I figured I would not be as attached to the characters if I had read them from the beginning. But I was wrong. Each book brings a certain maternal feeling as Ramses has grown up in each book. He Shall Thunder in the Sky is the book where Ramses is no longer just part of the plot, he is an integral part of the story. Not that he wasn't before, but an omniscent view of his escapades added to his mother's "journals" make for a more involved and evolved story. Elizabeth Peters has done a wonderful job bringing the Emerson family to life, and I can see the series going on for years.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A GREAT READ! Review: HE SHALL THUNDER IN THE SKY is a wonderful tale of mystery and suspense. It has all of the charecters that Peters fans have grown to love, plus the dawning of WWI. How will the Emersons face this troubled time, and still get some archealogical work done? Find out by reading HE SHALL THUNDER IN THE SKY, and if you enjoy it half as much as I did, you will want to read it again!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Emersons, Family of the Year Review: This is the best novel in the series so far, I enjoyed it so much I finished it in one day. At the end I was cross-eyed, smiling, with tears in my eyes. The book challenged all of my emotions and involved me in this family's struggles. The adventure was crazy and nonstop, I loved that the war was incorporated in the story. One of the few things I have found frustrating about the series is how wordy all the characters are. This book modifies this to a bearable degree and I was certainly grateful. In the past, I have found Nefret and Ramses annoying sometimes, but they totally redeemed themselves in this book. Nefret is a surgeon now, and acts like an adult by controlling herself more and Ramses lets his true self show through his hard protective shell to actually show he is human. One of my favorite villians of all time, the Master Criminal is back, dashing, handsome, and bad with a few surprises of his own. Amelia and Emerson are back, better then ever and David is too, working hard to save lives and get back to his pregnant wife, Lia. I missed Sennia, she was a welcome addition in Falcon at the Portal, and I hope she plays a more important role in the future. The ending ties up several storylines and questions from the rest of the series. All in all a most satisfying read on all levels.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: One of Her Best Review: I love all the Emerson books and they just keep getting better as they progress. Amelia's nemesis is a favorite of mine and he is featured in this book. For fans, I don't need to say more. If you haven't read Peters before, I suggest you start with the first of the series and read them in order since the characters age and change as they go on. Coming into the middle might be confusing. I have come to love all of the characters over the years and I love Egyptology which is what attracted me to the books. What fun!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: another excellent Peabody mystery Review: I'd read the first three in this "internal" series (Cat, Ape, Falcon), and gotten tired of Ramses - his syntax in those books can get irritating. Two years later, I picked them up again, re-read them in order, and ended with Thunder - wow! I'm now a Ramses convert - what a great character! I love how Peters went into more depth with his character and let the stoic facade melt a little bit. I adore her archaeology plots, but I also liked how Thunder deviated from the archaeology a bit, and put the Emmersons' work in the context of WWI. There was enough of David in the story to keep me happy (I'm a huge David fan...) The Sethos plot was a little contrived, but it was worth it at the end. I can't wait to pick up Lord of the Silent. Thunder was a great read, at least to this die-hard Peters fan.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Immensely satisfying Review: I discovered this series a few years ago and have read all of the books in order. I usually space the books out, but after finishing Falcon at the Portal, I couldn't resist -- I went straight on to He Shall Thunder, and am glad I did. The two books are very closely related, and I highly recommend reading Falcon before this one. Better yet, if you're new to the series, read them all. Peters is amazing -- she just keeps getting better. Falcon and Thunder together are hugely satisfying. It's a rare author (of mysteries or anything else) who can make me LOL and move me to tears within the same book, but Peters does it. Her portrait of married love is truly touching, and her deep affection for her characters and their foibles shines through on every page. Having the younger generation involved keeps things from getting stale. Hey, can I give this 6 stars? :-)
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: He shall thunder, and She shall conquer.... Review: If you're already familiar with the AMelia Peabody series, then this book will tie up a lot of loose ends and forgotten questions (or not forgotten) from other, previous books. If your new to the series, It's perfectly ok to read this one first, because each reference to the past is adequetly explained, though as usual, reading books in order is the best choice. The author has finally found that perfect balance between the relationships, the mystery, and the egyptology. for less informed readers, the egyptology isn't so intense as to leave you befuddled in the 1st chapter. the relationships don't preside over the mystery, and the mystery ties everything together. A wonderfull read.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: loved it all until the end Review: Since the previous book left me in such a cliffhanger about Ramses and Nefret I immediately opened this book to see what would happen. Though I found this to be one of her best books yet I secretly could not wait to find out if and how Nefret and Ramses would resolve their issues with each other. I arranged my week around this book until I made it to the end, only to be dissapointed by a few paragraphs to tie up the misunderstanding between our young heros and to have their part of the story overshadowed by all of these new plot twists on the final pages, as clever and surprising as they were. Oh Ms. Peters! We was so faithful to you for every book you wrote yet we were not invited to the wedding? Maybe in the sequal! Excellent book but hoped for more in the ending.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: He Shall Thunder in the Sky Not All it Could Be Review: I must agree with some of the reviews on this book. Having read all of Elizabeth Peters', Amelia Peabody series, this book is definitely lacking in content and sometimes uninteresting. There is very little in the way of Egyptology going on, and seldon does she refer or even go into detail about the archaeological excavations & sites they set out on in the past. It is vague, but finally in the last 10 pages Ramses & Nefret come together romantically and a shocker is revealed to all about Sethos! Definitely not her best and is lacking the Egyptological descriptions, setting, mystery and adventure I used to read her books for. I am very glad I purchased this one used.
