Rating: Summary: A BAD HAIR DAY GETS WORSE Review: A bad day for Marilee Jennings is one that "starts out as a bad hair day and goes downhill from there." Little does she know, as she's driving to Montana, that what started as a bad day will only get progressively worse as the day goes on.Marilee is leaving behind her life as a court stenographer in California and traveling to New Eden, Montana to surprise her friend Lucy. Lucy relocated there from California over a year ago and has been living the good life in the beautiful hills of that state since then. The surprise is entirely on Marilee as she arrives at Lucy's house, only to find out that Lucy has been killed in a hunting accident. She gets this news from J.D. Rafferty -- the rough, tough cowboy who lives on the adjoining ranch. As others in the town start to die mysteriously, Marilee begins to think that perhaps Lucy's accident was intentional. Marilee fights a lone battle as she tries to unravel Lucy's life before her death. She has so many questions to be answered and no one who is willing to answer them. The ensuing story is well thought out but perhaps a bit predictable. The sexual tension between Marilee and J.D. Rafferty is worth the price of the book alone. Since Hoag is such a talented author, she's able to carry it through with ease. Hoag is one of my favorite authors in the mystery/thriller genre. However, I would categorize this book as romantic suspense and, as such, reads more like a Nora Roberts' book than the kind of Tami Hoag book to which I have become accustomed.
Rating: Summary: All Small Towns Aren't So Friendly Review: Marilee Jennings quits her job and decides to leave California for Montana where her friend Lucy MacAdam who moved there the year before. When Marilee arrives, she finds out that Lucy's been dead for over a week, the apparent victim of an accidental shooting. Marilee stays in town to mourn her friend and figure out what she's going to do with the rest of her life. She soon discovers that life in New Eden, Montana is not as tranquil as it might appear to be. J.D. Rafferty, Lucy's neighbor makes her feel most unwelcome in the town and there seems to be a real split running through the town on the influx of rich California people who are buying up property in New Eden. Marilee finds out that she is Lucy's heir and that she has inherited her small farm. While she can't decide whether to stay in New Eden or not, she finds herself increasingly uncomfortable with the explanation for Lucy¹s death. She also finds herself thinking more and more about J.D. Rafferty. Tami Hoag has created a rich story set in an attractive town with not always attractive characters. The read is a good one. We feel as if we come to know Marilee as a family friend and I found myself rooting for her throughout the story.
Rating: Summary: Dark Paradise Review: I thought Dark Paradise was a very well written book. I myself like reading stories that are suspensful with a little twist of romance, and that is precisly what this book is. I think Tami did a fantastic job on writting a great book and I give it two thumbs up.

Rating: Summary: Mystery Buffs.....Beware! Review: First off I want to say that if you are a total mystery buff and not into romance, do not read this book! I read this title after finishing my first Tami Hoag book, Ashes to Ashes. Dark Paradise is nothing like it. This book is mainly a romance between J.D. and Marilee. Marilee comes into a small town to visit her best friend Lucy, only to find that Lucy is dead. The longer she is there she starts to believe it wasn't a hunting accident, as the town has said, that killed Lucy. Determined to find the truth, she starts doing some investigating on her own. While in the meantime she fills her free time with J.D., where, of course, a love blossoms. I enjoy romances, but for some reason Dark Paradise didn't really hit me like I felt it should. I went and bought most of Tami Hoag's earlier releases, I just hope I enjoy them more that this one.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed, but will try again Review: I was under the assumption that Tami Hoag wrote only crime and suspense novels, so I was surprised when I read 'Dark Paradise' which was filled with sex and romance. Not until after reading this book did I find out that she used to be a romance novelist. This particular book had more sex and romance than crime and suspense. However, I'm looking forward to reading 'Ashes to Ashes', because Hoag does spin a web full of intrigue, and she did it well enough to warrant another read.
Rating: Summary: A great read with a hot romance Review: This book does tend to focus a lot on the romance between JD and Marilee, but I can't complain. It was one of the sexiest courtship dances I've ever read. The secondary characters were also very interesting and well-written. I was sad to see the book end because I loved the heat between JD and Marilee - I think Tami Hoag should consider a follow-up to this story like she has with some of her other books.
Rating: Summary: Keeps You Reading Review: Although much of this book focuses on romance, it still has a murder plot that keeps the reader in suspense. Like Hoag's Thin Dark Line, a murder has been committed and the big question is the proverbal "who dunnit." Hoag introduces the reader to many characters who has the motives, but the end was wonderfully surprising. The romance plot between Marilee and J.D. did not hurt either. Great read.
Rating: Summary: Strong Characters, Slow Plot Review: I feel this book is a little long and the plot a little slow. There were several scenes that I felt were unnecessary. However, the character development was superb. I loved the characters of JD and Marilee. I would have given the book five stars, but the book was more of a romance that had a little mystery thrown in. Many of Hoag's other books have a lot of mystery with a little romance for flavor. I didn't know "who did it" until around page 400. Although I feel Hoag's best work is "Night Sins" (with the best character of her work being Mitch and Megan), "Dark Paradise" runs a close second. Not a book to read in one night, but if you're patient, will stay with you.
Rating: Summary: Hooked from the beginning Review: Wow! What a great beach read. From the first page I was sohooked that I stayed up past midnight two or three nights in a row tofinish it. Loved the complexity of the characters, the unique setting and side twists. Bit too much sex for this type of novel and I didn't like the author's tactic consent over the terrible way JD treated Marilee but over all still a super, super novel. This was my first Hoag but won't be my last!
