Summary: Perry Sachs returns!
Review: Alton introduced the character of Perry Sachs in "A Treasure Deep", one of his best novels. Now Perry returns with another excavation--but this time the climate isn't quite as cooperative! Something has been found under the Antartic ice, and it could mean trouble! Just like "Treasure", the mystery continues to unfold about what's down there until they reach it. Again, we see the clues that keep us off balance and unsure of what they've truly found until well into the book. The elements for a great story are here, and I welcome the return of Perry Sachs and his crew.

There is the added element of a possible assassin being in the group. This is used to build a good amount of tension, and I liked the way the suspicion flowed around them. The action starts strong and really never slows down. Every time you think you can relax, something unexpected happens. This one moves along at a better pace than his last novel. I hope we see Perry and his crew return soon. My advice: drop the JD Stanton series for a little while and do more stories with Perry. Better yet, have them meet up and put them both in one novel. What a story that would be!

Pick this one up. You'll enjoy it. Recommended.

Summary: Probably his best yet!
Review: Even I was surprised at how good Beneath the Ice was, and I'm a great fan of all Gansky's novels. I've read a lot of arctic adventure stories--this is right at the top. Some avid readers of techno-thrillers who like authors like Rollins or Reilly, don't give Gansky a try because he is a minister who weaves Christianity through his books. This is a shame, because he tells a great story with plenty of technical detail, great characterization, and a compelling plot. As a Catholic, I think the Christian aspect of his writing is a big plus...but I still think his books are for anyone and everyone. The character of Perry Sachs is a winner. I hope Gansky writes more of these, and expect that he will. Beneath the ice just might be Gansky's best book. The action never stops...there are no loose ends...the ending is very satisfying. What more could you want?

Summary: I'm really enjoying this book and would give it 5 stars...
Review: except for the irritating inconsistancies and inaccuracies in the author's descriptions of the aircraft used in the story. Granted, these would go unnoticed by many readers but I am an avid aviation enthusiast (some would say "nut") and these things bother me and show a lack of technical research done by the writer. Specifically, he mentions the C-5 Galaxy cargo plane numerous times. For one thing he describes it as being ski-equipped for landing on the ice. First, no C-5 I'm aware of has ever been equipped with skis. I have seen pictures of real ones having landed on the Antarctic ice and they use their wheels. Besides the stuctural and aerodynamic complications of equipping such a huge aircraft with skis, imagine the results of landing on a conventional runway when it returned to it's base! Even worse, several times in the book he describes the C-5 as being propeller driven! That is inexcusable. OK, many reading this will think I'm being picky, and you may be right, but the little things are what seperate a good book from an excellent book.

That rant aside, I will admit that I am a big fan of Gansky's books and this is definitly a page turner. Highly recommended!

Summary: The Best in Thrills and Chills!
Review: If you've read Gansky before, you know he has a great imagination and the ability to tell a gripping story. This, however, is Gansky at a whole new level.

When Perry Sachs, engineer/archaelogist, takes a team to Antartica, he discovers secrets beyond his initial expectations. Although he is aware of something lurking beneath the ice, he is unaware of its full impact or of the forces intent upon reaching it. Soon, Sachs and his team are hostages in a deadly game--hostage to the elements, to the evil of a secretive society, and to the truth of a artifact hidden for thousands of years.

"Beneath the Ice" conveys the same realistic atmosphere of classic thrillers such as Alistair MacLean's "Ice Station Zebra," while mixing in the bizarre twists of Dan Brown's "The DaVinci Code," and Jeff Long's "Year Zero." Gansky employs minimal, but believable, character development. His climax fails to serve justice in any fashion to the antagonists, but the book still ranks easily as one of the best Christian thrillers out there.

Review: Story is interesting but not mind blowing. Still, worth a look.

Summary: A building is discovered under the ice in Antartica......
Review: This is first book I have read by Alton Gansky, but based on how much I enjoyed this one it will not be the last. I picked it up to use some time on an airplane flight recently and was so captured by the story I quickly finished it from home.

The book starts with a discovery of a building under thousands of feet of ice in Antarctica, which was just a coincidence given that the research team was there to try and understand why an underground (under ice?) lake was expanding. So, from the outset you are wondering which direction the book would take? Global warming? UFO discovery? Scientific exploration?

I will not spoil the plot further by giving away the story, but suffice it to say that you will enjoy the book. The main characters are depicted with some depth to give the story realism and the action and suspense never stop. By combining ancient religious beliefs, modern technology and discovery into secret societies and infiltration all the way to the White House, it has all the makings of a great mystery thriller. You can't ask for more than that. Well written, and enjoyable. When is the movie coming?
