Rating: Summary: Worse then the turbulence on a transatlantic flight Review: I bought this book as the author was advertised as being on the New York Times Best Seller List from a previous book. This was to be a quick read for a transatlantic flight. Fortunately the turbulence was light during the flight. This is a silly book.
Rating: Summary: Pathetically predictable and totally unrealistic Review: This is one of the worst books I've read. Please, save yourself the agony and grief. PEOPLE magazine reviewed this book and said, "Meltzer has earned the right to belly up to the bar with Grisham, Turow, and Baldacci." Uggh, NOT! I wanna know who was paid (and HOW much) to say that. This book is beyond pathetic. The husband and wife are contantly getting assaulted by the bad guys in one unbelievable scene after another. The charachters are filled with incredibly sappy codependence and extremly low self-esteem, enough to make you wanna lose your lunch. There is nothing "believable" about this story as it becomes painfully obvious that this is a "this could never really happen story 'cause it's way to stupid." I had to quit reading before I was even finished. Yes, it's really that bad. PEOPLE magazine, can I have my money back? Unless you are really, REALLY desperate, PLEASE save yourself the misery of trying to enjoy this poor attempt at a book. It really doesn't get any better, only more pathetic, page after boring page.
Rating: Summary: This is a horrible book Review: Plain and simple, this book stinks. One of the stupidest plots one can imagine written by someone who must know absolutely nothing about the legal field. You just can't read this book without putting it down in disdain!
Rating: Summary: Re: Audio version of Dead Even Review: I listened to Brad Meltzer's 'The Tenth Justice' on audio cassette and thought it was the greatest! I gave it 5 stars. My friend agreed. However, 'Dead Even' was a different story. The person reading it was a female, and I just could not bear listening to her. She was terrible! Maybe because I'm so used to hearing males reading on audio, or because her reading and voice were just bad. To be fair, I've disliked some other audio books due to a boring male reader. I actually did not get past the first 5 minutes, so I couldn't even say if the story was interesting. I do not recommend this book on audio. Try 'The Tenth Justice'. It's GREAT!
Rating: Summary: Unlike Tenth Justice, disappointing plot, etc Review: Having read his awesome book The Tenth Justice, I decided to read Dead Even, but was quite disappointed. The Plot, while believable, was simply too sparce. The antagonists too typical and the book too straightforward. I wouldnt recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Meltzer stars well but finishes poorly. Review: As in "The Tenth Justice," Meltzer starts his novel with an interesting premise, then the increasingly silly plot diminishes the book greatly. By the time I finished "Dead Even", I could not believe the stupidity of the events Meltzer had cooked up. Meltzer completely loses control during the last third of the book, and he resorts to desperate plot devices in an attempt to distract the reader. He has no talent for writing legal thrillers. Meltzer should find another way to express his creativity; maybe he could take up a musical intstrument.
Rating: Summary: ALMOST DEAD EVEN WITH JOHN GRISHAM Review: What I liked most about this book was the manner in which Mr. Meltzer brought the characters of Sarah and Jarrod Tate to life. With the many twists in the plot, Mr. Meltzer was still able to bring them all together in a good climax. In particular, listening to this book was like climbing that first hill on a roller coaster and trying to anticipate that first drop. Ms. Burton did a good job, and many times as a listener you could picture the scene in your mind so vividly that it was almost like being there. I would have liked and was expecting some court room confrontations between Sarah and Jarrod. Once Sarah started piecing things together it seemed like Jarrod was no longer one of the main characters. This was my first experience with Mr. Meltzer and will not be my last. Overall, I would place this book right along side of John Grisham who is one of my favorite autors.
Rating: Summary: A fast page turner Review: If you like a thiller this is one to read, it was a fast read and most enjoyable. There were a few disappointments but not enough to ruin it as a good book! I look forward to more of his books!
Rating: Summary: Doesn't get going until mid-way through. Review: Sara Tate is a Manhattan assistant DA. Due to budget cuts she will lose her job unless she wins a big case. She nabs what looks to be an easy burglary case. It turns out to be much, much more. Jared is her husband. He is black mailed into going head-to-head on the case against his wife. He either wins the case or his wife gets killed. Sara is on a black mailer list too. She either wins the case or her husband gets killed. ***It does not really get going until half way through. Then it gets many twists and turns. Full of legal situations and you will learn a lot about how ADA's work, but for someone not in the profession, this book will not be very gripping.***
Rating: Summary: I read it in one night Review: Riveting, honest, and a true law THRILLER. As good as DEAD EVEN, but more mature. I look forward to the long carreer of Mr. Meltzer.
