Rating: Summary: One of her older works made to seem new Review: This is not one of Tami Hoag's best. Take a look at the original publication date, and you will see that it is a much older book than her new suspense novels. I did not enjoy her romance books, but I loved "Night Sins", Guilty as Sin, and A Thin Dark Line. The publisher is trying to cash in on her later successes by bringing out old trashy novels just because they have her name on them. Do Miss Hoag a favor, and dump the old books; we want to see more like "Night Sins"!
Rating: Summary: Don't bother if you liked "Guilty as Sin" and "Night Sins" Review: After thoroughly enjoying "Guilty as Sin" and "Night Sins", I was hungry for Hoag's next novel. I began reading "Dark Paradise", was slightly intrigued, pushed ahead knowing it had to get better, and sorrowfully not making it through one third of the book. Ms. Hoag apparently has lost the "touch" she so skillfully developed in her previous novels, now wallowing in romanticism and "wordy" nonsense which is just a form of procrastination to lengthen the novel. I am not against romantic novels, but they have their place in literature; those of us who love the buildup, excitement, and conclusion of mystery/murder novels do not have much patience for this type of writing. I will attempt to read another of her novels, but if it does not meet the pace of her former accomplishments, Tami Hoag will be wiped off my "favorite authors' list."
Rating: Summary: No More Romance...Please!! Review: I read 2 of Tami Hoag's previous books and thought she was a great mystery writer. I was very disappointed after reading her latest book (Dark Paradise). I guess I have outgrown romantic novels.
Rating: Summary: Tami's Tawdry Trash Review: Intresting bathroom accessory. Tabloid type details of intimacy between enemies was drawn out and repetitive. The potential for new copy in the blond versus black coiffed haired females the sex was simply labled "horrendous". Story would have been improved if the editor had cut approximately two hundred pages.
Rating: Summary: Perfect choice for a first time reader. Review: This is the first time I have read a book by Tami Hoag. For a first choice I thought that it was very interesting. The mix of romance and mystery was just right for me.
Rating: Summary: It's not _Guilty As Sin_ but it's readable Review: I read _Guilty As Sin_ a while back and enjoyed it so I was looking forward to reading _Dark Paradise_ when I saw it on the news stand. The story had some interesting characters and interesting plot lines but, to be honest, I could have done with a lot more mystery and a lot less romance. To me, Bryce and his crew provided a lot more interest than the romantic going-on of Marilee and J.D.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining read; great characters Review: I have read a few of Tami Hoag's romance novels, which created my interest in "Night Sins" and "Guilty as Sin." I agree that this book is much more of a romance novel than the "Sin" books, but I enjoy romance AND suspense novels, so this was a good fit for me. I enjoyed the way in which the story was told (various points of view), allowing the reader to learn a lot about the secondary characters. This was not a great book, but it certainly was a good one, and it kept me entertained during a not so entertaining vacation!
Rating: Summary: This was a murder mystery??? Review: I've bought her books before and thought they were readable. But after several chapters, I kept expecting the front cover to change and for there to be a ranch-cowboy-stud ripping the bodice off the defnseless woman, and she is loving it. It was hard for me to really get into the story because the protagonist kept having fantasies about a man she though capable of murder. Get real.
Rating: Summary: Not a true mystery, but rather a romance! Review: Ms Hoag has NOT left the romance novel behind, if Dark Paradise is the test. As I read the first pages, I felt something was amiss, but I did not know Hoag's history, so I read on, hoping I was being overly sensitive. However, when the author wrote "She was already too aware of his body, the size and strength of it, the heat of it" and "Her body was pressed back into his, reminding him of just how soft a woman could be", in describing a struggle between two strangers in the dark and vandalized house of a murdered woman, I knew this was not going to be a Kinsey Milhone, or Goldy Shultz, or even Annie Laurance Darling-type heroine. No, this is a Romance Novel where sex is always around the next corner, women have "wild, streaky blond manes", and murder and violence is considered titillating, and don't let anyone tell you differently!
Rating: Summary: Nice mix of suspense with a little romance Review: Loved the flow of the novel. Starting with the spur of the moment life change of the main character who finds that this may not be all she imagined, to the suspense of finding out who murdered her friend and why. The ending was kind of hoaky but looking at the authors past, not too surprising. The middle of the book is the best and the offbeat characters she meets during her quest for truth are very believable as they relate to people you may know yourself
