Summary: Great to be back with Spenser, Susan, Hawk, Henry, etc
Review: The only trouble is Robert B Parker doesn't write fast enough. The cracking dialogue, the sparse writing, the absorbing characters, great! Sure there are echoes of other situations in other books in the series but is this a bad thing?

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Parker continues to deliver the goods!
Review: I confess that I am an avid Spenser fan and have read every book in the series. Like other's who have reviewed this title, I am impressed by Parker's consistency in producing a first rate read. I at times miss some of the harder edge the earlier novels had (Spenser was more inclined towards climactic violence to gain resolution of a case) they remain satisfying stories. I have aged and matured and so has Spenser. Keep them coming.

Summary: Excellently funny!
Review: I was relating myself all the time with the main character..

Summary: Much better than most
Review: I have become disenchanted with authors who abandon their own characters, so I was pleased to see that Spenser was back, not that I have anything against Jesse Stone. "Hush Money" and the return of Spenser was worth waiting for even though the supporting cast of K.C., Amir and Milo were weak. Spenser is good , but I still miss Travis Magee.

Summary: Solid to Outstanding Spenser
Review: Parker has been more consistent with Spenser than most authors of mystery series. The conversations and meal times with Susan and the Wonder Dog are among the best; Hawk has a place of honor; we have glimpses of our old friends on the Boston police force; and Spenser is tough, literate, and proud. A good read!

Summary: Disappointing at best
Review: I am a long time fan of Mr.Parker and Spenser for Hire. I even followed the television series, but lately I have become disenchanted with the changes in Spenser's character. He seems to have lost his charm and class, and developed into the crass typical P.I. using all the four letter words available. I don't see this as an improvement in his character but a major flaw. Mr. Parker, please bring back the Spenser we love. Class never hurt anyone!

Summary: Susan SILVERMAN
Review: Excellent book - the audiotape version was out a full month before the book was. Many great scenes, although it's hard to believe Spenser at his age is still up to the action described

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A good read though not the best one in this series
Review: After twenty-five years, one would think Spenser would have dried up by now. However, Spenser remains fresh and fun to read. Though not a heavyweight, the current novel, HUSH MONEY, is a typical Spenser tale as the hero fights for what he believes is right. Fans of the series will welcome Robert B. Parker's latest entry in his long running series.

Summary: Great book but could use a little more violence and gun play
Review: "Hush Money" is one of the best "Spenser" novels in years. Not THE best only because it probably could use a little more violence and gun play. SPOILER: Spenser and Hawk beat up only four people. And they don't even shoot anyone!

You think maybe they're getting old? Nah!

But seriously, "Hush Money" is Robert Parker at his finest. Spenser is at his wise-cracking, one-liner best and Hawk is; well, he is Hawk. Audacious, inscruptible, redoubtable Hawk. Plus, we get a glimpse into Hawk's early life, before he met Spenser.

And as another bonus, near the end, we get to see another side of Susan. I never liked her more. But don't skip to the final pages, it will spoil the fun.

If you are a "Spenser" fan, you'll enjoy this book. If, however, you are a politically-correct liberal (or from San Francisco, same thing), you'll probably hate it. As a personal side note, I am a fairly conservative African-American - no Buchanan-lover by any means (pun intended for those who've read the book) but defintely neither liberal nor politically correct - and I can testify to the self-righteous hypocrisy and racism of the liberal White academics to Robinson Nevins. It is almost as if Robert Parker was privy to some of the conversations I've had in academia.

"Hush Money" is an excellent book; on many levels.

Summary: Spenser goes to college! (Mayhem ensues)
Review: Spenser takes two pro bono cases and ends up being stalked and having his car blown up as his reward for his trouble!

This foray into the noire world of Spenser is replete with all of the formulaic plot devices that Robert Parker uses in nearly every Spenser book - commentary on Spenser's relationship with Hawk, his relationship with Susan, on the behavior of Pearl the Wonder Dog, etc. But, it is like visiting old friends - you know what the conversations will be but you still enjoy the visit.

Spenser's foray into Academia is a hoot! If you haven't read this Spenser novel, make a point of it!
