Summary: A great continuation to "The Third Victim"!
Review: For those of us who truly enjoyed "The Third Victim," and its heroine, the somewhat acidic Rainie Connor, she's back in "The Third Victim," Now an ex-Officer who has opened up her own private investigation agency, and whose relationship with FBI profiler Pierce Quincey has floundered and ground to a halt, Connor finds herself once more entangled with Quincey when someone with a grudge starts to aim at Quincey and his family.

While the romantic entanglement with Quincey and Connor is interesting and plausible, I have to admit the real love in this book, for me, is Connor herself. She's a heroine that's missing from most novels these days: strong without being ridiculous or cold, with her own set of neuroses and troubles and problems that make her as human as the next.

The story itself has a frantic pace, for the full first half of the book I didn't know who was the next victim, who was entangled with the killer, who the killer was - all signs of the best kind of thriller: one that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. I loved reading this book.

Once the killers identity is uncovered, however, things fizzle a little. I found that the killer was a bit over-the-top at points, and sometimes I wondered at the lack of insight in the other characters (while it is posed that the killer is pretty much a genius at appearing as he wishes to appear, he also states he gives all his victims a sporting chance with slight clues and faults in his disguises, for example: so how come no one figures him out?). That said, the story as a whole had me hooked, the characters of both Ronnie and Quincy's daughter were quite a good duet, and I'll happily grab onto the next Ronnie/Quincey book that (hopefully) comes along!

Summary: The reader is forgotten in this book
Review: Former police officer Rainie Conner and FBI profiler Pierce Quincy are back in this sequel to last year's The Third Victim. In the previous novel we learn that Quincy's daughter, Amanda, is in a coma after a car accident. The circumstances involved in the accident are explained in the first chapter of the book. There is someone with a vendetta against Quincy and he is going to destroy anyone close to him. He manipulated the situation to cause her daughter to die in the car accident and he is planning for his next victim. Quincy is not convinced with the accident ruling and hires Rainie Conner who is now working as a private investigator. She works together with Quincy trying to save his surviving daughter, Kimberly.

The story is predictable, character development is weak, and the killer's victims should have worn a bull's eye on their foreheads. The reader knows which characters are going to die and the author just drags it on and on until the the merciful release is done. Here is an example. There is a conspiracy involved in the Quincy vendetta and one of them is this girl. She calls the conspirator who tells her that she is being watched by a private investigator hired by Rainie. She asks what should she do and he tells her not to worry. He is going to messenger her some chocolates for her to offer the investigator. 'Just sit down with him, tell him you know what he is doing and offer him a chocolate. If he does not take one make sure you eat one of the chocolates'. 'Are they poisoned?' she asks. 'Of course not!' he says. Suffice it to say she believes him and you can guess what happens next.

If you want to read a better novel with a similar plot device try Dennis Lehane's PRAYERS FOR RAIN. The mastermind is much cleverer than the one in this book. He does not insult the reader's intelligence, something Ms. Gardner might not be aware that she is doing. THE THIRD VICTIM is her better work.

Summary: One by one, his family is being brutally taken away from
Review: him and FBI profiler Quincy's world is turned up-side down.

When his daughter Mandy is killed in an inexplicable auto accident, he begins to harbor suspicions as to the validlty of the word 'accident', and the thoughts of who and why anyone would want to do this, become daily nagging questions.

Nearly a year later when Mandy is taken off life support and succumbs, he hires Rainie Conner, a budding Private Eye whom he has known from the past. But the past must recede and the present take precedence, in order for them to work together and they strive to do just that.

When the second unnervingly intimate murder takes place and the killer steals Quincy's identity, the FBI places Quincy at the top of it's list of suspects and Quincy's world begins to fall apart.

He must protect his only remaining daughter, Kimberly..he must clear his name....he must find out who this feindish destroyer of lives is. In his mind constantly is the thought that the killer knows his family so well. It is as if the maniac is asking them in turn "What do you need? What do you desire?"
and then "But I already know and I will weave my web and capture you, satisfy your wants, gain your trust and kill you!!"

So far he has suceeded in doing just that.

I truly believe the reader will find this an intriguing, mind-grasping thriller...one not easily forgotten..one that will give the avid reader of mysteries and mayhem an experience that will stay with them for a long, long time.

This young novelist is a master of detail and procedures, weaving the private lives of her characters subtly and inobtrusively into the plot.

I believe it is best to read THE NEXT ACCIDENT in one sitting because it will just haunt you if you don't! Enjoy!

Summary: Great book!
Review: I almost rated this book 3 stars because I didn't care too much for the main character, Rainie. But despite that, this book is pretty good. It's a fast-paced (90% of the time) read, and I liked the ending. I was surprised who the killer was. I recommend it!

Summary: GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I have been looking for an author that could match Tami Hoag and I have found her! This book is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. I stayed up all night to finish it. I have read all of Lisa Gardner's books and I find this one to be the best. Before you read this book you have to read the first one in the series which is "The Third Victim." At first I was disapointed about The Third Victim because I'm not one on series(I have no patience)but when I heard that another of her books was coming out so quickly I decided to give it another try. Boy was I happy that I decided that.
The book is about FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy and how he's having doubts about his late daughters death which was considered an accident. He comes to Rainie Conner who was the main character in The Third Victim, and asks her to look into the case. Things start to unravel from there. There is someone out to stalk and kill all of the woman in Pierce's life and he has to find and stop this person before the woman become the next victim. If you are a fan of Tami Hoag I promise that you will not be disapointed. I can't wait for Lisa Gardner's next book "The Survivors Club." I'm actually hoping that a certain character from "The Next Accident" will be in the book.*If you don't already know, I have just found out that Lisa Gardner has written several romance books under the name Alicia Scott*

Summary: Edge-of-your-seat suspense...and romance to boot!
Review: I have read and loved all of Lisa Gardner's books so far, and THE NEXT ACCIDENT is no exception. This one had me biting my nails and staying up well past my bedtime to find out what was going to happen next. A very satisfying ending and I loved finding out how Rainie and Quincy (also in THE THIRD VICTIM) ended up. Kudos, Ms. Gardner! I'll be anxiously awaiting your next release.

Summary: Where is the Editor???
Review: I have some of Lisa Gardner's books. Although the stories are ok (good reads, some good suspense, but most of them fail somehow at the end), every single one of them has the worst grammatical and punctuation errors I've even seen in a book. It makes the sentences annoying to read, especially because the punctuation is in the wrong places or where it doesn't belong at all. Maybe the writer is bad at this, but why in the world wouldn't the editor catch the errors??? Isn't that one of the things the editor's for? Perhaps this is the "dumming down of America", and the editor doesn't even know it's wrong. Scary.

It's not that I'm simply a stickler for good punctuation and grammar; I find Gardner's sentences difficult to follow because of her errors. Lisa - - do yourself a favor and find a new editor. That, and beefing up your endings, will do wonders for the quality of your work.
