It was more than a little reminiscent of another of my favorite books, "The Stand". Both started with a "momentous day" in which an event (or events) happened that would change the course of life for many individuals. As in "The Stand", not all of the individuals are good and in "From the Corner..." one is pure evil. All of the characters are developed to such a deep level that the reader will have strong feelings about each of them. I absolutely loved it and hope to see Barty and Angel pop up in a future Koontz novel.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: From The Corner Of His Eye Review: Dean Koontz has long been my favorite writer, but with this he has surpased himself. 'From The Corner Of His Eye' is the best book that he has ever written. It does contain the reacurring theme ofgood vs. evil that he is famous for, but with this book he makes you believe again, not only in God but in man and the power of hope and belief. I love this book and I have the greatest respect for a man that can not only imagine this but can make you believe and fill you with wonder.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Koontz can do better Review: I love Koontz's books but this one was a disappointment. The plot is clunky and the climax falls flat. Koontz strangles the suspense with badly executed plot devices and multiple undeveloped characters. He also creates a villian that is both violent and boring (how this is possible I am still trying to figure out). The book is only saved by the occasional beautiful imagery and one and only one unsuspected plot twist. If you have to read this book, buy in paperback.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Not your normal Koontz Review: See storyline above. I got hooked from the first few pages, thinking I'm in for a fast paced drama. Well, I got the drama. The pace lagged at times but because of Mr. Koontzs' writing style it was still great entertainmment. Such prose. Although a little too spiritual, the fantasy Mr. Koontz has written has enough mystery and suspense to push it to the top of the bestseller lists. Some of the unique characters in the book include the brothers Jacob and Edom. Jacob is obsessed and knows all about man made disasters while Edom is the same about natural disasters. There are many characters in this novel with their own unique philosophies. The evil protaganist, Junior Cain, with a rather unorthodox way of recalling something, was a follower of the philosopher Caesar Zedd, whom I found to have some rather interesting outlooks on life. At times emotionally gripping and full of surprises. At times preachy and annoying. A different sort of novel for Dean Koontz which should generate some new fans, and at the same time maybe lose some. Me? I look forward to what comes next. Lightly Recommended
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great turn for Dean Koontz Review: I've always been a Dean Koontz fan, and I found his new book to be deeply satisfying. As an interesting twist, one of the main characters deeply admines the works of Robert Heinlein. For any of you who have read Heinlein, the book has a "Stranger in a Strange land" -ish ending. Not only a wonderful book with Dean Koontz's typical excellent plot twists and character development, but also a subtle tribute to one of the greatest SF writers of all time.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Breathtakingly suspenseful...and beautiful. Review: Don't rush through From the Corner of His Eye, because when it ends, you will dearly miss the well-drawn characters. The Amazon.com review above has already told you what the book's about. Let me tell you how it makes you FEEL. In the beginning, you are absolutely mesmerized, shocked, horrified by the actions of the villain, Junior Cain. His actions are often inexplicable. Evil is present in the world. Especially in Junior's diseased mind! However, good is also present in the persons of Agnes Lampion, her son, Bartholomew 'Barty'. Koontz's books always deal with a battle between good and evil. We loyal readers know that. He has gone a step further in From the Corner of His Eye, writing so compellingly that you MUST know how evil is finally vanquished in this tale. The story is populated by wonderfully quirky secondary characters, such as Agnes' brothers Jacob and Edom whose lives have been stunted by an abusive father, but through the love of their strong sister, they find redemption. I have to mention this: The African American family, the Whites were a welcome addition to this story. I've been an avid reader of Mr. Koontz's novels for years and to see myself represented in this book was a thrill for me. Of course he's had African American characters in Strangers, Sole Survivor and Phantoms, but in this book he really depicted the characters with an unsurpassed depth of feeling. I wish more popular authors would incorporate African American characters in their novels. It's only realistic, as we live in a multi-cultural world. From the Corner of His Eye was such an emotional read for me that I'd read a few chapters each night, put it down then go back to it the next day. Some part of me sensed I'd be sad when it ended. And I was!

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: ANOTHER INTERESTING KOONTZ NOVEL! Review: Dean Koontz is such a unique writer. In "From The Corner Of His Eye," there are three main groups of people with different special qualities and attitudes. Eventually, through deception, murder, and secrets, these three groups of people will come together and present to the reader an amazing story. There is Bartolomeow Lampion, a young boy who was born right after his mother and father got in a car accident, killing the father. There is Cornelia, a woman who takes care of her sister's newborn baby after she dies in later. Her baby is a direct result of a rape. Lastly, there is Junior Cain, a crazy person, who kills his wife, Naomi, in the beginning of the story. Junior goes into a depression stage and wakes up saying the name Bartolomeow. Junior believes that he is his enemy and he must be destroyed. These three groups and an important police officer will take the readers on an extraordinary journey, lasting from the 1960's to 2000. If you are a Dean Koontz fan, "From The Corner Of His Eye," can not be missed!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Thrill Kill Review: From The Corner Of His eye, is a novel of suspense and intrigue. It holds you in a grip of both fear, terror, and ultimately compassion. It is a story worth reading, with its never ending plots of dangerous twists and turns, Dean Koontz will leave you breathless and inevitably wanting his next novel. However, the mysterious ending of the novel, prevented me from giving the novel the full five stars.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Unpredictable! Review: This is one of the better Koontz in a while. What I liked in this book is the "fantastic" realism similar to the art world and the unpredictable development of events and the behavior of the main characters. By the way, characterization is exceptionally well done, although it may have slowed down the pace quite a bit. Still, you can't put the book down: it just goes on and you want to know what happens next. This book is a little different than other Koontz novels, but it's a great read. For a faster-paced thriller with intricate plotting and breathtaking action, I highly recommend THE CONSULTANT by Alec Donzi which I just read over the holidays.
