Summary: Time-travelling cops
Review: I started reading his Badge of Honor series very late in the game and finally did get them all. This is generally very well written and enjoyable for a quick read. Much like eating a dessert, it tastes great but won't fill you up. If you read the early books in this series you can tell that he started this in the late Sixties or early Seventies and it sat in a desk drawer until he became more famous. My main complaint is that in all of his series you have "Scions" of wealthy families doing something their peers never would. Be it a Marine, Army Officer or Policeman. Is there any real difference between Matthew Payne of Badge of Honor, Pick Pickering or his Father Fleming Pickering of the The Corp and Lowell Craig of The Brotherhood of War??? He really needs a new series or try to write some self contianed novels where nobody is a Scion, whose family owns most of Battery Park, the most successful law firm in Philadelphia or a shipping fleet and airline. For those who have read all of the series you know which is which.

Summary: More of the same from Mr. Griffin

Summary: EDITOR WANTED-PLEASE!
Review: IT IS OBVIOUS THAT NO ONE WHO EVER READ A PREVIOUS BADGE OF HONOR SERIES NOVEL HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH EDITING THIS ONE.
NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, I WONDER IF ANYONE LITERATE EVER READ THIS BEFORE PRINTING. THE MISTAKES IN CONTEXT, SPELLING, ETC.,ETC. DEFY DESCRIPTION.
WHAT HAPPENS ON THESE SERIES NOVELS? DOES THE AUTHOR SEND IN A VERY SHORT OUTLINE, AND THEN THOSE FAMOUS MONKEYS WRITE THE BOOK?
I HAVE ENJOYED THIS AUTHOR'S WORK IN THE PAST, BUT THIS ONE IS JUST TOO CHEEZY!

Summary: Suggestion From the AUTHOR
Review: The author W.E.B. Griffin was signing books here and said that when he saw the paperback for this latest Badge Series he was floored. He states that it will be pulled and be reissued and be a collectors item because the Badge on the front is a NY City Badge and not a Philly Badge as all the other badges are on all the Hardbacks and all the other paperbacks. It is only this paperback that is different. I would get it.

Summary: Not a bad read, but inconsistent with past Badge of Honor
Review: The book, though a little inconsistent in parts, is still a good read for fans of the Badge of Honor series. The timeframe is supposed to take place 6 months in the future after the end of The Investigators. It probably would have made more sense to be 2 to 3, or even 5 years after. Car radios have been replaced with cell phones; Jason Washington is a Lieutenant in Homicide and on the Captain's list (he was a SGT in Special Operations at the end of The Investigators), Chief Inspector Coughlin is now a Deputy Commissioner, and Staff Inspector Mike Weisbach of the newly created Ethical Affairs Unit designed to replace Internal Affairs, is now in charge of Internal Affairs, a separate entity from Special Operations. Of course, there is also the new Mayor, DA, and Police Commissioner, with no explanation of their demise after only 6 months. Matt Payne is true to form with the ladies, either having two or three on the string or getting them shot (we think; it is unclear whether "Terry" survives the ordeal). I liked the fact that there was more of a hint to a relationship for Peter and Amy. However, I was a little disappointed with the last 60 pages. It was as if the author was tired of writing the book and was looking for a quick ending and really didn't leave room for an additional sequel which would have been nice. It was, overall, a fast-paced and enjoyable read for 3/4th of the book.

Summary: Really good Police story
Review: This is volume 8 of "The Badge of Honor" series, my introduction to the characters and a great beginning for me to another genre of murder-mystery books. Mr Griffin is meticulous in his descriptions of police methods and proceedures which I found to be fascinating as it gives another dimension to police work in general. The hero, Sergeant Matt Payne, the university educated scion of a wealthy Philadelphia family, is promoted to the Homicide division where, despite his youth and relative inexperience, he proves to be a first class cop and is obviously on his way to becoming a public hero. The ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger as our hero and his friend, Pulitzer prize winning journalist Mickey O'Hara, see to the extradition of a well known and long sought crook from Paris, back to Philadelphia. I hope that it isn't too long before the new book appears.

Summary: A good read
Review: This was the 1st book in this series I read. It got me hooked so I went back and read the rest of the series. I got so wrapped up in the chracters that I couldnt put it down. The end seemed cut off though and I hope he writes another to finish the story.
