Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I would have rated this book with 0 stars if allowed the option. I read it quickly because I needed to find out who did it, why and how: I can never put a mystery down, no matter how lame it is - my fault, not the authors', but really - this took the cake. I was so disappointed at the end - and mad at myself for throwing good money away. Unbelievable plot with really big holes, unbelievably stupid characters completely given over to their hormones (if I ever had a lawyer so lacking in judgment as this one, I would try to get her disbarred, and lawyer friends of mine tell me I would have a chance), and simplistic motivations for everyone, but most of all the killer. Nothing in this book rings true. My advice is to not buy it - doing so will only encourage these sisters to write more.
Rating: Summary: My First O'Shaughnessy Novel & My VERY LAST! Review: You have got to be sooo bored to read this book. This is my first time I have read a novel by these two sisters and I was not impressed at all. I like the character Nina Reilly a lot, but the plot is so SLOW! The O'Shaughnessy sisters could have had this book be about 275 pages instead of 448. Instead of getting right to the plot, half the time the book is about Nina meeting another lawyer named Collier and getting married in one book. That is not that bad, but this lawyer is the prosecutor on the case against her! GIVE ME A BREAK! Instead of getting to the mystery of the sisters, the authors talk about the secretary's relationship problem and another old woman who has a problem concerning divorce. It just goes on and on! Too Slow for me! No more O'Shaughnessy for me!
Rating: Summary: A Trip to Lake Tahoe Review: This book is my introduction to "O'Shaugnessy" and it's a winner. I read a lot of mysteries - some of which I never finish - why bother. This one held my attention all the way through. The authors' 'sense of place' is remarkable. The reader 'sees' the Lake Tahoe locale. It's well written and plotted though the reader also sees what's coming. In this sense, it's more a tale of suspense than mystery. Despite this, the finale was particularly gripping. As a fan of Elizabeth George, Ruth Rendell, James Lee Burke on the heavy side and Sue Grafton, Robert Parker, James Crais on the more flip side, I found the romantic involvement of the characters perhaps too prominent but as it turned out - it was quite integral to the plot. (We mystery readers tend to be picky-picky about the genre). I would recommend this book - this 'writer', (two writers, actually - sisters who are probably well attuned to each other) to other mystery fans. I haven't yet read another of this series but I've already picked up a couple. Stay tuned.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment in the series Review: After reading the other books in the series, this one was a disappointment. The part of the plot which concerns Nina Reilly's personal life is shallow and unbelievable--more like what I imagine a "romance" novel to be. I am not likely to continue reading the series after this one.
Rating: Summary: This is the BEST one YET Review: i started reading these books with the second book in the series. i was so hooked that i read the first one. this book is the best nina reilly yet !!!. not technically a what-is-the-answer type of book, this one explores the ethical dilemmas lawyers have to deal with on a daily basis - both personal and professional. i can't say too much or i'll give away the story, but out of the 5 books, this is my favorite. if you love nina reilly, you will love this book
Rating: Summary: My girlfriend was very upset . . . Review: My girlfriend was very upset over this book. She normally enjoys these novels very much, but with this one, she found that O'Shaughnessy's world has turned particularly malevolent. While most of her stories are suspenseful and nail-biting until the last few chapters, she generally ties her plots together neatly, satisfying the reader and affirming her view of a benevolent universe. However, with this novel, O'Shaughnessy moved her focus into content that is highly disturbing and downright creepy. I honestly cannot recommend this book, and I would actively discourage others from reading it.
Rating: Summary: Acts of Malice is a special favorite of ours! Review: This legal thriller set on the ski slopes and in the courtrooms of Lake Tahoe has some special features that we hope our readers will enjoy, including a strong love story and a final chapter that we think will knock your socks off! Thanks for reading our books, and if you like it, look for Move To Strike, coming out in August. .............. send us an email and we'll write back! Best wishes and good reading!
Rating: Summary: Hard luck Nina does it again Review: These two sisters really know how to captivate a reader. Nina Reilly is a likeable, realistic character one can't help identify with. Acts of Malice is the latest in a fine series of novels about the struggling Lake Tahoe attorney Nina Reilly's quest for justice and meaning in her life. When she thinks she's figured it all out, the rug gets pulled out from under her. We can all identify with that can't we. I highly recommend this and all the books in the series.
Rating: Summary: First time reader Review: This is the first O'Shaughnessy book I have read and I am hooked on the character Nina Reilly. The plot keeps the reader guessing and characters really come to life. The picturesque descriptions of Lake Tahoe are better than a travel brochure. The only drawback is the weak dialogue and occasional "diarrhea" of the exclamation point. Overall, a suspenseful story right up to the end.
Rating: Summary: acts of Malice Review: This was a great book! couldn't put it down
