Summary: One of Carolyn Haines' best works
Review: "Them Bones" introduces fans of southern writer Carolyn Haines to yet another side of this multi-dimensional talent. The book is set in the Mississippi Delta among the Daddy's Girls who are bred there. The main character, Sarah Booth Delaney, turns into a private investigator in order to hang on to the property that has been in her family for generations. Delaney is a charming concoction of Daddy's Girl with a splash of '90s grit, but Haines' best literary invention is the character of Jitty, the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny. This tale is made-to-order for a winter's evening of good reading!

Summary: If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum...
Review: ...you'll like Sarah Booth Delaney. She does for Mississippi sleuthing what Stephanie does for New Jersey.

A good fun read!

Summary: Mystery is a new direction for me--sort of
Review: Although most of my previous books were more serious, I've always been an avid mystery reader, and I've been accused of being a closet stand-up commedian. In THEM BONES, I get to explore the complexities of a mystery plot and write about what I love, the South and people with a good sense of humor. I've just finished the second book in the series, and I find it hard to shake myself out of Zinnia, Mississippi and fulfill the obligations of my small farm and various demanding animals. But in the second book Sarah Booth gets saddled with a dog (as everyone should!). I hope readers have as much fun with this book as I did writing it.

Summary: A Delightful romp through the Delta
Review: Carolyn Haines can "turn a phrase". She also has that wonderful Southern voice for humor, sacrasm, creating REAL people, and keeping the reader up all night trying to find out what happens next. This is Haines at her best, and she's very good.

Summary: A delightful read!
Review: Having read a number of Carolyn Haines's books, I expected to like this one-- but I didn't expect to like it so much! I was drawn in by the totally human characters. The mystery kept me guessing, and didn't play out like so many that come to a connived conclusion. Just loved this book, now to get the next!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I am a reader. I read at least three books a week and you can imagine what a joy it is for me to find something new and refreshing in a book! Especially a mystery! The characters are wonderful, and so is Jitty, the ghost, who has a knack for annoying, being helpful, entertaining, and coming up with the right idea when needed. She is also quite a snappy dresser! I laughed outloud several times. The bonus was, I did not figure out 'who dunnit' right away. An all around great book. I just orded the second mystery, 'Buried Bones' and I do not believe I will be disapointed.

Summary: Not just a silly ghost story
Review: I decided to try this series based on the reviews of other readers and am glad I did. I too thought this might turn out to be another attempt at the zany humor so many try, but few accomplish (Janet Evanovich and Nancy Bartholomew being the few exceptions). The conversations between Jitty and Sarah Booth are funny at times, but what I like the most is being able to not only feel Sarah Booth's love for her home, which goes deeper than just a place to live, but also that there probably really is a Zinnia with people just like that. I read someone comparing Sarah Booth to Sharon McCone and, I agree -- a softer cousin maybe. The second in the series is just as good and I'm looking forward to reading the 3rd.

Review: I picked this book on a whim based on the cover. Was I surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It had some nice suspense and had me laughing at the characters. Can't wait to get the next book by this authoress.
