Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Classic Spenser
Review: One of my favorite recent Spenser novels, better than Sudden Mischeif

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Ludicriously Bad
Review: Parker tries to keep two plots going in this one, and unfortunately they are both ludicrious and somewhat boring. Susan turns into a foul-mouthed bully, Hawk and Spenser's banter seems more contrived than ever, and the preposterous ending is so forced and stupid it makes you wonder why he wrote it in the first place. If this is the kind of drivel Parker is going to crank out, he should hang up his typewriter.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Much better than Night Passage-
Review: I like to have a lot of Susan and Hawk in the story--I like Susan being suggestive, but don't like her cursing. Hawk is always mysterious, but it was good to hear him open up after all these years. one of these years we'll hear of Spenser getting paid, or how he keeps his established residence w/o living on the streets---or is Susan keeping him financially/no just a brain cramp. I love Robert B. Parker's writing and read the Sunday paper always looking to see if he has a new one out yet--wish he could mass produce Spenser like some other authors do their sex stories. I do appreciate the labor he puts into it to the point I have had to purchase a map of Boston to follow the stories!please keep them coming--faster----from San Diego

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Another terrible effort!
Review: Parker seems to be just going through the motions lately. A very weak attempt from a series whose fans have come to expect so much more. I'm beggin' ya, Bobby, please put some effort into the next one!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: More Hawk--Good. Less Susan--Good.
Review: In reading the past three or four books, I skipped right over the inter-chapters depicting Spenser with Susan. It makes for quick reading and I miss nothing.

I'm glad to learn more about Hawk. How 'bout more show, though, and less tell?

Summary: Robert B. Parker Should Send Hush Money to the Readers
Review: Having been a fan of the Spenser series for years, with each book I open, I secretly hope this is the one that will inspire "Spenser: the Motion Picture" It didn't take long to realize that this book, "Hush Money" was certainly not going to be that book. Confusing issues of attempting to solve 2 cases simultaneously, Spenser now becoming the "Captain Kirk" of Dectectives, can't help but have beautiful women fling themselves at him. Hawk has been reduced to a uninteresting cartoon character. When Hawk speaks he sounds like more like a character from Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer than a modern day man of the street. In "Hush Money" Spenser's car is blown to bits, only to mysteriously reappear several chapters later, even Parker himself must have lost interest.

Summary: Susan and Hawk
Review: I enjoyed this book as much as the other Spenser books - but found several gaps that were not explained. I kept waiting for Spenser to mention to Susan that his car was blown up...but that didn't happen. The dual story line was good. Evolving Hawk's character seemed appropriate after so many Spenser stories. This reminded me a little of Walking Shadow using the stalker story line. This book left me waiting for the sequel that would answer the story lines left dangling. A little disappointed in this latest Spenser effort. What's with the spacing that begins each chapter?

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not one of Parker's better efforts
Review: Although I appreciate the fact that we are learning more about the pasts of Hawk & Susan, this effort is not worth buying in hardcover. The plotline with Susan's friend seems unrealistic and contrived. There also are holes in the story that should have been filled. Spenser and Hawk are irritating in their relapse to macho posturing quite evident during the Taming a Sea Horse era. I wish Mr. Parker would return to the quality of Valediction, Ceremony or The Judas Goat. If he is searching for fresh ideas, why not write a novel predominately from Hawk's perspective?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Another classic Spenser story
Review: Having read all of Parker's Spenser novels, I think this one is up there with the best of them.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Classic Parker--
Review: You either love Robert Parker's Spencer and Hawk or you do not. I do. His dialoge is fast, the humor dry, and the lines between good guys and bad guys are clear. I enjoy the wise cracks, the confidence and sometimes bravado of the two. They are confident and sure--and realistic to boot. I look forward to his books and read them as soon as they hit the stand.
