Kinsey Milllhone is hired to find the elderly mother of her client and bring her back to Santa Theresa, which she manages to do. But not before she is run off the road, shot at, and left to die in an irrigation ditch all at the hands of a hired assassin. Because. . .well, we aren't exactly sure. If that isn't enough, Kinsey uncovers a sinister plot of a room and board owner for the gain of . . .not really sure of that either, sure doesn't look like he got a lot out of it. All in all "Gumshoe" was an entertaining roller coaster ride through the all too dangerous life of our favorite private detective. If you are looking for an escape from the day to day monotony and want some no-brain entertainment, go ahead, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for an intellectual and suspenseful thriller, I recommend you try Patricia Cornwell's "From Potter's Field".
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This was my first "Kinsey" book. . . Review: . . .and I was hooked the minute I read about the loving care her landlord Henry put into rebuilding her apartment after it had been blown away during a previous case. On it went through her trip to another town and a sleepless night in a "no-tell motel" thanks to some very amorous neighbors in the next room. To be honest, the mystery took a back seat to all the human-interest detailing here--and especially the relationship between Kinsey and her bodyguard. I'm rooting for them to find one another at the end of the alphabet, if you know what I mean. . .
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of Grafton's best Review: Best of the series from A through G. Grafton's writing has matured in this engrossing mystery, and if you're a fan of the series, don't miss this one.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A really good one from Kinsey stock Review: Good plot, more of Kinsey's character, and mercifully, the two main threads are not connected. Dietz is a good character - worth a few novels of his own, maybe?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An excellent introduction to Kinsey Review: I am usually a stickler for reading series books in chronological order. An exception is in order for this book. I'm up to M in this series, and I'd say that G IS FOR GUMSHOE is probably my favorite so far. It is an excellent introduction to Kinsey Millhone, and it is far better than A IS FOR ALIBI. So if you haven't read any and are looking for a good place to start, this is it!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another great mystery from Grafton. Review: I find myself writing the same things over and over about the books in this series, but Grafton is so consistently top-notch that it's hard to think of new superlatives. Kinsey is a great character--complex, tough, practical, nosy--and Grafton stays true to that character in all her books.Kinsey's not just solving a mystery in this one, she's also trying to outwit the hit man on her tail. To this end, she teams up with another P.I. to act as her bodyguard. This innovative twist adds just the right amount of suspense to this book, and the ending--to both the mystery and the hit man scenario--is definitely a kicker. Whether this is your first Kinsey Millhone book or you're a fan of the entire series (there's a nice emotional payoff for Kinsey fans in this one, as Kinsey finally meets a man worthy of her), this one is a must-read. Enjoy!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Suspense was good, ending not so good Review: I have always liked the Kinsey Millhone books because they pull you in and keep you rivited. The endings need work.
Kinsey hooks up with another PI who is sent to protect her from a hit man. In the mean-time, she is trying to find an old lady and then trying to find out why she dies.
I have read some of the reviews here. I liked the combination of the 2 stories. AND I didn't think the ending was too abrupt. I just didn't like it.
Not much more to say about this one. I just hope with all the books Grafton has churned out, that I see some improvement.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: G is for Great Review: I have read A through G now and really enjoy this series. in this book, our hero Kinsey experiences three major events: her apartment is finished being rebuilt after the bomb went off in it, she is hired in a missing persons case, and a contract is taken out to kill her by an ex-con. Grafton does an excellent job developing the two concurrently running plots and cases in her usual writing style. I can't wait to start H later on tonight.
