Summary: Belongs on a "List of 7" perfect vacation books...
Review: If you haven't read Conan Doyle, you'll love this novel anyway. It's full of non-stop adventure, twists and turns, bigger than life characters, mysticism, and all out fun. If you HAVE read Conan Doyle, it's even more fun (if that's possible). Here Frost gives us the 'prototypes' for all the main characters that appear in the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, and it's a delight to recognize them in their other guises. For complete and total escapist fun, this is the book to take on vacation this, or any other, summer.

Summary: Loved it
Review: They way to enjoy this book is to not take it to seriously and just look at it as pure entertainment. I was enthralled by the pacing and the plot twists in this book if you like Sherlock Holmes you will love this.

Summary: Even Better Than Expected
Review: Drawn to this book by Frost's work on Twin Peaks, I expected nothing more than an above average novel. It is, however, far above average. A story dealing with murder, mystery, adventure, and the occult, The List of 7 is an excellent read. The story is long, intricate, and complex, but not to the point that you don't follow what's going on. The book has very few slow points-there is a constant sense of motion throughout. The characters are intriguing, although it was less than necessary to use Arthur Conan Doyle as a character in my opinion (another historical character in the novel's epilogue is also welcome, but again unnecessary). Frost's style is very vivid, easily painting a detailed picture in the reader's mind, without being overbearing. While reading it, I couldn't help but think how wonderful a screenplay of it would be. All in all, I recommend this book to fans of Twin Peaks, Sherlock Holmes, or those of you who are just suckers for fast paced mystery/adventure novels.

Summary: A very silly book, but entertaining enough to finish
Review: I have very mixed feelings about this book. I have to say that the pacing was excellent and that it is a fun adventure book. However, the characterizations are overwhelmingly absurd. Ever character in the book is a ridiculous aberation. One or two peculiar characters in a book, I can tolerate, but when every character in a book is either bizare or a lunatic, credibility starts to stretch. The gimmick of using Arthur Conan Doyle as one of the main characters was also quite annoying to me, because the book could easily have been done without this. I did finish the book, but I was pretty unsatisfied, and I'll probably be ditching it at the used bookstore sometime soon.

Summary: A.C. Doyle would be proud!
Review: Quite simply, the best adventure story I have ever read. Frost's intent wasn't to usurp the Sherlock Holmes concept, but to add credence and excitement to Doyle's own life. Frost definitely achieved success. The List of Seven will keep you turning pages until the wee hours of the morning. If you're looking for Sherlock Holmes-type intrigue, coupled with adrenaline-pumping excitement, then this is the book for you. Truly a first-rate, enjoyable and fun read!

Summary: Not So Elementary,Dear Reader!
Review: Mark Frost whips up a brilliant novel that blurs the lines between,Fantasy,Reality, and Spirituality! In a wonderful twist....we are given the adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle! While investigating Spiritual Mediums,Arthur runs across"The List of 7",and the hunt is on! We meet Queen Victoria's most trusted under cover agent,Jack Sparks, who's feats inspire Doyle to create Sherlock Holmes. We also meet others whom will inhabit Doyles works as well as the inspirations for :Prof.Moriarty,Inspector Lestrade,Mycroft Holmes, and many more.Doyle & Sparks survive many mini-adventures,which all give a sly wink to many Holmes stories! Also peppering this landscape, many historical figures, such as spiritualist Madam Helena Blavatski, and Bram Stoker! The historical accuracies are cleverly woven into the fantasies. This book is a page turner, you just can't put down! Did I mention there's a love story too? (No...Sparks/Holmes does not turn character and fall in love....it's his Watson whom does.) If you were a fan of Twin Peaks, the more well written episodes, see how much more there is to Mark Frost! If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes... this is pure gold....no attempts to write a "new" Sherlock Holmes story...but an amazing look at what might have inspired them! Buy it now! (And....there's a follow up novel: "The 6 Messiahs".)

Summary: Roll Over, Doyle..
Review: ...Mark Frost is here! I never thought that anyone could master the delight and mystery of the Sherlock Holmes works aside from Doyle himself, but Frost has been a happy surprise. I bought the book on a whim and ended up a slave to it for nearly two days of non-stop reading. It is common speculation that perhaps Doyle based the character of Holmes on a living individual, and Frost has pounced upon the idea and proceeded to tango. The deep plot of the book is reminiscent of the later and more fanciful Holmes stories, drawing on imagination as well as history to pull together the characters. Frost has gone so far as to recreate Doyle himself in the book, sending him off on a dark 'quest' with a mysterious English agent. The book pulled me in, bound me up in chains and absolutely refused to let me put it down.. exactly the sort of book I'm fond of.

Summary: Can't be topped!
Review: Some may argue that paperback fiction novels are merely "candy for the mind" and that Literature is what we should be reading. Well, have I got something to tell you: THIS IS LITERATURE! Frost is such a talented writer: his words are luscious and so dead-on, and his dialogue is astonishing. This is fiction with SOMETHING TO SAY. It will delight, amaze, and enlighten. Read it. That's all I've got to say.

Summary: Is America Crazy?
Review: If you haven't read this book something is really wrong in your world. There is no better reason to stop what you are doing and read than Mark Frost- this is what storytelling is all about. I've read this book 3 times and catch new things each time around. It's the perfect blend of who-dun-it and supernatural thiller. The characters are engaging and Frost himself is brilliant in his plotline, dialouge, and descriptive action scenes. Why isn't this a movie? Because they just wouldn't be able to do it justice. This is by far my favorite novel ever. His sequel 'The 6 Messiahs' is in my top five.
