Rating: Summary: not exactly 'fiction' Review: A well researched book ... while it has a fiction theme its facts are startling revelations of the hsitory of the elimination of the first 8 Articles in the Bill of Rights. I did not believe some of thwat the author was telling me until I went out and looked into the records. Once you read this you may well have the urge to pick up the phone and let your elected officals know that you want ALL of the Articles of the Bill of Right FULLY restored!
Rating: Summary: Required reading for ALL Americans Review: I read, enjoyed and at times was frightened by this book, then after 10 days I read it again. The charictor building is thorough, you get to know each one like a neighbor or family member. Mr. Ross's reasurch is impeciable. Todays issues and government excesses/abuses are brought forth in a way that grabs your mind and thoughts and will not let go. A welcome change from the toung-in-cheek aproach that too few take seriously or the dry listing of facts that leave far too many attention/thought deprived Americans hollow eyed.
Rating: Summary: Nearly perfect Review: Just at times I was put off by the more gratuitous aspects of the book-I suppose those story elements that insert various depravities were important to the author or he felt they were neccessary for making the book "sizzle". I believe the plot and the research stand on their own. I do recommend this novel to any adult reader. I do so believing that the reader will come away from his experience with a new opinion about the second amendment, individual responsibility and the unending assault on freedom that must have moved this author to pen such a passionate (if over-long) book. I have recently added a similar treatise on freedom to my library-just as thought provoking and entertaining but less, much less to slog through. "Transfer" by Jerry Furland is a gem of a novel that will snap your notions about where we are headed as a nation like a dried twig.
Rating: Summary: Unintended; I don't know Review: Ross and Mullin have put together a very important work here. Not just for the NRA or others, but for all of us. This book, as I read it, is about the greed for power, and the consequences there of. Unfortunately, we the people, are holding the low card. I still urge you to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Unintended Consequences Review: One of the best researched novels I have ever read. The scenarios are too real, the information to clear, the message is plain. We need to wake up if we wish to remain a free society. I commend the Author for being brave enough to use his real name, the Government is going to be very unhappy with the light he shines on their rape of our Constitution and Civil Rights. Read this book, tell your friends to read this book, tell your neighbors. It is not just for the " Shooting Population" it is for anyone who loves being free!
Rating: Summary: A Long overdue exposition of government atrocities Review: A wake-up call to all who value freedom and our original Constitutional Republic; this fine book exposing our "DEMON-acrazy" for what it truly is! Must reading for all good Americans; not only to be read but to be shared as widely as possible. Strongly indicating once again that sorely needed is a modest flat tax on sales replacing the infamous current Income Tax and the abolishment of the rogue IRS with its agents not allowed to hold government jobs but put to work either in a cotton or soybean field down here or a chain gang; also drastic budget cuts for the ATF, FBI, DEA, etc. with similar prohibitions of any government employment at any level for discharged/"downsized" personnel . . and all judgements against any government entity to be paid out of funds only from that department's budget! with those involved discharged and careful consideration given to their being placed in chain gangs or, at the least, employed as field hands in the cotton and soy bean fields down here!
Rating: Summary: Good book Entertaining but Frightening Review: I liked the book. Definately too long but I also understand why it is. There is so much history that goes into the telling of this story. The terrible things foretold in this book could one day come true. Our govt is currently not a servant of the people as intended. It is however reaching into the lives of every citizen in this country and many times with negative results. I see this book as bringing all these intrusions to the attention of the public. Not just intrusions into gun ownership but also into business and all areas of private life. The govt has no business in many of these areas.
Rating: Summary: Book is VERY good Review: This book is a trip back in time, through the eyes of our fathers and grandfathers from the middle of the century through present time. These are the clean cut, law abiding guys who fought our wars and supported our families; guys who gradually had the right to own firearms whittled away. The story builds to a sublime and wonderful surprise ending you will enjoy. Get this book. Give it to a friend. I wouldn't call this book controversial, however I would call it one of the most important books of the 20th century. This book should not be missed.
Rating: Summary: Point Well Taken, But Wretched Excess Abounds Review: Like most of those below who've read "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross, I am a diehard supporter of the Bill of Rights and especially the Second Amendment. However, simply because I share a common ideology with the author does not a classic make, and I think that many readers have overlooked UC's shortcomings because they agree with Ross' message. UC is really several books combined into a single volume: a history of firearms regulation told through fictionalized first-person accounts, an escapist adventure story, and a technical manual for gunnies. The author succeeds best with historical fiction; the account of the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto is unforgettable. I also enjoyed the telling of events surrounding the 1938 Miller vs. U.S. Supreme Court decision, as this case is frequently cited by both sides in the gun control debate. Clearly, most of them have never bothered to examine the facts or holding of this case, which may explain why the decision is interpreted to support the claims of both factions. UC also does well as escapist entertainment in the Tom Clancy tradition; the author has created a scenario in which he is able to effectively put on display his knowledge of history, politics and Midwestern life, and he does tell a good story. Be forewarned that this story includes gratuitous violence, abuse of corpses, occasional misogyny and sex of numerous varieties including lesbianism, blowjobs, heterosexual rape and homosexual rape, so look elsewhere if you find this stuff offensive. The abundant technical information, including such exotica as Solothurns and advanced sniper tactics, is interesting but goes well beyond what is necessary. Yes, Mr. Ross REALLY likes guns and REALLY knows A LOT about guns, but such material is better suited to 'Gun Digest' or Maj. John Plaster's 'The Ultimate Sniper', which I highly recommend for those interested in long-range shooting. Overall, good book with extremely valuable information, but sorely in need of an editor and a proofreader, and certainly not in the league of Atlas Shrugged.
Rating: Summary: This is the book that the statists don't want you to read. Review: So if you own a gun (or want to), get off your duff and get your copy NOW. Why is it that the major outlets won't carry this book? Hats off to Amazon for having the gumption to carry this book. If you value the Second Amendment, this book is a must. It's also the first major piece of fiction that was written for us gun enthusiasts. It's an American classic, despite all the criticisms which have been written about the book's literary style, sexual content, graphic violence, etc. It is a riveting book, and you will not read it and be left unmoved. Every American should read this book, especially those who aspire to public office. If you're just in the mood for something different to read, give this one a shot... it's entertaining AND educating.
