Tempe doing what she does best. The author takes her time to ensure the reader is fully aware of the environment the character is in without causing the book to drag. She shows us the world of southern "boys clubs", major disaster investigation and manages to squeeze in anatamy 101. Kudos to the author. She has captured the essence of my home state, North Carolina, in an excellent literary thriller.
Rating: Summary: Superb look into the world of forensics! Review: Kathy Reichs has penned a true winner in FATAL VOYAGE. As the author of Strike Hard, I am intrigued by the manner with which other authors manage to captivate and hold their reader's attention. Kathy Reichs has done just that, creating a story that kept me turning page after page in an effort to finish the story without stopping. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense/thrillers, or has any type of interest in Forensic Science. If you fall into either of these categories, you will NOT be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: All I can say is, Wow! Review: Dr. Temperance Brennan is already in North Carolina when a plane goes down in the mountains in the western part of the state. As a forensic anthropologist, Tempe is dispatched to aid in body recovery and identification. In the woods near the crash site, Tempe discovers a human foot, but it can't be part of the crash carnage because this foot obviously belongs to a body dead for some time. As she works on the mystery of the foot as a sideline to her primary duties incident to the plane crash, someone is working behind the scenes to discredit Tempe and manipulate evidence. Does this have anything to do with the working theory that a bomb brought the plane down? And what about the creepy old abandoned mansion deep in the forest where Tempe stumbled upon evidence of a walled-up grave? Why has she been forbidden by her superiors to return there? This book has it all -- mysteries within mysteries, superior suspense, and top-notch character and plot development. Oh, yeah, and a great new pet for Tempe -- Boyd the dog. For my money, this is THE best Temperance Brennan novel to date. Be warned -- the denouement when it is finally revealed is so startling, so unanticipated, so out there, and so very weird that it will throw you for a complete loop.
Rating: Summary: Pulse-pounding page-turner. Review: Written with world-class elegance, prose and layered with pulse-pounding storytelling in a tour de force of a page-turner. A rich, complicated and deeply involving mystery, as the author keeps rising the bar and is at the top of her game again with this fourth forensic thriller. If you like thrillers there are few and far between on the likes of this caliber and deeply moving content. The author as well as the book is in a class by itself. FinancialNeeds.com
Rating: Summary: Footloose and Free of Delicacy Review: A DISEMBODIED FOOT NOT belonging to any of the passengers or crew of a crashed plane is one of the puzzles in Kathy Reichs's new forensic anthropologist novel. Again, Temperance Brennan is on the job. She hears about the crash over her car radio while driving in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, and speeds to the scene. 'Wreckage and body parts covered the landscape like refuse discarded at a dump.' All passengers lie dead in bits and pieces, excepting two unaccounted-for people. Where are the bodies of the criminal under police escort, and the accompanying officer? Arriving later on the scene is Montreal detective Andrew Ryan. He is Temperance's on-again-off-again boyfriend, who, readers will be happy to note, is more on than off this time around. During investigations, Temperance takes a stubborn stand. She wants to thoroughly investigate the singular incidence of the extra foot. This leads her to a sinister-looking hunting lodge, not far from the plane's wreckage. North Carolina's Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT,) mobilized to investigate the tragic accident - or is it an accident? dumps Temperance from the investigation. The State's influential Lieutenant-Governor Parker Davenport runs interference against Temperance, and pays unhealthy attention to her activities. There are many exciting episodes. I won't reveal why everyone's hand shakes with fear as they enter the basement of the Arthur house. Fatal Voyage is Kathy Reichs's fourth book. Its continuing adventures are believable because the author's occupation in Quebec and North Carolina is the same as that of her protagonist. It is a gruesome job, that without delicacy she describes in gory detail. This is the best entry in the series.
Rating: Summary: A MUST read! Review: Tempe Brennan hears the news of a devastating plane crash, and the on the way to the site, she tries to prepare herself for the carnage. Upon arriving, Tempe finds out there were 82 passengers on the plane, no survivors, but that's the not the worst part...the plane was carrying the UGA soccer teams! This accident becomes personal for Tempe, for her daughter Katy has a friend at the University of Georgia whom she often visits. As Tempe sifts through the unrecognizable bodies, she wonders if one of them can be that of her daughter, if not, then why hasn't Katy returned any of her phone calls? As Tempe joins the investigation, she is racked with questions, and demands explanations. Was the plane brought down by a bomb? Was it mechanical failure? Who was the prisoner on the plane being extradited to Canada? And, what about the foot found in a near by field? After examination of the foot, Tempe makes the analysis it could not have come from any of the passengers on the plane. Further still, Tempe makes the shocking discover of even more evidence buried in a mountain enclave. Tempe is left with two questions, what secrets are left hidden in the mountains, and why are people trying to stop her investigation? With the help of her friend, Montreal detective Andrew Ryan, Tempe must get her answers quickly and carefully, because the closer she gets to uncovering the truth, the closer she gets to death. 'Final Voyage' is the perfect beach page-turner. The plot begins to boil early on, and never lets up. The suspense builds, as Tempe starts her investigation, as well as dealing with personal matters. Tempe, and Andrew are like old friends, and it's good to see them back in action in this wonderful new novel. Kathy Reichs has been compared to Patricia Cornwell, but those days are over, because she has surpassed Ms. Cornwell with her fleshed out characters, lightning fast pacing, and razor sharp plotting. Fans of forensic thrillers will devour this in one sitting. A major blockbuster! Nick Gonnella
