Summary: Fantastic!
Review: This is a great mystery, thriller. I keep buying more and more copies to give away to friends to read. Darkness Peering would make a great movie. Can't wait to read Ms. Blanchard's next book. I started to read it and could not put it down.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: SCARY AND WELL-WRITTEN
Review: I have to say, this is easily one of the best books I've read in the last five or six years. The characters are wonderfully-drawn, the descriptions put you in this small Maine town and the plot is simple, yet intricate. It had me from page one through the very last page, which shocked the hell out of me. If I could rate this book six or seven stars, I would.

Summary: A Great Read
Review: Darkness Peering is simply a wonderful, fast paced, exciting thriller. I forced myself to read it slowly so that I wouldn't miss one moment and I still didn't guess the ending. I can only hope some studio has optioned this one for a movie because it's gonna make a great one. I certainly hope Alice Blanchard is sitting in front of her computer right now working on her next stunner.

Summary: Gripping, Terrifying!
Review: I have never read one of Alice Blanchard's books before. I only just started reading this book, and from the first chapter it pulls you in. The dead girl lay face up by the pond, was the first sentence! I can tell I am going to love this book, it already grabbed me!

Summary: What a Page-Turner is All About
Review: This was one terrific read! I picked it up in the airport before a 90 minute flight and the book became sewn to my hands! The characters are well-defined, the mystery is logical and best yet, I couldn't find any holes in the story. Blanchard is a very talented woman.

Summary: Kept My Interest Going!
Review: I noticed that a lot of copies had been sold from my local bookstore, but I don't usually buy a book just for that reason. This time, I did. I like thrillers, but I'm picky about them. I just got the feeling I should buy this one since it seemed so popular. I'm glad I did!

The first pages drew me in and I never got bored with the book. A horrible murder is left unsolved, and a cop is driven to suicide. Eighteen years later, his daughter has followed her father's footsteps and re-opens the case. More murders follow, and she must deal with the fact that her very own brother may be the killer.

The ending surprised me and I didn't guess who it was until a few paragraphs before it was revealed. Alice Blanchard is an author I'm going to watch! DARKNESS PEERING will keep you guessing.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I just love a good murder mystery.... A dead girl was found in the woods. The local sheriff starts to believe that maybe his son was the guilt person. Eighteen years later, the murder is not resolved. The sheriff's daughter is now a cop and she wants to find the guilty party. Another death happens right after she starts asking questions on this old case... Are the deaths related? Is her brother guilty? Read to find out and get ready for the shocking ending...

Summary: A good airplane book but nothing more.
Review: Blanchard's characterization is very good but her handling of the actual mystery is clumsy - too much information in all the wrong areas, and the police often seem to be being deliberately obtuse so as not to end the book too early. In addition, the much-vaunted "twist" at the end was so blindingly obvious - literally from the first pages of the book every piece of evidence points in that direction and no other - that I actually missed it the first time around and had to page back through to be sure that, indeed, what had been so obvious was exactly what was supposed to be shocking.

On a purely pedantic note, in the first part of the book she rather glaringly misattributes an aspect of Egyptian mythology to Greek mythology. I certainly would not avoid buying the book just on that basis, but it was a grating note that jarred me right out of the flow of the story.

Bottom line - an entertaining read as long as you have nothing better to do and don't expect very much from it.

Summary: A GREAT BOOK....
Review: If this is Alice Blanchards first novel, I can't wait to read what's next. What a page turner with an unexpected (but yet expected) twist at the end. Ms. Blanchard harbors extreme talent and I will be the first in line for her next novel. Her characters are so real, her scenario frightening, her descriptions make you feel like you are there.

Summary: I really LOVED this book!
Review: It's exciting to discover a new, brilliant writer. Alice Blanchard is brilliant and then some. "Darkness Peering" completely blew me away. It has this amazing mixture of plot and humanity. This is the rare great book.
