Rating: Summary: First book I've ever thrown away. Review: I bought this book because it was on sale at the bookstore, well, my mistake. The plot is about a serial rapist that uses belladonna to drug it's victims...fine. BUT the problem is in the irresponsible and inept manner in which the author portrays rape victims and their responses during the actual rape. NO MS. SLAUGHTER, RAPE VICTIMS DO NOT ENJOY BEING RAPED!!! How she, as a woman, has such a sick view of being victimized is purely distasteful. Slaughter is spitting on the face of the women who have suffered endlessly (who still suffer, some in silence) to give rape victims what little rights they have now. If she did not mean to portray rape as such, then she needs to go back to English 101 and re-educate herself on adjectives and verbs. Other than her flagrant disregard for the truth about rape, the books is bland and highly predictable, gee...who just moved into town??? could he be the murderer...come on, u don't need to be a rocket scientist or a rock for that matter to know who was the murderer. If u r not into reading mysteries, and there's nothing but u and this book on a deserted island, then read it. BUT if u r an avid mystery reading like me, save your money and time.
Rating: Summary: Great new crime series Review: Ms. Slaughter has captured the essence of the small southern town in her first book, "Blindsighter". I was quite impressed; well developed and interesting characters, scary and intriguing plot and a really horrible bad guy. I like her style and really got hooked on the story which I finished in a couple of days. It is one of those that is very difficult to put down. It is a bit graphic at times, but so is life. I look forward to reading the rest of her books.
Rating: Summary: Good first stab - no pun intended Review: There is savagery, depravity, and blood in Karin Slaughter's first novel, but while it may be disturbing and somewhat farfetched, there is more to the effort than just blood and guts. The plot is reasonably intricate with unsuspecting connections to Dr Sara Linton's past as a resident in a large hospital. Some readers claim to have solved the murders early on, but the murderer did not really rise to a level of evil consistent with the crimes and fixations. The ending reflects the fact that the murderer does not have a strong lethality about him or her.
"Blindsighted" begins the description of the relationship between Sara and Chief of Police Jeffrey Tolliver. Even though having been once married to each other, their interactions seem to lack consistency and are overly acrimonious considering that they work together, have generally patched things up, and express high regard for each other. For that matter a lot of the dialog and interactions among several of the characters seem to be on the tone-deaf side.
The author does leave behind some unsettled issues with detective Lena Adams as well as with Jeffrey and Sara. "Blindsighted" is interesting enough to justify reading the next in the series, "Kisscut," to see where she is going with her story.
Rating: Summary: Much Potential - - Very Disappointing Review: Having not read any of Slaughter's series featuring Georgia coroner Dr. Sara Linton, I happily picked up the recently re-issued paperback copy of the debut novel BLINDSIGHTED. Linton's graphic and disturbing discovery of a young blind woman in a cafe ladies room got things off to a riveting start but went downhill after that with stereotypical involvements (her ex is on the police force)and oh-so-slow progression to a nothing to brag about ending. Unless it's a freebie, I doubt seriously I'll read further novels in this series.
Rating: Summary: Overwrought characters with no emotional control Review: The characters' constant agonizing and inability to avoid injuring those about them with their comments made this tiring to read. The mystery was okay, if a little gory, but the on-going emotional storm of the characters' lives was exhausting. I wanted to shout "Get a grip!" at them. I started her second novel, but it was more of the same. No, thanks.
