Rating: Summary: This has got to be Alan at his all time DUMBEST! Review: Characters in this book were interesting. Especially Carl! The whole whale thread was very annoying and didn't mesh throughout the book. The best thing about S. White's books is he always has a fresh plotline and his writing is sharply drawn. He gives the characters humanity and humor and makes them leap off the pages. A good read but not his best.

Rating: Summary: Not My Cup Of Tea Review: Dr. Alan Gregory and his wife Lauren are two of my favorite reoccurring characters, but they take a back seat in this story. The tale begins on an interesting note, but the pace soon begins to lag. There are some interesting characters here, but for some reason I just couldn't connect with the main character, Kirsten/Peyton. The first person narrative seemed awkward to me. I kept reading because I was curious to learn the outcome of Lauren's pregnancy. I was rewarded with a short, fast paced conclusion, but the birth of Lauren and Alan's baby was glossed over. I have enjoyed most of Stephen White's previous novels, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
Rating: Summary: A SUPERB READING Review: Even at her young age, Sandra Burr is a veteran performer who first walked on a civic theater stage at the age of six. She gives an appropriately menacing reading to this frightening story of a woman and her nine-year-old daughter who seek refuge in the Witness Protection Program. After New Orleans District Attorney Kirsten Lord's husband is murdered by a hit man, she soon discovers that her own life and that of her daughter's is threatened. Feeling she has no other valid choice she agrees to be hidden in Colorado. However, once in the program she meets another who is being protected, Carl Luppo. He is a lone mob hit man very much, she suspects, like the man who killed her husband. Sensing her danger, Luppo befriends Kirsten; he appoints himself her guardian. Kirsten's chaotic life is in stark contrast to the relative tranquility enjoyed by a psychological consultant to the Protection Program and his wife who are preparing for the birth of their first child. There's both darkness and light in this suspenseful tale, and Sandra Burr reads it superbly.
Rating: Summary: Super fast read Review: Great novel...departs from the usual series characters, but very juicy....you won't want to put it down! Loved the people in this one, especially the former "hit" man and his pooch in the protective identity program. I hope we hear from these characters again in White's future novels.
Rating: Summary: Not his best Review: I am writing this for those familiar with Mr. White and his series. While he has reduced the gratuitous politcal slaps at anything right of Al Gore in this offering he has traded that annoyance for the EXTREMELY annoying and distracting device of heroine Kirsten/Peyton's memories appearing to her as whales. An otherwise probably best of series, this book is very degraded by this device. I'd certainly recommend it but I'd trade any three unread White's for any Ridley Pearson....or Dennis Lehane....
Rating: Summary: good book about the witsec program Review: i bought this book at the airport, started reading it and while initially it was bumpy (the dialogue), it finally picked up and kept going like a good train ride. a woman goes into the program after her husband is ordered & killed by a man she sent to prison. she has a young daughter, and they end up in colorado. the book provides a very claustrophobic view on how restricted life can be without freedom and a support system and calls into question the reality about being able to hide from people intent on harming you. this was a good read.
Rating: Summary: Best in the Series Review: I have a somewhat different view than alot of this series' readers. I have read the later books in this series, although it never even excited me enough to make me want to read the pre-Lauren being Mrs. Gregory entries. I gave the previous entries I read 3 to 4 stars, because they were good, but Gregory pales in comparison to Alex Delaware, and Kellerman's series is really the only viable comparison to this series. And that's why I really liked this book. We saw less of Gregory and more of two great, great characters, in Kirsten/Peyton and Carl Luppo. Gregory himself is a slightly boring protagonist, but not so these characters. If White makes Kirsten, or even Luppo, turn up in later entries in this series, the series will become much better.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Novel Review: I have always held a certain interest of the Witness Protection Program, and this novel gave me another perspective on it. Cleverly crafted and hard to put down. A must read.
Rating: Summary: He does it again. Review: I have never been diappointed in one of Stephen White's books and was not let down this time. It brings back old characters and introduces other good characters. Very good book
