Summary: A must read!
Review: Anyone with any concern about the erosion of civil liberties in the United States should read this book. Unintended Consequences isn't just for members of the gun culture, but anyone worried about our future. After all, the Second Amendment protects the rest of the Bill of Rights

Summary: UC's reference value makes up for any lack of literary value
Review: Reading UC felt like coming home - but it certainly might not for everyone - thus the 9. UC is very episodic - might convert well to made-for-TV movie format - except that it's aimed squarely at grown-ups. Mr Ross has combined a history of government oppression of citizens with fiction describing a possible result of that oppression. The historical part delighted me especially, since I had encountered virtually all of the modern incidents when they were news, and having them all in one place is very convenient. (I see no reason for a non-fiction sequel.) The fictional part is a real bung-starter; despite the 862 pages (apparently I got one of the early, typo-ridden copies, from Loompanics), I read the entire book in 4 sittings, one covering most of one Sunday. While I COULD put it down, I didn't WANT to (I had to, too tired). UC is not going to garner a lot of fans from those who hold contrary opinions, but I expect it to become an intellectual rallying-point. Many thanks, Mr Ross and Accurate Press

Summary: Couldn't put it down
Review: Fabulous, I've bought several additional copies to give to friends to read. It's an interesting protrayal of what might happen in the future.

Summary: NO TYPOS IN CURRENT PRINTING
Review: The typos referred to by the reviewer below are only in the rare first printing, which sold out over a year ago and is now bringing $80-$100 on the collector market. Second and third printings have these glitches corrected

Summary: UC Is Rude ... the Way A Good, Honest Friend is.
Review: Though the book is riddled with typos and the POV is unnaturally skewed towards gun fanatics (thus rendering it rather unpallatable for mainstream reading), the facts and suppositions presented on the machinations of the current version of the US government makes Tom Clancy's works so far appear as if he's in a coma! This book must be read by everyone who hopes to have a stake in the future of this Consitutional land. It really is not that entertaining as a novel, but it packs a wallop in the legal machinations department that current government and police agencies are involved with. If this book was written with more emphasis on people and [a lot] less on the technical gun jargonese, it would be a better novel. Therefore, since it sits on the soapbox too much of the time, it only rates an 8 out of a 10 for me. But that in no way means that the truths presented in the book have been muddied! Good work, John!

Summary: Great fictional presentation of factual and future events
Review: Ross has combined actual past events with a likely future to create a fearsome tale of oppressive and dictatorial government forces. Most of the controls and restrictive regulations he presupposes are already in place and frequently exercised in the name of "for the public good." Freedom is not free, and this book graphically describes the "unintended consequences" that spring from repressive actions by our government agencies and officials. Great read! I couldn't put it down

Summary: A fantastic read! A must have! Worth every penny!
Review: A eye opening trip through the real past, to a very scarey and possible future. 800+ pages that I couldn't put down. Issues that face all citizens know, and will affect your childrens's children tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and buy this book! You will not be sorry

Summary: Don't miss it. You will wish the novel was longer!!
Review: Mr. Ross wrote an excellent novel. If you are a bit concernedabout tiranny in the federal government, read it, for you will realizethat tiranny is already here.
Even thought the book will become a bible for those in the gun culture, I wish people like Sarah Brady would read it too. If events and science don't inspire her and the anti-gun community, maybe a good fiction based on events and science will.

Summary: Love it, or hate it, it won't leave you unmoved.
Review: The man has done the improbable, if not the impossible. He'swritten a book of incredible political importance, and at the sametime, made it so entertaining that it is going to be widely read! It will be interesting to see just how popular this book must become, before it's "discovered" by the reviewers who write for the mainstream media.

Summary: Unintended Consequences achieves intended consequences!
Review:

This is a massive and impressive novel.

Anyone concernedabout individual liberties and/or interested in firearms will find itan excellent read.

Though the novel is very long Mr. Ross skillfully uses a chronological format which breaks up the action into many short sections which keep the novel moving at a fast pace.

The novel stays focussed on it's theme without intrusions of any racial or religious opinions.

The amount of accurate detail is incredible and I, like many other reviewers, certainly hope Mr. Ross covers this same material in a non-fiction book.

In my opinion ... and maybe I lead a rather sheltered life ... the sex scenes are trite and unbelieveable, but they are few and far between and not particularly distracting.

If the intendended consequences of Unintended Consequences are to make people consider the political directions in which the USA is heading at an ever accelerating rate, then the novel succeeds completely.
