Summary: debut to die for!
Review: It's Monday morning in the sleepy tow of Heartsdale, Georgia, and everything is as normal. That is until Sara Linton - local paediatrician and medical examiner and ex-wife of Chief of Police Jeffery Tolliver - goes to the bathroom of the local diner and finds Sibyl Adams, sister of detective Lena Adams, barely clinging to life. She has been viciously raped, ad a cross has been cut deep in her abdomen. Despite Sara's desperate efforts to bring her back to the land of the living, Sibyl dies, thus becoming the first victim of a serial killer ready to commit ore horrifying crimes than anyone in this genteel little town could ever have dreamed of.

Then, a young student goes missing, and, shortly after, another victim is found, crucified and lying on the bonnet of Sara Linton's car...

This, an excellent portrait of crime in small-town America, is an absolutely first-class debut novel. Taut, suspenseful and shocking throughout, this is a runaway success that puts Karin Slaughter (perfect name!) right on the front line of female thriller writers, alongside Mo Hayder, Cornwell, Reichs, McDermid and the like. "Blindsighted" is bloody well-written, too, and Slaughter has struck an exquisitely perfect balance between plot and character.

The plot is excellent. It's brutal at times, although never gratuitously, shocking, with one or two events completely taking me by stunned surprise, yet also moving and compassionate. The leading trio are a compelling, fully realised bunch, and their relationships with one another (especially Sara and Jeffery) are fascinating.

Slaughter clearly has some fantastic talent and promise within her. "Blindsighted" is reminiscent of Cornwell's own spectacular debut, "Postmortem", and, while not yet quite as good as her, she hopefully has a long, similarly successful and influential career ahead of her.

Like Boston Teran's "God is a Bullet", "Blindsighted" is a debut to die-for.

Summary: Excellent writing, but....
Review: I am afraid that this very talented writer is appealing to the most vile of human qualities in her graphic descriptions of the sex and violence in this book. Frankly it greatly detracted from what could have been a P. Cornwall level novel. I will not be looking for any more K. Slaughter books until I hear that she has enough faith in the reading public and her own skills to feel that she can sell a novel without such sensationalism. Give me Grafton, Kellerman (either) or Hillerman anytime.

Summary: Gripping - Fast Paced and Revealing
Review: This was an excellent book. It suprised me that is was Karin Slaughter's first novel. It was well written and entertaining. The characters are likable and believable. This was a quick read with plenty of page turning suspense. Some reviewers has commented on the graphic scenes in this book, do not let that stop you from reading this book. It is about a serial killer/rapist. That entire subject is not pleasant - but it does not take away from this story's plot - as a matter of fact - I felt true compassion and sympathy for these characters which I think is a compliment to the author. I can't wait to read Karin Slaughter's next book.

Summary: Strong Police Novel with accurate Forensic details
Review: Slaughter's debut novel holds nothing back as she gives us minute details on how a victim was murdered in the first couple chapters. When the second murder takes place, you know you are in for one hell of a ride to solve this serial murder. Sara Linton is the town's pediatrician and moonlights as the coroner. She is
appalled by the gruesome nature of the murder and deeply sadden when it is friend she must autopsy. To further complicate matter he ex husband is the police chief and they must work together to solve this crime. Since this is a small town with a close knit community having a murder puts everyone on edge. Considering that Sara finds the first victims minutes after the attack and is unable to save her makes her feel guilty. As she is questioning her career decisions, her past will come back to haunt her. Her ex-husband must deal with his meddling mother who assists in the
raising of his child and keep the town from erupting into chaos. Slaughter brings all to the table with this book and for a brief time loses focus of the case. She does bring it all back together at the end. Good effort for a first author and I am anxious to read the sequel

Summary: Exceptionally unpleasant.
Review: Based on the rave reviews garnered by author Slaughter, I bought her books and started with her first, Blindsighted. This is the most gruesomely graphic book I have ever read--without exception. While the author gets points for having definite writing skill, this reads as if she sat down and racked her brain to come up with the most horrific rape scenario possible, then added to that scenario with medical details (and later, actual scenes of an assault as it's ocurring that reads like the print version of a snuff film). She succeeded. Rarely have I had such difficulty getting through any piece of writing--primarily because of the meticulously detailed descriptions of one sickening attack after another.

While Slaughter is, without question, a talented writer, there's nothing new here. The killer is so obvious from very early on that one reads simply to see what other horrors will get dragged in to embellish this tale of an imperiled pediatrician (who is also coroner of her small town), her ex-husband cop, and a completely unbelievable villain. The only well-conceived character is angry detective Lena, twin of the blind murder victim, Sybil, who is the focus of the opening scenes.

I was actually discussing my difficulties with this book over lunch with an English teacher friend who exclaimed that she'd also been so sickened by the book that she couldn't think of a single person to whom she comfortably pass along Blindsighted and so she threw it away. Neither my friend nor I are in the least prudish and both of us read anything and everything. This book is notable primarily for its horrifically graphic description of women violated in unspeakable ways. While in reality these things happen, they don't necessarily make for a compelling novel.
Not recommended.

Summary: A hard book to put down!!!
Review: I just want to say I think Karin Slaughter did a great job on her first book!!! I had a hard time putting it down. I am really looking forward to "Kisscut".

Summary: Terror Builds
Review: This was a very good book. I had read some reviews that left me wondering if this author was that good or that bad but after starting this book I couldn't put it down. I loved the way she gets you drawn in to the story. She is a "Cornwell", "Harris" combined writer but by no means taking bits of a storyline from another writer. High praise for this terror ride of a book!

Summary: Reviting
Review: I stumbled across Karin Blindsight after being interested in James Patterson. I was very pleased to see that both authors seem to have the same writing approaches. I could not put Blindsighted down for a minute! The characters were very well described. The next page was even better than the page before! I am going to read her next novel, Kisscut and am sure that this will be just as good as the first one. I suggest Blindsighted for any reader who is looking for a wonderfully written mystery-thriller. It was great!

Summary: grabbed me the first few pages
Review: I haven't had time to read in years, picked this book up by description of back cover. It got me right away. Made me enjoy reading again...just purchased Slaughter's 2nd book Kisscut, tonight, can't wait to read her again, I hope she keeps writing!

Summary: Slaughtering Thomas Harris
Review: Never was an author more aptly named. This debut crime/horror novel is the best of its type since The Silence of the Lambs, and gives Thomas Harris a run for his money.

Police officer Lena Adams' twin sister is brutally murdered in the local small-town diner restroom - in the middle of the day - where coroner Sara Linton finds her, mere minutes after the assailant has fled. The killing is more than usually vicious and perverse, and Sara's ex-husband, police chief Jeff Tolliver, is certain he's up against a serial killer who will strike again. Sure enough, the body of a recently missing college coed turns up within the week, ravaged abominably. Is the killer an out-of-towner? A first-timer, or someone gaining experience? Given the resemblance of the second victim to Lena's sister, is he a typical serial predator - or was he after Lena in the first place, simply hitting the wrong target? And what, exactly, is the secret Sara Linton has been living with for twelve years, that just may answer all of those questions?

This is a three-A.M., gritty, grisly, clammy-palmed read, not for the faint of heart or queasy of stomach. Only Thomas Harris or David Lindsey have hitherto written this kind of story this well, and Slaughter promises to match them with this first in her coming series of Sara Linton thrillers. I can't wait for the next.
