Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Average thriller
Review: This author won an award for her short stories; they must be better than this somewhat lame and poorly thought out suspense novel. As other readers have said, the romance adds nothing to the plot or character development and is therefore pointless. The writing style is psuedo-arty but kind of annoying generally. I don't think a comparison to Thomas Harris is deserved because there is nothing exceptonal here (except the occasionally awkward prose style).

Summary: Good story, but...
Review: The story is definitely interesting but I never quite got to liking the characters. Or understanding them...The settings are bleak and the romantic relationship just isn't... I had to force myself to finish the book.

Summary: This is the best book I've read all summer
Review: Darkness Peering is one of those rare books that engrosses you with sumptious writing and brilliant plot twists. I dare anyone to guess the ending to this one-you won't.

Summary: Up there with Silence of the Lambs--amazing, scary book.
Review: This beautifully written, terrifying book is one of the best thrillers I've ever read. If you're looking for rich characterizations, searing insights into human nature and seat-of-your pants shocks, this is the book for you.

I hope some producer out there realizes what a great film this would make. Listen up Hollywood.

Summary: Holy Crow, what a book!
Review: Not since reading some of the darker chapters of The Triumph and the Glory have I come across a novel that makes my skin tingle with fear. I found Darkness Peering to be peerless (ha ha), a terrifying tour de force. It ranks up there on my list with The Shining, Hitchcock's scariest films, and The Blair Witch Project for generating numbing tension. Alice Blanchard has really written a good one.

Summary: Very good read. Couldn't put it down.
Review: Enjoyed this book not only for the story but also for the richly written characters. It's as if the author paints the story with a fine detail brush. Leaves you thinking about the loss and disconnection that most of us have felt at some time in our life. Not a typical "who done it".

Summary: Didn't enjoy the Read
Review: The story begins very well and has an interesting plot of dad the cop realizing his son has committed a murder. Once we move into the present the story loses all its momentum. Her descriptions go on ad nauseam. The love story is contrived and has absolutley no bearing on the story and is not very believable. The cop confronting the most viable suspect alone, leaving a potential victom alone, and then chasing the suspect into the woods alone leads me to believe she is either the worst or dumbest cop on the planet and makes the story even less believable. The book did make me appreciate some of the very good books I have read in the last 18 months, so at least it has that going for it.

Summary: Can hardly wait for her next, I'm hooked, she has a fan.
Review: Alice Blanchard has written one of the best mystery novels I have read this year. A complete surprise as I hadn't even read a review of this book. Her characters are real, her prose, and I have to call it prose puts you, the reader, right there in the woods, or trailing the killer. I guess 9 out of 10 times the "bad guy". This one I didn't have a clue. Thank you for a really good read, Ms Blanchard. Hope you are working on the next one.

Summary: A good mystery, and a quick read that leaves you thinking
Review: I liked this book verry much. I haven't read a mystery in a long time that totally suprises me, including this book. I didn't guess who done it, but it seemed that I've read books like it before. None the less it was a quick and very entertaining book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Magnificent Suspence Novel. It will keep you up at night!
Review: I waited for this book for over a month and boy, was it worth the wait! The suspense and horror kept me up most nights. I'm still reading the book and I'm loving every page of it!
