Summary: Don't waste your time or money
Review: I do not usually feel strongly enough about a book to offer an opinion, but....

This book is more a parody than a thriller. The pace is too frenzied and the "hero" is more a "superhero". It's so overdone it's a joke.

Mr Ludlum has written many fine books. This is not one of them.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Too Much Action
Review: While better than Mr. Ludlums most recent efforts, which have been quite weak, the excess of action is a little bit hard to swallow. No human being could could possibly survive half of what Bryson was was faced with in this book. The first half of the book showed great promise, but about midway through it digressed into cheap action film material.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: My introduction to Ludlum
Review: Believe it or not, this was my first attempt at a Lundlum book. He has true talent and spins a great tale.

The reader does find themselves hit with so many characters at first, that it is quite difficult to keep up, but it's one of those books that you just can't put down. I found myself staying up late just to finish it. I had to see if he could make it off the ship, then faced the China debacle.

I guess my main reason for not giving it five stars was just for the "believability" of the text. The costumes, ID's, and supporting props just seemed to come a little too easily for a "real life" story.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Outrageous adventurous plot, but poorly delivered
Review: Robert Ludlum's novels have always appealed to me because of the sense of adventure and the fast-moving plots.

This book was disappointing. It gave me the impression that the plot was fleshed out by somebody just shoveling things into it. Something that starts out as a container ship later is referred to as a "tanker". Our hero "sagged to his feet", whatever that means.

This half-written, half-read book goes into the "donations" box.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Forced plot twists very annoying.
Review: I love a compelling story that features believable plot twists. This book is neither believable, nor entertaining to read. There are major plot twists so often, that the reader loses track of the good guys and the bad guys. This book features a 50+ page escape scene with so many 'missed chances' to kill the defenseless hero, in a dark, closed room, that I nearly put the book down at that point. Thankfully, I read on to experience the worst shooting assassins the world has ever seen. This book is far too unbelievable, and there are far too many plot twists to keep the reader interested. Thumbs Down!

Summary: Too much going on
Review: Reading Ludlum's stories of deception, turns, treason and other misconceptions is usually a lot of page turning fun. I have read quite a few of his books in one or two "sittings". But what he puts Bryson through in this book is just toooooo much.
Any other character would have to make it through 5 books to meet and beat all the bad guys, high tech aggressors and traps and I wonder, where Bryson carries all his equipment and weaponry that lets him get through all those challenges unharmed.

If this book were a hot dog.....there is too much relish, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles and not enough dog!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Fast paced with an excellent hero and an engaging plot
Review: I can read through just about any novel as long as I like the main protagonist, and if I can say anything about The Prometheus Deception, I very much liked Nick Bryson. He's clever and resourseful, but not always perfect. This is my first Ludlum novel, and I wonder what took me so long. I recommend it to anyone who needs a good escape. I was up 'til 1am with my nose stuck in this book. A very good read.

Summary: Poor intro to Ludlum I suspect.
Review: I saw a trailer for the new "Bourne Identity" movie and
caught Ludlum's name up there. Never had him recommended to
me, but I always knew his books were popular. Went to find
BI and picked up "Prometheus Deception" instead.

Pretty stupid book. Very, very tenuous connection to the
Prometheus legend, writing was average, too many scene changes
of dubious necessity and possbility, and the spycraft was
laughable. I'm supposed to be believe the best spy in the
world didn't know enough to check yesterday's weather before
patching a video feed? And that a human can learn languages in a month, to a native level, but speaks horrific and incorrect
Portuguese? (Maybe that's Ludlum's fault for trying to sneak
Portuguese, Spanish, and local variants past a language student).

This book rates as a nice diversion but sadly lacking. It
inspires one to sit down and write their own novel, as it
proves that if Ludlum can get paid to write this, the money
is out there for you, too.

Summary: Not Ludlum's best, but still worth checking out
Review: After reading Robert Ludlum's best books like The Bourne Identity & The Aquitaine Progression, I had huge expectations from The Prometheus Deception, Ludlum's latest Political Thriller. Believe it or not the book managed to satisfy my expectations.( Just about!)
The story is full of twists & turns & is exciting throughout, no real boring occassions. The only drawback is the ending where Ludlum seems to loose the plot a little. That is however made up with some excellent characters like Nick Bryson (The Central Character), Layla (The enigmatic woman)& Bryson's wife Elena.
All in all The Prometheus Deception is worth checking out once because its got all of vintage Ludlum in it which any diehard Ludlum fan (including myself) should enjoy thouroughly.

Summary: Ludlum, Come off it!
Review: another 500 page thriller from Ludlum. After the disappointing "Hades Factor", Ludlum is back in his usual form.

As usual, once again there is a super-secret organisation (you guessed it; Prometheus), immensely powerful, planning to take over the World, and the hero thwarts the plans, destroys the organisation and saves the world.

Nick Bryson is the top agent ( a la James Bond) of the Directorate, an ultra-secret, highly resourceful, US Intelligence agency about which even CIA and FBI do not know anything. Bryson, having carried out dozens of missions impossible successfully, is the hero of the Directorate. During one of his missions, he meets and marries Elena, a cryptographer, and a computer geek. One fine day, Elena decides to call off the marriage and vanishes. Bryson is hurt and yearning to find his lost love.

Bryson returns from a highly dangerous mission in which he nearly got killed, and his boss announces that Bryson has to be sacked. However, an alternative job and a new identity is ready.
Bryson has barely settled in his new life, CIA enters his life, lures him into a plan and spins a very disturbing theory which makes bryson go after his former employers with a vengence. He is joined in the mission by Lyalla, a mossad agent who has beauty, brains and brawn.

Then start the usual Ludlum scenarios of action, murder, mayhem, chases, killings galore, violence, betrayal, intrigue, conspiracies et all.

All the indivduals and the organisations that Bryson targets are extremely well guarded, protected, latest high-tech gizmos, armies of guards armed to teeth, yet Bryson manages to dodge all of them and penetrates everywhere in his crusade. Ultimately he stumbles to the diabolical plot of a very powerful and resourceful corporate trying to take control of the world. Only a few hours are left.

Bryson suddenly comes across Elena, his missing wife who joins him in the mission. Bryson manages to penetrate the impregnable fortress, destroy the ultra-tech gadgetry, and destroy the organisation. The end makes it clear that a sequel is in the offing.

Come on Ludlum, how long can you go on taxing us? The oft repeated formula of conspiracy, ultra-secret organisation, one man army et all, is becoming sickening. It's high time you changed. Even Nasir Hussain, Subhash Ghai, and David Dhawan have changed!

However stupid the storyline maybe, Ludlum has surely written well, there is a change in his style of narration, and the book does make an entertaining reading if only one is able to disconnect one's intellect (temporarily). We do it anyway when watching a David Dhawan-Govinda movie!
