Review: Steve Alten's return to the watery world he introduced us to with the first MEG, and The Trench is an unqualified success. Not only are the suspense, pacing, and characterizations written with verve, panache, and skill, Alten also manages to educate the reader about both prehistoric and modern marine life. This book was a page-turner of the highest magnitude, and I recommend it highly for anybody interested in escaping from our politically muddled lives.
