Rating: Summary: Sue Grafton is Great Review: As a result of this book I read the other fourteen. Now I'm waiting for the next one. Ms Grafton appeals to almost everybody, she's not a "womans author" I know lots of men who wait for the next book.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: Finished my way through all of the Kinsey stories for now, and 'O' left me on a good end. I enjoyed the non-regulation (ie, no client for Kinsey) plotline, and personally enjoyed watching her track down and try and right the wrong she'd felt she'd made. The story was fast-paced and, I found at the end, satisfying. A good addition. I don't know how I'll wait for 'P'!
Rating: Summary: Another winner in the alphabet of crime Review: I discovered Sue Grafton in 1995. I have read all of her books and recommend that readers do the same to see how Kinsey develops from A to O.I have written to her and am on her mailing list for personal appearances and advance notices of new books. Sue is a great example of how to treat her readers. She respects us! What I love about her books is that there are a few sentences to tell you about Kinsey in each book. Even though you may have missed the other books, it doesn't take you long to learn about her. I love the idea that she has one black dress, has a neat apartment, nice landlord, etc. Her awful junk food choices washed down by a glass of Chardonnay are wonderful! She's the perfect person with one dress and a VW. I hope that Sue does not bring her up to date with cell phones, etc too soon. I've learned some great investigative tips from her. It's amazing what people will tell you over the phone when you play dumb or are less than truthful. No real crime here. Just a fact-finding mission. O for Outlaw was a good read. I didn't pick up who was the bad guy until late in story. Great ending as always. The little bits of info she puts in lead to a surprise ending. You think, "How did I miss that clue?" How can one say seriously, I'm awaiting "P"? What will that stand for?
Rating: Summary: Good - not great Review: But even a 'not great" Kinsey Milhone story is better than most others. I felt the story was rushed - and some things didn't mesh with the time period, e.g., making the comment about liposution (don't think there was too much liposuction going on in the 70's). This book is easy to read and if you're a true Kinsey lover, you won't be too disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Kinsey Millhone...You gotta love her Review: Sue Grafton continues her alphabet series with a mystery Kinsey Millhone fans will love. This story takes you back to Kinsey's first marriage and there's nothing a true Millhone groupie loves more than to find out about her past. The case revolves around a 15 year old murder that her then cop husband, Mickey, was charged with, but never convicted of, at trial. The story is fast-paced, full of witty and irreverent dialogue and Kinsey idiosyncrasies. As always, a lot of fun to read and sad to finish, knowing you'll have to wait another year for the next one.
Rating: Summary: O Is for Outlaw Review: I think Sue Grafton's books are terrrific! As far as I can see, so do a lot of other people. "O" Is for Outlaw is great. I recommend it highly! It's great following a character from one book to another. Not too long ago I read the first three complete novels in the alphabet series, "A" is for Alibi, "B" is for Burglar, and "C" is for Corpse. It was great seeing how Kinsey's character started in the first novel and how she has evolved in the other novels. I'm catching up on some of the other ones that I missed. I got hooked on Sue Grafton with "J". Sue, keep up the good work, or should I say, the "good writing"! I'll keep reading them!
Rating: Summary: More fun and terror from Grafton Review: Really liked it. Does anyone know what book Grafton is referring to when she writes abt the book that explains lipstick shapes? I recenly bought LIPSTICK by Jessica Pallingston on Amazon.com, where lipstick shapes and what yr lipstick shape says about you are described. Is this the book she's referring to? Does anyone know? Sue, are you out there? A good read, and fun-- I have to say, this lipstick book moment had my interest peaked!
Rating: Summary: No plot and lots of padding Review: This is the first Sue Grafton book that I have read and it will be the last. I picked it up hoping for a light and entertaining holiday read. Well it is certainly on the light side. It starts off okay but the plot never develops beyond the obvious. To make up for this the author frequently describes in minute detail the surroundings. This generally has nothing to do with the either the plot or the characterisation, and I was often left wondering just what a particular passage had to do with the story. As a comparison, novels by Dick Francis are both far more entertaining and informative.
Rating: Summary: Style over plot, fortunately Review: Is it really necessary to add another comment ? Probably not, but I feel I owe Sue Grafton a personal contribution. I thank her for giving her readers, with astonishing regularity, consistently excellent novels. I am only very distantly interested in crime stories and in detective plots. Writing style and ambience-rendering are much more important to me. I believe that Sue Grafton may actually share this view. What fascinates me in her writings (I have read the whole lot, A to O) is the minute descriptions, as well as the keen observation and the superb, no-nonsense, style. The plot is there only to sustain the literary creation. I wish also to add that each latest book of her that I read seems the best to me, which, not quite explicably, is most probably another proof that she is a jolly good writer.
Rating: Summary: Are You Interested in a Predictable and Boring Mystery? Review: Are you interested in a predictable and boring mystery? Well if you are, "O is For Outlaw" is not the book for you. It's the 15th book in Sue Grafton's alphabet series and is probably the best one so far. You'll sit on the edge of your seat as Kinsey, the main character throughout the whole series, comes across yet another mystery, only this one hits close to home. Her ex-husband clings to life after being shot and two detectives come knocking on her door, making accusations: suggesting that she was the shooter. As she tries to prove her innocence, her past comes back to haunt her and she starts to question her judgement. Will she come up with evidence she needs or will her ex-husband die before she can learn the truth? I found myself up half the night not wanting to put the book down. I think that it's jam-packed with details and excitement. Are you interested in an exciting, fun, heart-racing mystery? Well if you are, then this is the book for you.
