Summary: Five reasons why I disliked the book...
Review: 1. I felt as if I were being talked down to--and looked down upon--by the author throughout the entire story. 2. There were continual references to the hero's intellectual and professional "brillance"; and since our hero is a psychologist just like Kellerman himself is in real life, I kept getting the icky feeling that I was witness to some sort of vicarious ego trip for the author. 3. Often the dialogue comes off as a lecture or lesson. 4. The main character showed little regard for the feelings and situations of the other characters. 5. The story culminates with a kind of improbable perfect-timing luck that makes me question the author's creative effort.

Summary: Introducing Dr. Alex Delaware.
Review: Child psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware seems to have it all. A beautiful home, a loving woman, a luxurious car, and retirement in his early thirties. There aren't many that can claim the bounties that Dr. Delaware has in his life. However, all is not well with Dr. Delaware. With a psyche still scarred by the horrors brought to his doorstep by a lonely and sick man, Alex finds himself adrift, simply existing and not really living.

That is, until his friend and LAPD detective Milo Sturgis comes to him and asks for help. Milo is working a double homicide case, and the only witness they have at this time is Melody Quinn, a quiet, troubled, 7-year-old girl. Milo wants Alex to dust off his couch and talk to Melody. Little did Alex know that this simple favor would set off a chain of events that would have dire consequences on his life.

This is the first of Jonathan Kellerman's highly popluar Dr. Alex Delaware series, and I can see why this first book has led to many more. Dr. Delaware is an interesting character with several different - and often conflicting - aspects to his personality. Milo Sturgis, the slovenly LAPD Homicide detective with a heart of gold and unique personality foibles all his own is Alex's co-star, and is a fascinating character in his own right.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, and look forward to reading the further adventures of Dr. Delaware.

Summary: Can't Put it Down
Review: I picked up this book on a whim at a flea market, and felt I was being a little morbid picking up a book about child abusers. I quickly fell in love with Dr. Alex Delaware--I keep hoping I can find a doctor like him in real life--and also Milo Sturgis. I've read several books in this series, and while they can be read out of order, I've found there are numerous little side comments and references that you'll only get if you've read them in order. You'll definitely want to read them all anyway--some are better than others, but all are good reading, and I still thing When the Bough Breaks is one of the best.

Summary: This Book Got Me Hooked!
Review: I read this book for the FIRST time years ago, just after it was first published, and I haven't missed a book since. This was the first book I read By Jonathan Kellerman, and is definitely still his best. It is fascinating, horrifying, fast-paced and exciting, and I couldn't put it down. Kellerman's characters are clear and his descriptions are easy to visualize; I felt as though I were in the book with Alex, Milo, & Robin. Read it!

Summary: A good book
Review: I think that Jonathan Kellerman's novel is a very good book even if there are a lot of unbelievable connections between the characters. It seems a book written in a movie style, with all the most important features of a movie: suspense, action and surprise.

Summary: Good Book
Review: I thought that this book was one of the best that I have ever read. The author does a great job of making the beginning interesting, and it drew me in right away. He develops the characters well, you really get to know them. You can tell that the author has a lot of knowledge about the medical field, specifically child psychology. This isn't your normal murder mystery, there is so much more to it. While reading, there are clues that lead you closer and closer to the answers, and it's like a big puzzle that comes together at the end. It's a great book.

Summary: Start With This One
Review: If you are looking to start reading the works of Jonathon Kellerman, specifically the Alex Delaware series, then this is a great one to start with. It, like the others, is written in the first person. IF you start with the others, like I did, you may find trouble associating with or understanding Dr. Delaware, the protagonist, and his background. This book sets up the characters, lays the foundation for the following books, and at the same time delivers a great story. Mr. Kellerman does a good job of mixing in numerous characters and plot twists to the extent that the first victim in this book gets "lost" in the middle of the story, but gets tied back in at the end.

Summary: Jonathan Kellerman's best book
Review: If you have never read a Jonathan Kellerman book, you should. I suggest you read, When the bough Breaks, I totally loved it, although it was not the first one I had read. The first one I read was, Survival of the Fittest, it was great too, but When the bough breaks is my personal fave. I,ve read all of Jonathan Kellerman's fictional books, and enjoyed every single one. So, I guess that tells you what a great author that he is. And I think that he needs to be recognized more than he is. I was shocked that when I got onto Yahoo, there was no information on him.
