Summary: Great description of caving.
Review: Nevada Barr makes you feel you are right there, wherever her books take you. Those who love meticulous description of her various environs will enjoy her stories, but those who love a great mystery story will be disappointed, particularly with this book.

Summary: What happened to the mystery?
Review: As a teenager I visited the magnificent Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, and I toyed with the idea of becoming a caver. That was years ago, but when I spotted this mystery all of those daydreams enveloped me, and I thought what a wonderful setting for a murder. Oops--childhood daydreams should remain as such. This story exhibited all the luster of a 7th grade, science class day trip. Page after page--on everything you ever wanted to know about stalagmites & stalactites, but what happened to the mystery?

Summary: Anna once again takes me places I've never been. Great!!
Review: Anna's personality continues to unfold with each adventure. She is one tough lady and gets in the most dangerous situations one can imagine. However, she is no superhero, her very real fears and weaknesses make the tales exciting and believable. AND WONDERFULLY ENTERTAINING!!! I can't wait to get to Liberty Falling. Keep 'em coming, I love 'em.

Summary: Totally absorbing - makes you feel the claustrophobia!
Review: Anna is thrown into yet another mysterious situation, this time where she fears most - a cave. Ms. Barr is very adept at bringing other characters from her previous novels, while explaining to you who they are and tying them back into the previous books. I could not put this book down - the chapters are ended as cliffhangers, and you just want to keep on reading. Ms. Barr has a wonderful knack for description, and you feel as if you're in the Carlsbad Caverns with Anna. I would have liked to see her get together with Curt, but that's just romantic wishful thinking. This is just as exciting as her other novels, especially if you like the great outdoors.

Summary: This superb adventure thriller is no accident.
Review: This original (sixth) mystery is a richly woven, caving, climbing and crawling adventure of murder and evil in our parks and wilderness areas. She grabs readers with her adventurous heroine, a yen for the environment, park service life and fear of dark and tight places far away from human comforts. This well-researched story has some of the identity and beliefs flavor of Hillerman and the visceral storytelling of Francis as Nevada Barr takes us to the 300-mile labyrinth of New Mexico caves, 800 feet underground. You have lots of possible villains above and below ground, but you wont get ahead of the story until the end. And you may be surprised. This well researched, craftily written story of expeditions underground unravels in a believable way from this intelligent, strong woman's point of view as she involves us in her natural vulnerabilities, the terror of claustrophobia and the joy of being above ground in New Mexico. Most readers will discover new territory here and clamor for her next book! Each Barr book improves on the last. Like her other stories, you won't soon forget this book. As a caver and environmentalist who lived in our National parks for 11 years, I loved the clear and correct descriptions of the life, the work and the adventure. It is clear that she has been there and lived it.

Summary: Nail-biting Adventure And Mystery
Review: The first part of this book is very tedious, as it deals in detail with caving techniques. After about 50 pages the mystery finally gets started and it's a doozie. Well worth waiting for. A well plotted story with plenty of action. Nevada Barr is one of the best story tellers I've come across, and her writing style is neat and concise. The characters are so well developed they seem almost real. Anna Pigeon is a favorite character of mine and I wasn't disappointed in this, her latest adventure.

Summary: Interesting caving descriptions, uninteresting mystery
Review: The first part of this novel which focuses on a cave rescue was very interesting, but it descended into tedium after that. The main character was very bland and the mystery hardly heart-pounding. The second half of the book was slow and dull and even when the mystery was solved, it hardly seemed worth a novel length story. If I hadn't bought the book (in hardcover) I would not even have bothered finishing it.

Summary: Barr just gets better and better...
Review: Each Anna Pigeon mystery is better than the last. I can't wait for the next book in this excellent series!

Summary: At last. . .Something Different!
Review: I had given up on mysteries for awhile because they all seemed to be the same, until I discovered Blind Descent. What a great book. This was the first Nevada Barr story I've read. The setting and descriptions of the deep caves made me feel as if I were there, and the story races from beginning to end. I could not put it down! Highly recommended. My High School daughter is going to read it next for her English Class.

Summary: Anna Pidgeon fans will love it.
Review: Ms. Barr has again placed heroine Anna Pidgeon in a dangerous expedition deep underground and teaches readers about the strange hobby known as spelunking.

I enjoyed the book immensely because it is such a pleasure to be inside her head as she attacks a mystery in her head on style. The absence of her sister makes this story unique and though I did not miss her too much, I hope she will be back in Anna's next adventure.
